DH Cuts Tomatoes Vertically -AIBU To Be Outraged

Every. Single. Morning.

Why can't he cut them horizontally, like a normal person?

Bah.

The problem you have op is that you give away the fact that you get the good half by admitting to DH why you cut them horizontally. Which means holding your tongue when he cuts them and forces stalk on you, or you doing all future tomato cutting. It's a real dilemma 😱🤯

saladcreamandegg · 30/08/2021 13:53

AND ... what if he starts cutting horizontally but giving you all the stalk?!! Then it all goes to shit and can only end in divorce 🥺

ThePlantsitter · 30/08/2021 13:54

If you cut them horizontally you have to cut a fancy zigzag shape as if a little tomato chick has just jumped out of it. It's the law.

That has actually happened occasionally, after another of my attempts to make him cut them horizontally has temporarily sunk in.

I just swap the good halves on to my plate.

45 degree angle.

LochinverSwimmingPool · 30/08/2021 13:57

I am disappointed.

Nobody has (yet) told me I sound like hard work.

Do people cut tomatoes? I eat them like apples - and throw away the stalky bit.
Cherry toms I eat whole - shove it all in my mouth and dribble - its the only way.
If I want cooked tomatoes I bake them whole.
I don't stuff them - that would be a whole new level of crazy

Staffy1 · 30/08/2021 13:59

People actually cut them horizontally? The mind boggles.

Tiana4 · 30/08/2021 14:00

I cut tomatoes horizontally
Worked as a teen in restaurants

It is the way

Sorry OP you don't sound like hard work, except to have a wonky tomato cutting DH

Tiana4 · 30/08/2021 14:02

Everyone throws away the ends (except the slicer eats them )

Have you tried tomato mozzarella salad (sliced tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, fresh basic chopped up and sprinkled and balsamic vinegar) ? That's my brunch a couple times a week...

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/08/2021 14:04

They are pretty much a sphere. Just remove the stalk...

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/08/2021 14:08

Shit. I'm with the OP. Just another way I am inhuman and weird I guess.

Blossomtoes · 30/08/2021 14:12

Always vertically. It’s too easy to cut yourself the other way.

PepeSilviaDoesNotExist · 30/08/2021 14:14

Horizontal. The tomato slices better and stays together so the insides don’t go everywhere when thin slicing for sandwiches.

It was recommended this way on a cooking show on tv.

Surely it depends what you are doing with the tomato? Cut horizontally (pink line in Polkadots diagram) for grilling or for slicing. If cutting into quarters or smaller then vertical (blue line in the diagram) first cut along the bit where there is only flesh so no seeds spill out.

Hesma · 30/08/2021 14:38

Horizontally is just wrong in so many ways shakes head slowly

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 30/08/2021 14:52

No way - you are the weird one OP. In the diagram it's always the green line you cut on, otherwise how can you nicely clip out the stringy bit? You'd have to cut a cone into one side of the tomato rather than just a small V out of the top of the cut side.

Like PP, if slicing I cut horizontally (pink line) so I can completely discard the end bit with the shitty stalk.

cricketmum84 · 30/08/2021 14:54

Yes, you'd think God would have found a way to create tomatoes which didn't involve the shitty stalk.

Not good enough, IMHO.
Damn those shitty stalks.

Topseyt · 30/08/2021 15:07

It is obligatory to cut tomatoes vertically 😉😎

Staffy1 · 30/08/2021 15:55

Mine cuts onions vertically. Now that’s just wrong. Tomatoes vertically is fine (right), but onions should be horizontally cut or they fall apart.

GoogleWhacked · 30/08/2021 15:59

@IM0GEN

You are all wrong.

You cut around the equator/ horizontally for frying / grilling / stuffing.

And vertically for salads. It’s obvious.

Almost... Vertical for sandwiches & wedges for salad 🥗😋
