Thread deletions

Yogsgirl · 16/09/2021 17:00

AIBU to think that there are more and more thread deletions these days.

Looking down my 'threads I'm on list' there are quite a few zapped threads, some which are deleted for obvious reasons, but some seemed quite innocuous at the time, like the thread about comments from teen girls on a group chat, one about someone being unhappy with their primary school etc. What on earth can have gone so wrong on these threads they need deleting?

OP posts:
sst1234 · 16/09/2021 17:29

Cancel culture at play. Some threads just get deleted because some people are offended that other have opinions

RevolvingPivot · 16/09/2021 17:31

What happened to the one who wanted to
Keep her son off school for her husbands birthday?

Geamhradh · 16/09/2021 17:35

I've got 4 deleted ones today.

pbp - that was MIL buying grandson toys

OP advocating vigilante groups and then story being linked to in press

Having a look behind the scenes (troll)

GF starting a bunfight about how people on here pick on her.

Chocolatebuttercream · 16/09/2021 17:36

It annoys me when they say they've taken it down 'whilst we look behind the scenes' but they never reinstate the thread or tell you what happened. Guess I am nosy, but sometimes you feel like you've invested in the thread, given your opinion or offered support and then it's just gone.

They do get reinstated. I’ve seen a few recently.

I get annoyed with the “op has real life concerns” when it’s obvious they just didn’t like the replies.

Kinneddar · 16/09/2021 17:38

The deletions that annoy me are 'The OP has privacy concerns' in other words people disagreed with them & the thread didn't go as they planned

PatchworkElmer · 16/09/2021 17:40

@PurpleDaisies agreed- ‘the OP didn’t like the answers they got and asked us to the delete the thread’

Hekatestorch · 16/09/2021 17:44

Lately all mine say 'OP has had second thoughts' followed up with 'and since it's not been up long we thought we would take it down' or 'we don't feel it's really helping anyone' or some other weird MN reason they have taken it down.

So either they have changed the rules and do take down whenever op asks for it or their weird reasons are to justify it.

I think they just take down anything for any reason at the moment.

girlmom21 · 16/09/2021 17:48

Do you mean the step mom who wanted to keep the step son off for her own birthday? That's still there.

If there's another I'd assume it's a rip off of that one

LittleBearPad · 16/09/2021 17:49

I think they seem much more ready to do than they used to be.

ItWearsTheBatteriesOut · 16/09/2021 17:49

I've been on a few lately where is is because the OP gets their arse handed to them but refuses to believe they ABU.

Cheeseandlobster · 16/09/2021 17:51

The one just now where the op said it isn't normal to dislike your siblings

PegasusReturns · 16/09/2021 17:51

When MN state that they have a few concerns and are making some enquiries do they ever decide they don’t and reinstate the thread.

BarefootHippieChick · 16/09/2021 17:55

Any bets on how long before mumsnet delete this? 😉

ThinWomansBrain · 16/09/2021 17:57

I thought that there'd been fewer recently.
I did report one (two) a few weeks back that got removed. The poster had two posts going at the same time, and seemed seriously mentally unwell.

mummyh2016 · 16/09/2021 18:02

Don't start me, I posted on here before about it and admin couldn't care less. It goes totally against the spirit of the site.

Holskey · 16/09/2021 18:07

@purpledaisies

Yes! And usually so transparent. There was one recently where most people agreed OP was reasonable to be upset. She then created a follow-up thread (high from the success of the first, no doubt) and most people told her she was now over-reacting. Thread deleted because of real-life concerns (that apparently weren't concerning at all during the first thread).

Hawkins001 · 16/09/2021 18:10

Very good points

Sundaymorningfiveninteen · 16/09/2021 18:10

I don’t normally get invested but I was really looking forward to an update on the thread about the office joker sending a make visitor into the female showers. It disappeared . I was a bit miffed .

Sundaymorningfiveninteen · 16/09/2021 18:11

Male ! Not make.

DrSbaitso · 16/09/2021 18:11

We're not owed content though. If a poster wants to take a thread down, why should they not be able to?

SheldonesqueTheLazyEyedBstard · 16/09/2021 18:13

I don’t buy the privacy things 99% of the time.

If they don’t like the answers and get pissy when folk pull them up on any resultant snippiness from them, then the thread should stand.

But should the moderators feel it really should go, then “hurty feelies” is far more honest. And then we all know it is nowt but a flounce.

Sparklingbrook · 16/09/2021 18:14

I don't really mind if threads get deleted, I don't really get invested in that way. The ones that do get deleted it never really comes as a surprise, MNHQ has made a decision to remove it and it's their site.
I've never started a thread asking where a thread went, the deletion message is there.

RevolvingPivot · 16/09/2021 18:16

@girlmom21 Hi no wasn't that one

RevolvingPivot · 16/09/2021 18:19

@DrSbaitso

You can't. I've asked for a post to be deleted because I was told I was making it up. MN just said they would hide it from active threads but couldn't delete it.
