Just that really!

Found money on the street earlier. Not enough to bother the police with but felt odd picking it up and keeping it.

We donated it to a local food bank.

@MyMabel

My brother once found a substantial amount of money rolled up on a walk. He gave it into the police station and never heard anything after that of whether it even found it’s way back the owner.
I found a wallet with £60 cash and literally nothing else. When handing to police I gave my details and they said call back in two weeks and if it isn’t claimed I could have it.. and I did :-)

Put it in the collection at Mass, or donate to a charity.

Well i don't think I have found money before.

If I found a purse/wallet I would give to the police

@BananaMilkshakeWithCream I would be really intrigued to know what is the lowest value coin (or note) people would bother to pick up off the ground. For me - £1 these days, and probably 50p pre-COVID.

I’d probably pick £1 coin up. Depends how much of a hurry I was in.

If it found it in a business then I would hand it in.

It it was outside and there was ID with it then I would reunite with the person if I could or hand it into a bank etc.

If there was no way of identifying it then I would probably keep it.

I found a grand total of 60p the other day just sitting outside my house in the road near where we park. It was probably my husband or children who dropped it… but if you see a Penny and pick it up and it brings good luck, then I was hoping 60p might bring a lot of luck Grin

Not too fussed about Covid. I’ve been double jabbed and if I haven’t caught it by now, then I’m going to catch it sometime I figure.

I once found a £20 note in a busy train station, with no one nearby obviously looking for anything. Tried to hand it in, to Lost Property and the man working there laughed and said it wouldn't last there long, so I should keep it. Definitely would have felt wrong to me to keep it so I gave it to a local homeless charity.

@Breastfeedingworries

Weirdly reminds me of my time at school where it was seen as uncool to pick up money off the floor if the value was less than 5p and in general, the coolest kids wouldn’t pick up £1, it was a sort of it social rule. Some of the kids did go and collect the money in secret, add it all up buy fags and sell them for £1/2 pounds per one. It was very clever 😂 I was just miffed I’d see all this money and couldn’t pick it up! Wonder if teachers did haha.

I’ve found money in the street, odd fivers and tenners, around a city on Sunday off I’ve gone shopping. I’ve kept what I’ve found gift from the universe. (The years of having to leave money at school) Grin

My school was the same! I remember being in yr7 and were all waiting at a bus stop on our way to. A girl in the year above dropped some coins and my friend said "You've dropped 50p there" and see laughed at him and said "Na, that's alright, you can have it if you want."

Obviously none of us picked it up (social suicide suicide!). I remember looking at it still on the floor as we drove off.

If it was just loose money (a single note) I'd keep it. If it was in a wallet I'd hand it in.

I found 2 x £10 notes frozen into a puddle in a car park at a local national trust place. I chipped them out! Then took them to the office, they didn't accept them but took my number incase anyone came for them. They never did and 10 years and 2 house moves later they are still in my bedside drawer...! The old type notes, maybe it's time to cash them in?

That’s quite an effort! Not sure you can still cash old notes can you?

My son found a small purse with £100 in at a supermarket. No identifying I'd just the cash. He handed it in at customer services who asked for his name and mobile number. About a week later he got a phone call from supermarket asking if they could give his mobile number to lady who had lost her purse. He said yes and a lady rang him and thanked him. It turned out she was a single Mum with 2 young children and that was money she had put back for their Xmas gifts so why in a small purse on its own. She had not realised she lost it until following day then felt desparate, and rang around all the shops she had been to. She never thought she would get it back. Made my son feel good.

SolitaryTree · 12/09/2021 13:04

I’ve found money on 3 occasions….

One was in a pretty deserted car park. £30 on the floor. No-one around and I waited about for a bit but no-one came so we bought food for the food bank with it.

One was a £10 note literally just blowing down the street and almost stopped at my feet! I was broke at the time so kept it and used it for some food shopping.

The third one was a wallet. I had a look for any ID and found a photo ID so I tracked the man down on social media. I sent a message to him and he got back to me and met me at the local supermarket. So glad I found him as he was travelling to visit family the next day and said it would have been a nightmare to cancel and re-order all cards. He gave me £20 which I said no thank you to and really didn’t want it but he was very insistent so I used it to treat my DC to the cinema with some sweets.

I found £30 outside out local newsagent.

I know the staff well and asked them to keep its case someone came back for it.

A week later they told me they'd located the person by watching cctv outside the shop.

I'll never know if it's true or they took it (I doubt they did) but I couldn't keep it due to the amount.

However we didn't hand it to the kid who was friend with the kids outside the shop when I found it who came running up within minutes saying they'd lost £30 and had anyone found it. They had no idea if the denomination of notes and were so obviously lying HmmGrin
