I make up dreadful lies and stories. I'm a twat.

However, I will also come out with some corkers that are blunt and truthful. I'm still a twat.

I rephrase this "I am a twat if I'm drunk"

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/09/2021 14:42

No, there aren't any Pink Elephants in Bolton and no matter how many times they tell you that they have seen them, they are NOT telling the truth.

inmyslippers · 08/09/2021 14:44

Drunk words are sober thoughts

maddy68 · 08/09/2021 14:45

No. It depends. I've definitely said things I genuinely don't mean when drunk

oneglassandpuzzled · 08/09/2021 14:46

My SIL told my mother some things about me and my husband that weren't true when she was drunk. Embarrassing for us all. I think they were events she had constructed in her own mind that felt true to her but weren't objectively true.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 08/09/2021 14:47

They say what they really think.
Even if those thoughts are ones they will absolutely deny they ever have when sober and get very cross with you if you say those thoughts exist in them, in some dark little locked away corner.

BlackShadowCat · 08/09/2021 14:49

I agree, sometimes people tell the truth, sometimes they talk utter shite.

LaikO · 08/09/2021 14:50

As other posters have said, sometimes yes and sometimes no. Some people will just spout utter rubbish, it really depends.

Backwaterjunction · 08/09/2021 14:53

Lord no of course not

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/09/2021 14:54

There was a thread a while back where the OP got so drunk they told their friends they were closely related to a famous singer, someone else tried to convince their taxi driver they had produced Justin Timberlakes album. Apparently your brain gets so distracted with keeping you alive and safe it starts talking absolute bollocks.

Sillawithans · 08/09/2021 14:56

A man declared his feeling....going on everything I think he was telling the truth

FourteenSixteenTwentyTwo · 08/09/2021 14:57

Sometimes, but definitely not always. Have you ever asked someone drunk about something you know they've lied about? If anything, I think there's a tendency to double-down on a lie.

moynomore · 08/09/2021 14:57

I don't think they tell the truth any more than when sober. Just may talk more so there is more being told one way or another.

moynomore · 08/09/2021 14:59

I wouldn't put too much stock in declarations of love (or otherwise) of a drink person.

ABitOfAShitShow · 08/09/2021 15:00

Personally speaking, absolutely not. I chat shit. It’s all a big myth.

Imcatmum · 08/09/2021 15:02

No. When you're drunk you let go of reasonableness and think in a single minded way about things. That's not reality.

MorriseysGladioli · 08/09/2021 15:03

I think habitual, heavy drinkers, of the type that like to tell everyone else their shortcomings usually have more going on than just being drunk.
It's a chicken and egg situation.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 08/09/2021 15:03

I think it can but it's that persons opinions, in that moment, and massively amplified and more

So when sober you'd be annoyed at someone, but when you're drunk you hate them and have always hated them and will always hate them and then realise you've completely over reacted in the morning

5128gap · 08/09/2021 15:04

No, it's a myth. As for declaring feeling, context is everything. If you have reason to believe from past behaviour then maybe. But some people do get very emotional and affectionate when drunk. If they were to be taken seriously I'd think that several women I'd met for the first time in the pub toilets were harbouring feelings for me!

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 08/09/2021 15:05

I know I have definitely told the truth when drunk but I have also lied or said things I don't actually mean/believe when drunk.

So sometimes.. 🤷

Ikeeponkeepingon · 08/09/2021 15:18

Sometimes but sometimes drunk people muddle things up.

Ecdysis · 08/09/2021 15:21

Yep, me too. Big lies and Big truths, no way of knowing which will happen.
MajorNeville · 08/09/2021 15:23

I'm more likely to lie if I'm drunk. When I was young it was great fun, oh the stories I have!

TheGoogleMum · 08/09/2021 15:25

Sometimes yes, but it can also make people exaggerate and and make up stories and twist things.

TheLeadbetterLife · 08/09/2021 15:25

I think when it comes to declarations of love or whatever, being drunk makes it complicated, rather than the truth necessarily.

When people are drunk, their feelings can be heightened, or confused.

I've had men declare they love me in pissed phone calls, but there were other factors that made it unlikely they really did (like being in a relationship that wasn't working, so they had romanticised the idea of me). They didn't know me enough to love me, it was all a fantasy.

I've also made pissed phone calls to other men (well, boys really, this was a long time ago) when fed up with a boyfriend. I never did anything as silly as declaring I loved them, but I was indulging a fantasy.
