Covid Isolation Hotel Nightmare

Suppermumzy · 24/08/2021 16:18

Stuck in this London Isolation Hotel...food is terrible...if you are lucky to go out for exercise you are hurriedly sent back in as there is always a list waiting to go out and use the outdoor space which can safely have 4 people in at a time..i will add photos of food. Cost for 11 days £2285.

I asked today "Would they stop me if I wanted to leave?" Answer No..but you will be reported as an absconder and may face a £10,000 fine....Surely this is not voluntary nor is it fair...who is monitoring this system..we seam to be a forgotten minority rotting away behind fences..

I am coming back from Africa to bury my 99 year old father who died 1/08....and I couldn't have not gone...I had to see him through....Surely this is not voluntary imprisonment as without the hotel booking reference you are not allowed on your flight at the departure airport...

AIBU to feel aggrieved by the system..when i left England the hotel fee was £1750...when I went to book it had gone up £500....NHS nurse looked after British public throughout the Pandemic but I feel that I am incapacitated to look after my own..including my young kids...

Sorry to hear about your dad.

With regards to the food, if you're paying that much for the hotel, you'd expect it to be proper hotel food - not diarrhoea on a plate Shock How can they get away with that?

UpstreamSwimmer · 24/08/2021 17:13

£1750 was already a total ripoff. Everyone involved in this con should be locked up and key thrown away. I'd say lie on your upcoming tax assessment to claw it back.

Milkbottlelegs · 24/08/2021 17:14

Trust that you would isolate at home should be sufficient.

Time and time again the British public has demonstrated they cannot be trusted. I know quite a few who didn’t isolate last summer when they should have done.

OP that does all sound (and look) totally awful, I’m sorry.

Pugdogmom · 24/08/2021 17:15

I sympathise OP. I have to travel ( Europe) to take my daughter to Italy to start Uni..She needs someone with her till she familiarises herself, ( MH issues). The red tape we need to go through is mindblowing despite being double vaccinated, forms, Covid tests, etc. I certainly wouldn't be travelling if I didn't have to.Angry

Queenie6655 · 24/08/2021 17:15

Sending you lots of hugs OP

So sorry for your losS

Can you give them feedback re the dire food?

How are you occupied each day?

This will all be over very soon

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/08/2021 17:16

That sounds awful. Terrible food. Of course you needed to go. I’ve said YABU as people don’t isolate unfortunately. Flowers

HalzTangz · 24/08/2021 17:21

Although I fully understand why you travelled, you travelled knowing the rules was quarantine hotel. You can't just up and leave because you don't like the food or the lack of exercise.
It's 11 days not months or years, I'm sure you can cope for that amount of time

godmum56 · 24/08/2021 17:23

@Nsmum14

It's inhumane and unnecessary. Trust that you would isolate at home should be sufficient.

I am so sorry you are having to go through this, at great personal expense, after the death of your father. My condolences.

except anecdotally people don't
Hoppinggreen · 24/08/2021 17:25

I am sorry for your loss.
That food is bloody awful, can you get anything sent in?

Warsawa31 · 24/08/2021 17:26

Sorry for your loss.

If I could of imagined what the conditions and food would look like I'd imagine exactly that. Some greedy arsehole creaming off a huge amount of the ridiculous price instead of giving people healthy and decent food

legosunqueen · 24/08/2021 17:28

That food is appalling for the price. Please copy the pics to your MP OP, this is profiteering...

QueenHofScotland · 24/08/2021 17:28

Don’t agree with the PP about it being inhumane. It’s a stay in a hotel room where you get food provided. There are people in far worse situations - isolated at home without insufficient money to eat etc

I appreciate it must be extremely boring and that it could be better organised.

And the quality of food should / could be far better. Cereal, toast and fruit for breakfast would be far better and cheap enough to make, so the breakfast is very random.

It isn’t comparable to a hotel stay though in terms of cost. I imagine they have extra staff for security, testing, organising etc

QueenHofScotland · 24/08/2021 17:30

If people showed they were trustworthy enough to isolate at home then the government wouldn’t have organised the quarantine hotels. I imagine they are an absolute pain in the arse to organise.

lifeturnsonadime · 24/08/2021 17:34

Bunch of money grabbing bastards.

i can understand requiring the hotel isolation but ripping people off is just disgusting. There will be contracts involved in this provision and someone will be making a lot of money off the back of these forced isolations. That food is rank.

I am so sorry for your loss OP.

mcmooberry · 24/08/2021 17:36

That food looks grim - and for that money!! Dreadful! Poor you and sorry to hear about your dad.

TwoBlondes · 24/08/2021 17:36

Yet people were allowed to go to Boardmasters. I don't mind rules if there's logic!

Anjo2011 · 24/08/2021 17:37

Looks hideous. However the rules are the rules and you have to isolate on return to UK depending on country you have arrived from, regardless of reason for travel. There is no way around it.
The food offering for you looks appalling, considering the amount of money you have to pay to stay in these hotels. Sorry for your loss.

twilightermummy · 24/08/2021 17:38

That breakfast looks horrendous. I really think that it should be reported to the media like they did when the kids’ free meals were full of shite.

Poor you having to grieve stuck inside a place like that. Your mental health must be shot to pieces right now. Stay strong x

Mantlemoose · 24/08/2021 17:39

Friends had to do this in March 2020 on arrival in Oz, they didn't even get out of the room nor did their windows open.

QueenHofScotland · 24/08/2021 17:40

@TwoBlondes

Yet people were allowed to go to Boardmasters. I don't mind rules if there's logic!
That’s true and annoying.

But surely it’s a case of mitigating as many risks as we can?

It’s like people moaning that can meet 6 friends in a restaurant and not at home (before the rules changed) they were saying it wasn’t logical.

QueenHofScotland · 24/08/2021 17:41

I would have huge issues with this.

Happy to quarantine in a hotel but not having any fresh air might make me panic a bit.

amylou8 · 24/08/2021 17:41

Sorry about your dad. I have ties with a red country in Asia, and a lot of people are coming back via a third green or amber country, staying their 11 days there at a fraction of the cost, and having a nice holiday too. Not much help to you now though.

isthisareverse · 24/08/2021 17:42

Trust that you would isolate at home should be sufficient.

that's silly. If there had ever been doubts, the lockdown has proven that people cannot be trusted.

But there are solutions, even a tag and police check would be better.

ArcheryAnnie · 24/08/2021 17:43

I am sorry, OP, but YABU. Unfortunately many people just don't comply with voluntary isolation, so this is why the stay in a hotel is necessary.

That said, that food does look pretty grim. They could at least put it on a plate!

Freedomprogramme · 24/08/2021 17:45

Re the breakfast, it reminds me of this (below), and I wonder if mumsnet can write about it to cheer the OP up.
