When I was divorcing I am not proud but I did get drunk on a few occasions and dished out some "home truths" to various people.

I would say there was a spark of truth in what I was saying, but what was dispropotionate was the WAY I went about it. I completely overreacted, was horribly rude, said things in public that should have been one to one, and I'm astonished some people are still talking to me all these years later. Blush

If I have a drink now, even one I have a rule that whatever I feel compelled to text, post or email has to wait til the morning!

AryaStarkWolf · 08/09/2021 15:27

@idontlikealdi

Mostly yes. In vino veritas and all that. Why?
Nah, disagree with that, sometimes people do sometimes it's just a load shit talk
2catsandhappy · 08/09/2021 15:28

@Sillawithans how did that sit with you? Welcome or inapropiate? Are you free to say your feelings back or is there a dh/dp/ow/dw to consider?

museumum · 08/09/2021 15:29

Nope. Drunk people often say things to get a reaction. They don’t need to be true. Or to get their leg over. In fact being drunk just means they don’t think of the consequences- they could say any shit.

crystalspiders · 08/09/2021 15:30

Not in my case, I talk a load of bollocks

Ponoka7 · 08/09/2021 15:32

I don't and and on vodka I'd fight the world. Some people need to be drunk to talk about real feelings and others get over emotional. You have to go on the rest of his actions.

Member984815 · 08/09/2021 15:37

No , they do talk a lot of shit though

OhWhyNot · 08/09/2021 15:41

No

They often tell you what they are feeling at that point in time

JacquelineCarlyle · 08/09/2021 15:56

@JasonMomoasgirlfriend

I know I have definitely told the truth when drunk but I have also lied or said things I don't actually mean/believe when drunk.

So sometimes.. 🤷

This is me too! Blush
Halo1234 · 08/09/2021 16:02

No. I speak from experience. Drunk me gets upset over things sober me doesnt give a second thought. One vino too many I will love everyone (I dont) and talk rubbish about some deep and meaningful that I don't normally think about. Drunk people imo don't always tell the truth. Why?

Pixie921 · 08/09/2021 16:05

No, however I do believe someone's mental state is exposed when highly intoxicated.

Sparklesocks · 08/09/2021 16:07

Sometimes.
But sometimes people chat absolute bollocks that doesn’t represent how they feel at all.
There’s no hard and fast rule because everyone acts differently when they’ve had a few.

WeAllHaveWings · 08/09/2021 16:08

@Sillawithans

A man declared his feeling....going on everything I think he was telling the truth
I tell everyone I love them when drunk. When I'm really pissed I tell everyone the truth 🤣
Sparklesocks · 08/09/2021 16:09

Of course another point is that feeling uninhibited while drunk might mean that you’re more open and comfortable with speaking frankly than you might be normally.

DdraigGoch · 08/09/2021 16:10

@WhatsAppening

No. I say that as a seasoned drinker, and a pub manager.

Drunk people talk a load of old bollocks generally.

But truth and lies isn't exactly about fact and fiction. If you genuinely believe something, you think it to be true. So maybe they really believe that bollocks.
scarpa · 08/09/2021 16:32

I'm a terrible liar when I'm drunk - about random things. But I might be more likely to tell the truth about something specific that's been on my mind.

e.g. "I actually nearly made it to the Olympics team for X" - an actual lie I told a man in a bar once. Ridiculous

"I don't actually like your boyfriend" - a drunken truth I told a friend, when sober I'd have kept it to myself.

Depends on the situation! And everyone is different.

TubeOfSmarties · 08/09/2021 16:39

Alcohol isn't truth serum. But people are less guarded and less tactful when they are drinking it so it can lead to saying things they might not otherwise.

However it can also lead to saying a lot of overblown things reflecting how they feel in the moment, when drunk, but which don't quite reflect the truth of their usual feelings. Eg being overly lovey or overly angry about something.

MrsFlinch · 08/09/2021 17:10

Not always, but I do believe that some people with certain traits and true feelings are more likely to surface after consuming alcohol.
Ie if someone has a nasty undertone, is a bully, is two faced or is a compulsive liar then alcohol can enhance that.
But having said that it’s also easy to become bolshy and offend someone or say something that’s an outright lie, something you actually don’t mean or don’t even believe sober and you’ve absolutely no idea where that came from!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/09/2021 19:06

I do, in fact I tell both of you.

Sillawithans · 08/09/2021 21:31

@2catsandhappy I'd run away with him tomorrow.
I met him for a walk 2 days after.

My (early 30s) DP drunkenly told some people at a wedding we were at that he fought in the Vietnam War Grin

DeepaBeesKit · 08/09/2021 21:40

No. DH goes weirdly mellow and philosophical when drunk but talks utter shite Grin

Winter2019 · 08/09/2021 21:40

I'd say tipsy yes, drunk- talk shite

StardewMelons · 08/09/2021 21:48

No... Well personally I am far more likely to talk nonsense when I am drunk, especially if its about feelings... But the saying about it "all coming out when your drunk", is probably more likely if you have something you want to get off your chest when your sober, but don't have the balls Lol.

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 08/09/2021 21:48

Definitely depends on the individual and what they've been drinking. I'm an absolute compulsive liar when drunk. Like absolutely outrageous lies. I've no idea where it comes from. Its very embarrassing!
