Every. Single. Morning.

Why can't he cut them horizontally, like a normal person?

Bah.

NoCureForLove · 30/08/2021 13:21

You are wrong. He and the rest of us are right... Smile

Ekofisk · 30/08/2021 13:21

How do you cut a tomato horizontally?

ofwarren · 30/08/2021 13:22

I've never seen anyone cut them horizontally

RosesAndHellebores · 30/08/2021 13:22

I agree with the op.

Ekofisk · 30/08/2021 13:23

My DM cuts bread horizontally but that’s a whole different thread.

Singlebutmarried · 30/08/2021 13:23

For salads, vertically, for grilling horizontally

purplesequins · 30/08/2021 13:23

what?
you cut tomatos around the 'equator'?
that's all wrong.

AlfonsoTheMango · 30/08/2021 13:23

YABU. Cutting them vertically is the way God intended. Sorry to be the one to break it to you, OP.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/08/2021 13:24

@Ekofisk

How do you cut a tomato horizontally?
Rotate it 90 degrees then cut it vertically? Grin

I actually do both. Vertically if I'm slicing them, but I'd cut them in half horizontally if I'm grilling them because they don't wobble as much.

I cut baby plum tomatoes lengthways (to add another element!).

pigsDOfly · 30/08/2021 13:24

Never seen anyone cut tomatoes horizontally.

LadyCatStark · 30/08/2021 13:24

Eh? Is there another way??

Ekofisk · 30/08/2021 13:24

I see. OP is referring to the tomato stalk position?

LochinverSwimmingPool · 30/08/2021 13:25

WTF?

I do not know anyone who cuts tomatoes vertically. Well - other than DH.

You are all VVVU.

You are all wrong.

You cut around the equator/ horizontally for frying / grilling / stuffing.

And vertically for salads. It’s obvious.

eosmum · 30/08/2021 13:27

Of course you cut them vertically and take out the stalky bit, if you do it horizontally then one side has all the stalky bit.

LochinverSwimmingPool · 30/08/2021 13:27

@Ekofisk

I see. OP is referring to the tomato stalk position?
Yes.

If one cuts a tomato horizontally, the nasty bit where the stalk was remains in its own half, and I can offload it on to DH's plate, leaving the nice half without the stalk for myself.

EXACTLY my point. Thank heavens for some sanity on here.

iklboo · 30/08/2021 13:28

You mean he cuts them top to bottom? Do you turn them on their side to cut them (I have a hangover - trying to imagine is too hard).

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/08/2021 13:28

I do the same as you IM0GEN. Apart from for stuffing — I just take a little 'lid' off, rather than halving them.

NoCureForLove · 30/08/2021 13:28

Err, if you cut your tomato in half vertically you will still have two halves for grilling?!

PeskyRooks · 30/08/2021 13:28

Yes as IM0GEN says.
You are the wrong 'un OP

LochinverSwimmingPool · 30/08/2021 13:28

@IM0GEN

Why vertically for salads, though?
OP posts:
SingleHandSue · 30/08/2021 13:28

My mum always cut them vertically so that’s how I did it, then I got a job preparing salad for a sandwich bar and was taught to cut them horizontally.

They definitely look better cut horizontally and I can’t do it any other way now.

KingdomScrolls · 30/08/2021 13:29

YABVU
Also you have tomatoes for breakfast every day?!

MaMelon · 30/08/2021 13:29

If you cut a tomato horizontally then every slice has the stalk going through the middle Shock

You're wrong and your DH is right OP
