WHY DO WOMENS CLOTHES HAVE FAKE STITCHED UP POCKETS?

If you're going to put a pocket in clothes, why stitch it up again?

Is it just me who's always pulling them apart to get into the pocket that is actually there but has just been stitched back up?

WHY.

It is annoying , but maybe it is give the purchaser a choice if they want the pockets or not ? Or just easier to transport the clothes because it's a bit neater or something? Or to stop people putting things in the pockets?

Echobelly · 14/09/2021 15:24

Why do young girls only get offered flimsy, open school shoes that are totally impractical for, say, walking to school in rain or cold? Are they expected to be carried everywhere in a sedan chair or something?

Shirleyphallus · 14/09/2021 15:28

Stitched pockets are to keep the item’s shape when it’s tried on. They’re meant to be cut out when you’ve bought it.

Now the bigger question is why do so many items of women’s clothing not have any pockets at all?!

ChirpyChirp · 14/09/2021 15:31

WHY does my colleague ask me a question and then, just as I go to answer, INTERRUPT WITH A RANDOM GUESS AT WHAT I AM GOING TO SAY??

Her: Where does this key live?
Me: In...
Her: In the tin?
Me: No, in the...
Her: In the filing cabinet?
Me: In the...
Her: In the drawer?

Aaarrrggghhhhh

JaceLancs · 14/09/2021 15:33

Most men’s suits and coats also have stitched up pockets - it’s to keep them neat whilst they are being tried on
I do agree with Women’s clothes not having pockets often enough
DP complains that men’s shirt pockets aren’t big enough for his phone and prefers 2 pocket shirts so that’s as much of a challenge too

When someone drives at 40mph in a 60mph zone, where it’s perfectly safe to go 60mph, then continues at 40mph when they go through a 30mph. Gives me the utter rage

Andante57 · 14/09/2021 15:38

New pencils which are unsharpened.
Why do some pencil manufacturers do this?

No. It's when they do 35-40 round the perfectly safe but slightly bendy bits (I'm not talking hairpin bends, just meandering curves) then speed up on the straights so you don't get a chance to overtake them!

When the packets tell you to remove the film lid and it neatly just tears around the edge leaving the whole thing still uncovered but now I need to stab and rip it to actually remove it.

the80sweregreat · 14/09/2021 15:41

The teabags are joined together sometimes.
I hate the nano second it takes me to unfasten them. Sometimes one then breaks everywhere.. the rage is real.

HarrietsChariot · 14/09/2021 15:43

Cans of vegetables, fruit etc that don't have a ring pull. It's not 1995, put a damned ring pull at one end and leave the other end for people who prefer to create a dangerous, razor-sharp metal edge.

Even worse is when they then speed up as you go to overtake (because they don't want to go faster than 40mph on a perfectly well lit, dry and straight road, but they don't want you to either). Those people be put in pillories at the roadside as a warning to others.

Shirleyphallus · 14/09/2021 15:46

Hmmm. I’m gonna argue against this. I live in an area which has lots of these meandering curves / 60mph roads and I’m really comfortable driving on them because I know them.

However a few weeks ago we got a new car (which is a bit bigger than the old one) and I was in a new area with more meandering curves, except some of them were steeper than I thought plus with not being used to the space / handling of the car I was taking it easier and was not comfortable taking the bends faster than 35/40. I get it’s frustrating for people behind you but I’m not gonna drive faster than I’m comfortable with just to let other people get there a few minutes faster. I would also speed up on the straights just to demonstrate that I can actually drive faster than 40!

WHY.

Pockets are sometimes sewn up on suit jackets for example to help keep the shape. The stitching is just a basting stitch so easily removed.
littletinyboxes · 14/09/2021 15:48

Why does my DS senior school insist that all pupils wear school jumpers on the way to/from school and walking between class rooms regardless of the weather. Are teenage boys not sweaty enough?

MiddleClassProblem · 14/09/2021 15:48

But OP is referring to fake stitched up pockets, not the ones you unpick but the ones that look like a pocket but go nowhere. I have plenty on things like that as does DD.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/09/2021 15:49

Why did DD leave her lunchbox at school?

SirenSays · 14/09/2021 15:49

Haha I read the title and my fist thought was No Pockets!

Wheelerdeeler · 14/09/2021 15:53

Why are there pockets in baby clothes???? Used to wrecked my head when ironing

This one really winds me up. Driving dangerously on both counts!
Gliblet · 14/09/2021 15:58

Yep, lack of pockets is maddening.

Also those 'oooOOOooo' adverts. Irritating gormless bastards.

And people who bag up dog poo and then leave it hanging in a tree or hedge.

Oh, and those ridiculous strappy/stringy tit-harnesses tacked on to bras.

Gah! THIS! I ordered a bra the other day and when it turned up it had this tiny, poxy little sparkly dangly thing (that wasn't even on the bra shown in the photos on the website I ordered it from), as well as a stupid bow hanging off the middle of it. It was this tiny little metal something that will undoubtedly come off in the washing machine and contribute to the eventual cocking-up of the appliance. Thanks, manufacturer.

I tried to cut the sparkly metal dangly thing off, but it's stitched in like buggery.

because if they are sold loose or in flimsy packaging, they are less likely to break in transit.

well no because they said "if you are going to put a pocket in" when its a fake pocket, no pocket is put in.
Sexnotgender · 14/09/2021 16:06

The little loops of ribbon inside T-shirts, or if you buy from seasalt one bit of ribbon that goes across the neck.

What. The. Fuck. Is. It. For?
