Just that really!

Found money on the street earlier. Not enough to bother the police with but felt odd picking it up and keeping it.

We donated it to a local food bank.

Good idea. Plenty out there in need these days.

Annoyedanddissapointed · 09/09/2021 17:53

I would exchange it with local bar in need for some liquid vitamins with hop foavouring. They suffered a lot lately

Hoppinggreen · 09/09/2021 17:54

How do you find an owner of a tenner from a street on FB?

You’d do that for £6?! Really??
Whatwillbetheendofus · 09/09/2021 17:55

Less than £10 keep. Any more donate to the local charity, unless a large amount with which is go to the police

toolazytothinkofausername · 09/09/2021 17:57

Less than £10 = Lottery scratch card.
A £10 note = Save it for charity shop purchases.

More than £10= I ignore it. Not my problem.

Over £10 take to police station. Less than £10 donate.

PumpkinKlNG · 09/09/2021 18:02

I would keep it if found on the street. A couple of days ago I was using the cash machine and a woman in front of me walked off leaving her money in the machine, I called her back and told her, but if it was just lying around on the ground then I’m afraid yes I would keep it!

takehomepay · 09/09/2021 18:02

If it’s on a street, I just pick it up and keep it if no one is about. I regularly donate to charity including via direct debit, so I’m not going to stress over pocketing a fiver or so.

However, if someone forgets cash back at the self-service till, I hand it in at customer service and if someone has dropped cash at work or in a shop, I hand it in.

I’ve forgotten cash back at tills and people have handed it in and also a few tenners fell out of my pocket at work and someone handed it on to reception. People can be so lovely!

PumpkinKlNG · 09/09/2021 18:03

No way would all these people take it to the police station? You would take £20 to the police station? Find that hard to believe 😂

Annoyedanddissapointed · 09/09/2021 18:03

Can I just ask what do people think would police do with a random tenner from X street??

DynamoKev · 09/09/2021 18:04

Where do you lot find all this unattended cash? I've never found any.

Stompythedinosaur · 09/09/2021 18:04

I would hand in to the police if over a fiver, donate to charity if less. I have vivid memories of being hard up enough that loosing a tenner would mean missing meals.

Aprilx · 09/09/2021 18:05

If it were a single note, I would look around and if nobody is looking for a dropped note I would keep it. If I found bundles then I would hand it in.

Aprilx · 09/09/2021 18:06
  • but I have never found any money.

They hold it in case someone reports it missing. If no one does you get it back.

I have only found money once - it was £20 and I did hand it in.

I once found a fiver. Old style still.

Last cash i found was a rusty penny which successfully took me through an interview on that day😱

PumpkinKlNG · 09/09/2021 18:08

I didn’t know anyone called the police station when they lost money tbh, it wouldn’t have occurred to me to do that. I once left my shopping on the bus and called the bus company and even that wasn’t handed in so I don’t expect money would

MyMabel · 09/09/2021 18:09

My brother once found a substantial amount of money rolled up on a walk. He gave it into the police station and never heard anything after that of whether it even found it’s way back the owner.

It was just lying on the pavement. No one nearby.

I’ve shouted people back to cash machines before and handed cards into banks that were on machines.

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 09/09/2021 18:10

In the days when there were police stations you were allowed into I would have handed it in. That's no longer an option in most of the UK.

Now, if I found it in or just outside a shop I'd hand it to the manager/supervisor. Otherwise I guess I'd give it to charity.

BeyondMyWits · 09/09/2021 18:10

Only ever find small change at the bus stop outside work... and that is diminishing with tickets by phone. I take it in to work and pop it in the charity box by the till.
