Just found out I'm 3 weeks pregnant and have weddings to attend !

I've just found out I'm expecting again.

I've not missed my period yet, so it's such early days. I have to attend a wedding in a couple of days and it's going to be so obvious if I don't drink. But I can't drink, right ? I know most women wouldn't suspect a pregnancy this early, so probably would drink- but I just can't do it, seeing as I know I am.

It will raise many eyebrows that I'm not drinking.

I also have three other weddings in the next few weeks ! It's going to be so tough and so obvious !! ( if I stay pregnant )

What kind of excuses work best??

Just pour yourself one glass of table wine and keep pretending to sip on it. Get your partner to alternate drinking your and his.

Order cokes and tell people it’s vodka and coke.

I think it’s easier to pretend to drink than make excuses

cravingmilkshake · 25/08/2021 12:06

None, if you are a drinker at all other parties everyone will know.

On my 30th and a wedding I managed to drink Appletizer in a prosecco glass. No one suspected anything- not even my mum.

Good luck!

DartmoorChef · 25/08/2021 12:06

If you're a gin drinker then have just tonic water with lemon and ice. Nobody will be any the wiser

Spidey66 · 25/08/2021 12:07

Maybe pretend you're on antibiotics?

SardineJam · 25/08/2021 12:07

I had similar having to go out with work when pregnant, I ordered my own drinks (cranberry) and it was assumed I was drinking alcohol, no questions asked...you could also say you're on antibiotics for something?

starrynight87 · 25/08/2021 12:08

Just have some fizzy water or just amend your order.

No-one will know.

Spidey66 · 25/08/2021 12:09

Or be a driver?

WillaWeatherspoon · 25/08/2021 12:09

Don't pretend you're on antibiotics, it's like a PREGNANT klaxon going off. Just have something that looks like (but isn't) an alcoholic drink in front of you at all times, people don't pay that much attention so everyone will assume you're drinking.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/08/2021 12:10

Take the car?

Katiebee008 · 25/08/2021 12:10

No one will notice you're not drinking unless you make a thing of it. First response had it.

Peccary · 25/08/2021 12:10

Just tonic worked for me at a work do when I wasn't telling

BaronessBomburst · 25/08/2021 12:11

I just walked around clutching a glass of champagne and no-one noticed. DH handed me glasses of sparkling water with ice and lemon, which people presumed were G&Ts.
Later in the evening if anyone offered me a drink I said "No thank you, I think I've had enough!"
The hardest thing to cope with was the tiredness. It was an Irish wedding and they go on all night.

ChickpeaCrunch · 25/08/2021 12:11

Don't pretend to be on antibiotics.
Could you be driving?
Have a big event the next day?
Tell people they shouldn't ask that question as it can upset people?
Be on a health kick?

TheVanguardSix · 25/08/2021 12:11

Just hold a glass and chat a lot. The appletizer suggestion is a really good one!
I really don't think people will notice as much as you assume.
I'm teetotal and a lot of people don't know this about me. I often hold a glass of Sprite. People just assume it's vodka and something- if they even care, tbh.
I wouldn't worry too much. Enjoy the weddings! I remember my brother's, 20 years ago. I was in your shoes except further along and bursting from my bridesmaid gown and feeling very 'nausea green'. Grin

Shirleyphallus · 25/08/2021 12:13

No one will notice if you don’t make a big deal of it

DO NOT say you’re on antibiotics, you may as well just tell them you’re pregnant

Congrats Smile

Jengnr · 25/08/2021 12:15

I went to a party early on with mine but my SIL was in on it so kept swapping her glass for mine. She was on her arse by the end of the night Grin

IndiaMay · 25/08/2021 12:15

Yep take a glass at the drinks reception and just hold it, talk a lot. Then loose it somewhere before the meal. Just pop it down or hand to your husband to go to the loo. Pour a glass of table wine and ditto.
In the evening switch to lemonade and ice in a gin glass and drink. No one will notice at these things

ittakes2 · 25/08/2021 12:20

Order a drink and don't drink it - people are too busy scoffing their own drinks to be paying attention to whether people are bringing glasses to their lips.

woolyj · 25/08/2021 12:20

I'm driving! Best option ! And solves some other issues we had around it all. Perfect ! Thanks everyone

Dsisproblem · 25/08/2021 12:21

Agreed. Just hold a drink. People don't notice. What they do notice is elaborate excuses!

woolyj · 25/08/2021 12:22

On people not noticing, I had a wedding the last time I was pregnant. Everyone knew! It's so obvious, as I do enjoy a party usually Grinit's super unlike me, not to drink at a wedding !

TartanJumper · 25/08/2021 12:26

Is anyone going to be taking notice of what you drink? I can't imagine caring!
Be the driver.

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/08/2021 12:27

Let your hair down and act as if you've had a drink. Get loud , dance, tell everyone "I really looove you " whilst draped over them.

Hahaha! Yes start a load of arguments!
SilverTimpani · 25/08/2021 12:34

Yeah, just fake it! I used to pretend to sip from a glass of wine all evening, or ask the bartender to stick a slice of lime in a lemonade and pretend it’s a gin and tonic.
