To ask for your “game changers”

Things you’ve bought that have essentially changed your life for the better.

For me, it’s a swim dress. Basically a swimming costume with a little skirt that just covers the bikini line. Flattering, hides my stomach and most importantly it doesn’t matter if my bikini line is needing a little attention. It has completely taken the stress out of taking the kids swimming and now we go all the time Smile

Other game changers for me include the perfect prep (🥰), L’Oréal eight-second wonder water, and Pinch of Nom.

So now I have a robo-vac on my wish list!

Also, going to look into collagen powder and move my Dolce Gusto to the bedside table.

I caved and bought a projector in the first lockdown and we very much look forward to our weekly movie nights.

Kinda silly in the grand scheme of things, but this fridge calendar has really been a game changer for me. I can colour code to my heart's content and rub out anything that has to be cancelled...a lot nicer than scribbling things out! Smile

Ok so I now have a wish list as long as my arm and have also started a Christmas list with ideas for friends and family!! So many good ideas!

Mine are:

Arlo wireless cameras front and back. Makes me feel much safer

Spotify - I can make playlists of podcast episodes- been amazing for when I'm travelling

Minimalism- I'm very much still learning this but as a pp said, game changing in all areas of life

Trello - fab productivity app. Keeps my multiple projects organised.

FIRE movement (financially independent retire early) - not the extreme form (very very frugal) but the ideas from this led me to sell my expensive house and move to one in a cheaper area, lopping £30k and 3 years off my mortgage. And I love my new home.

SwimmingUnderwater · 28/08/2021 08:56

@Vanishun

Lots of these! Also, thanks to mumsnet, an understanding of autism in women that led to my diagnosis and then my husband's.

And then a recommendation for Melatonin gummies from Biovea which has helped him sleep deeply for the first time ever really.

Please could you share a link for the melatonin gummies ?
Vanishun · 28/08/2021 09:16

@SwimmingUnderwater

Of course! Hope this link works - if not, google "Biovea melatonin gummies".

https://www.biovea.net/UK/product/detail/14917/melatonin-gummies-5mg--mixed-bery---60-Gummies/

Took about 3 or 4 weeks to arrive from the US. You can also search for threads on here where people have discussed other suppliers like Piping Rock.

@Shuttheblinds tell me about the plant watering measuring thingy!

We had a Bagotte robohoover, then it died, then we went upmarket and got a roomba mop and hoover (2 machines). Just SO nice not bumping myself on the furniture hoovering.

Ooh and bought a 5m extension hose for the Henry. Game changer for stairs! Henry stays at the bottom.

Plastic plates and cups (bought end of season from IKEA) - I used to be particularly clumsy during PMS...

Ebikes are game changers - for market trips - no more lugging 5 bags back to the car / having them all squished into a shopping trolley - all stacked neatly side by side in the panniers and topbox.

InteriorDesignHell · 28/08/2021 10:52

Ooh and water softeners.
We got one just because our hous is falling to bits we need a new kitchen and bathroom, and for no other reason, BUT, my skin is much less dry, everything is CLEANER (it turned out limescale is a great gunk catcher), so I am happier with the eyewatering cost...

SwimmingUnderwater · 28/08/2021 11:49

Thank you!

Macncheeseballs · 28/08/2021 13:24

Does a eufy vacuum work well on multi surfaces, say rugs on wooden floors?

CleanQueen123 · 28/08/2021 14:14

@diamondpony80 which brand of collagen powder do you use?

Roussette · 28/08/2021 15:04

Yes to proper water softener. It's fitted next to the mains tap and we've had it for years, because we live in a particularly hard water area.

Limescale, what's limescale?!

doadeer · 28/08/2021 15:13

Calm App.
I have a very busy mind and chronic pain and I was finding it hard to sleep even though I was exhausted. I listen to sleep stories and it works so brilliantly. I also do the meditations and use the soundscapes for quiet time for my toddler.

It's amazing.

lifeinlimbo2020 · 28/08/2021 15:37

@Roussette @3ormorecharactersss if you have dark hair I would 100% pay out or borrow a Phillips Lumea just for the upper lip. Wish I'd had one when I was younger. I even paid for laser hair removal at a private hospital in my twenties and that never worked. Three sessions on the Lumea and gone forever 🙌🏻

lifeinlimbo2020 · 28/08/2021 15:44

@Ostagazuzulum me too! I've found this one on Amazon which comes in at £85 with a £70 off voucher. It has the same spec as an Eufy and great reviews ......

To ask for your “game changers”
lifeinlimbo2020 · 28/08/2021 16:14

@wildthingsinthenight I was looking into this. Which ones do you have?

lifeinlimbo2020 · 28/08/2021 16:22

@mommybear1 I got mine from Screwfix or Toolstation years ago for less than one hundred quid. Still works brilliantly and is compact and quiet. I spent lots more money on branded 'domestic' ones and they always broke.

Roussette · 28/08/2021 16:43

lifeinlimbo will look into that!

I don't know if this is the model I have, but I have a robit (named Roberto) and he's great.

InvincibleInvisibility · 28/08/2021 20:18

Washable sanitary towels. Sooo comfy.

Minimalism. Its changing my whole outlook on life for the better.

Cazck · 28/08/2021 20:49

I have these and love them as well - never thought of getting them as gifts for others but what a fab idea!

ColaPip · 28/08/2021 22:02

Fab thread!
Mine are Philips Lumea, Brazilian blowdries, Lakeland heated airer and coverless duvets.

WetSausageRoll · 29/08/2021 07:44

Bought myself a gel nail lamp/kit at the start of lockdown last year. £60 ish for the kit but I haven’t paid for a shellac since, saves time and money as I can just do it myself in my pyjamas watching schitts creek rather than have to go out on a Saturday morning and make small talk for an hour.

Nottheduchess · 29/08/2021 08:12

Those of you with robo vacs, do they go room to room? So if it’s on in the living room/bedroom, will it go out into the hall way?

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/08/2021 08:20

Yes.

LBirch02 · 29/08/2021 08:58

When I was on a serious weight loss mission last year - lost over 5 stone in total - it was those salads you buy in packets but with no dressing. They were filling but relatively little calories. Really helped me stick to what was a strict diet/exercise programme.

Meraas · 29/08/2021 09:13

@LynetteScavo

And Amazon Prime. I thought everyone had it, but it seems not.
This has to be the most middle class post yet.
