Husband doesn't like my cooking any more

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 07/09/2021 19:34

I love cooking and when I have time I like to try out new healthy recipes. I also sometimes cook convenience food like spaghetti and meatballs with pasta sauce from a jar or fish and oven chips with frozen peas or baked beans. For years my husband and sons have tucked into whatever I've given them once my youngest got over his childhood fussy phase. Now my husband has started saying that he doesn't like some of the meals I've cooked for years - aibu to want to still cook them for the rest of us and leave him to fend for himself?

Sorry quote fail. That was to @Daisydoesnt

I’m sorry OP but I’m just really struggling to square these statements “I love to cook” “I like to try out new healthy recipes” “I also sometimes cook convenience food like spaghetti and meatballs with pasta sauce from a jar or fish and oven chips with frozen peas or baked beans”

I know we all have days when we just want to get food on the table but if you’re a keen cook how can you bear to dish up oven chips and baked beans. That’s just unhealthy, unmitigated stodgy.

Which meals in particular does your DH no longer want?

Give the fuck over.

I cook almost every meal from scratch. I bloody love cooking and can happily spend hours in the kitchen faffing about with all 496 ingredients needed for an Ottolenghi recipe.

Do I still love a Big Mac? I sure as hell do. Sometimes we want unhealthy stodge, even if it is unmitigated Hmm

billy1966 · 07/09/2021 21:37

Excellent cook and baker here, I too love beans/cheese/poached egg on buttered toast with black pepper.

Would eat that regularly given the chance.
Definitely my hangover meal.

Oh behave!!

😂

Behave yourself.

Sausage, chips and beans is one of the all-time-greats in this house. And yes, oven chips. And no, we don't eat it all that often, but by God it's lovely.

Baked beans are not unhealthy; nor are oven chips unless you are eating them by the bucketload.

NotMyCat · 07/09/2021 22:00

I cook because well, I live alone and I haven't managed to train the cat yet
If I went to someone's house for tea and they dished up a cheese toastie I would be over the fucking moon. Sausage egg and chips and I would be moving in Grin

SapatSea · 07/09/2021 22:01

What does he suggest you cook?
Has he decided to go on a health kick or diet but not told you?
Is anything else happening - is he going off you?

user1471538283 · 07/09/2021 22:04

In our house you get what you are given and you are grateful. I hate cooking so whatever appears is dinner.

If he doesn't like it he can cook.

user1471538283 · 07/09/2021 22:06

@notmycat - like you if anyone cooks me anything I'm delighted!

Inextremis · 07/09/2021 22:17

Henceforth Friday nights shall be known as 'Unmitigated Stodge' nights in this house, as DH sods off to the pub, and I take the opportunity to have a break from cooking from scratch :)

Toomanyradishes · 07/09/2021 22:35

When my anemia is bad i got off some foods and meals even ones I normally really like, my sense of smell gets more intense and the smell of food cooking can put me off the meal before its even ready, any chance he could be anemic?

Newestname002 · 07/09/2021 22:41

@NothingIsWrong

He can cook them surely? My husband told me about 18 months ago that he was bored with the meals I planned and shopped for.

I haven't planned or shopped since, although I will cook meals that he has planned and shopped for. He's pretty good at it now :-)

I just love this... 😂
Avocadoseed · 07/09/2021 22:42

LMFAO it’s chips and baked beans not a plate of dog shite!

That's quite a leap Confused
DementedPanda · 07/09/2021 22:53

I live cooking but sometimes I'm so busy I serve homemade chips, fried eggs and buttered white bread. They love it, it's like treat night! Sometimes the simple quick meals are a favourite.

If he doesn't like it he can make something for himself .

DementedPanda · 07/09/2021 22:53

Love not live 🙄

CorianderBee · 07/09/2021 22:56

Well the Brits aren’t known for their delicious cookingGrin
Rude. And based on post-war attitudes 🙄
leavesthataregreen · 07/09/2021 23:01

Thishappened to me. DH does all the cooking now, except when I'm in the mood to which is surprisingly seldom. Grin

FOJN · 07/09/2021 23:02

You're caring for your son and doing voluntary work, he's retired and indulging his music hobby; you cook an easy meal on days when you other commitments, he's complaining about your cooking and refuses to do it despite some chef training.

Is Daisydoesn't setting a record for most quoted ridiculous post?

Fuck off is the only reasonable response. I would not be preparing another crumb for the ungrateful shit.

Jemand · 07/09/2021 23:09

I have suggested he cook more for us but he won't

Then he doesn't get to complain about what you cook. You're not his slave, nor are you running a restaurant where people get to pick and choose what they eat. Tell him you will no longer bother to cook for him on the nights when you are doing something he claims to dislike and he can fend for himself.

Oooh get you! 🤪 Food snobbery.

I do exactly this too, sometimes lovely stuff cooked from a recipe but if I'm tired it'll be egg and chips.

OP, get him a basic cook book (the Jamie Oliver one is great) and tell him to crack on .

mathanxiety · 07/09/2021 23:15

Whole-wheat pasta and low fat cheddar is where you're going wrong.

Your advice of telling OP's DH to "shit off" has given me a proper fit of the giggles. Sat here by myself still sniggering at it.

I'm a regular potty mouth but this phrase has really tickled me.

😅😅😅😅😅😅😅[/quote]
Me too. I can't wait to tell DH to 'shit off' 😂
