Whatever happened to…

Inspired by another thread!

Whatever happened to certain celebs? So many were really quite popular/successful/infamous/famous at one point only to seemingly disappear off the
face off the earth. Where did they go?

Insert the missing celeb. I’ll go first with a few:-

  • Sam Smith (sang Black and Gold- love that song)
  • Samantha Mumba (Irish singer)
  • Shola Ama (You Might Meet Somebody singer)

Melinda Messenger has trained as a psychotherapist!

I learnt only very recently that Carol Smillie is now a humanist wedding celebrant!

As for the other Brookside actors, Sue Johnston still pops up from time to time in series that tend to be very well-written, so maybe she has the money to be choosey as to what she accepts. Doesn't Ricky Tomlinson still do the voiceovers for the oven chips adverts? He's 81 now, though, so probably wants to live a little less fast-paced now. Unless I was mistaken, Louis Emerick (who played Mick Johnson) had a very minor part in Holly Walsh's fantastic sitcom The Other One - I think he turned up to buy a bike that one of the characters had sold him on eBay!

Actually you’ve reminded me both Mick and the actress who played his wife have been in Casualty. She played a nurse called Tess and he was her husband in that too.

Does anyone remember a young Robert Carlyle in a series called Looking out for JoJo? He was a heroin dealer then an addict and installed a marble bath in his high rise flat and had a girlfriend that wanted to be Marilyn Monroe ? I’m sure I’ve not dreamed that !
And Robbie Coltrane comedy series about a Rockabilly band Tutti Frutti

I remember it! Watched the filming some of the scenes in Edinburgh.

You can buy dvd of Tutti Frutti , it has a great Scottish cast, and Emma Thompson was good in it as Suzi Kettles , before she became smug. The woman who played Miss Toner was great, Katy Murphy , she is a drama teacher now

Doesn’t Ireland have a South then? How do you describe the location of Cork?

What ever became of Nik Kershaw?

On the subject of Robert Carlyle do you remember the film where he has MS, watched it once decades ago and I weeped buckets at that. Google tells me it's this one

There was a sensitively- done documentary very recently about Tony Slattery. Struggling with depression and alcoholism. Has a nice supportive partner but they are clearly short of money.

Simon and Miquita used to be great on T4 together- a fab double act!

I actually hated Simon Amstell after he ripped into the lovely Nelly Furtado in a T4 interview. She was so lovely and did nothing to deserve his nastiness.

Good riddance to him.
