Inspired/copied/due to lack of my own ideas

What phrases/come backs/irritating things do people say on MN?

OP posts:
notacooldad · 07/09/2021 13:32

I agree with this. Some posters write long and thoughtful posts and get no recognition. Others write 5 words and are really blunt and get fawned over how amazing and insightful they are. It's weird.

I am the queen of being ignored!! There's so many times I've said something and it's not been acknowledged and someone else says the same thing and everyone agrees with them!!
Dont worry there's no need to acknowledge this post, I'm used to being ignored!🤣🤣🤣🤣

ChrissyPlummer · 07/09/2021 13:32

Oh and when asked for packed lunch/picnic ideas it’s always “a selection of cold meats and cheeses, crackers, dips, cucumber and carrot sticks”. Not even my ‘posh’ friends eat this at picnics 😂

traintraveller · 07/09/2021 13:32

@HailAdrian

Not a phrase but the fangirling on some threads makes me cringe!
I agree, it makes me cringe as well. I was on a thread the other day and the fangirling was pathetic and anyone who disagreed with the OP was ridiculed
HailAdrian · 07/09/2021 13:32

Ooh I do have a phrase as well, 'stupid and selfish,' generally used to describe anyone doesn't eat, sleep and breathe coronavirus.

BoredZelda · 07/09/2021 13:32

“What are the sayings on MN you can’t stand”

Cheeseandlobster · 07/09/2021 13:32

Simples. Just fuck off

I just spat my tea on the keyboard/ laughed so loud I woke nextdoors baby. You fucking liar - that did not happen

Proudboomer · 07/09/2021 13:33

Are they on the spectrum?

For anyone who displays rude, anti social or just down right weird behaviour.

MatildaIThink · 07/09/2021 13:33

"Be kind" - No, I will be realistic, not cover things in stupid platitudes or say something "nice" but factually inaccurate.
"Boils my piss" - I have never heard anyone say this in real life, it just seems one of those odd MN phrases that people on here love to spout.
"Give your head a wobble" - Another idiotic phrase, I had forgotten how much I hate that until I read it on this thread again.

HailAdrian · 07/09/2021 13:33

Me too, it was quite funny really!

londonmummy1966 · 07/09/2021 13:33

"magic mumsnet chicken" - some of us were not born with a silver spoon and did have mothers who eked out the Sunday roast for another couple of dinners (plus soup).

Duly noted 🤣🤣🤣🤣
TheDistortion · 07/09/2021 13:37

It's not just on Mumsnet but I loathe:

"doesn't sit right with me"
"you do know that blah blah blah, right?"
"educate yourself"
and of course "give your head a wobble"

baroqueandblue · 07/09/2021 13:38

IYSWIM - yes I do. Either that, or I don't care enough to try to decipher your meaning.

Just fucking DROWN!

MissyB1 · 07/09/2021 13:38

“educate yourself”
“It’s not my job to educate you”

Both of the above usually being said by someone who could do with a bit more education themselves!

Why do you think you had to be born with a silver spoon to use the chicken all up?Confused

The MN chicken came from people saying they make one last for 5 meals plus sandwiches and with the best will in the world even my late Nan who would use the oink from a pig couldn't do that.

Etulosba · 07/09/2021 13:41

People who claim to have a “bad relationship with food”.

Or gluttons as they used to be called.

MatildaIThink · 07/09/2021 13:42

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

Although I do kind of get it, five meals (for a family) is obviously a huge exaggeration, but I have also seen friends who will cut the breast, legs and wings off a chicken and throw everything else away, usually having missed half the breast meat when cutting and probably less than half the meat overall.

baroqueandblue · 07/09/2021 13:43

Oh, and thread titles like "I blah blah blah, don't I? ' or 'I've blah blah blahed, haven't I?

You'd know. And if you don't know, why are you asking us in that twatty way?

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 07/09/2021 13:45

I also hate it when people say their husbands are "greedy pigs".

"My dh had 2 burgers at a barbecue, he has always been a gluttonous greedy pig, only last week he had 3 slices of pizza and a MASSIVE (its always massive) salad. AIBU to divorce him for his sheer greedy?"

stopringingme · 07/09/2021 13:45

I didn't want to read and run - I do not understand why you need to say this, is it letting us know that you are so busy but have found the time to post and we should be grateful ?

Do they have Dementia ? this comes up on countless threads where you would not even get that idea from the thread.

Notgoingonholiday · 07/09/2021 13:46

traintraveller
The one where the OP was on hols with a friend?
If so, it was comical. Posters were falling over each other to be the OPs top supporter/defender Grin

ChrissyPlummer · 07/09/2021 13:46

“Can you pick up some shifts at a pub?” “Can you increase your hours?” “Can you get a better paid job?” If only life were so simple 🙄🙄

PurpleDaisies · 07/09/2021 13:48

That’s uncalled for.
Oliack1417 · 07/09/2021 13:48

'Didn't want to read and run..' really annoys me for some reason.
Also anyone referring to themselves as 'mummy'. Mummies night out, I'm olivias mummy, etc. Probably a bit unreasonable but it really annoys me, I see mummy as a name used by a child for their mum!
