How do they have the energy to play with their kids ALLLLL the time.

All the kit. The little games. The fun ideas. I do play with my kids obviously but good grief. More than 10 minutes role play and I want to to gouge my eyes out.

Light hearted obvs Blush

I have used the line 'Boring things are important' from The Pool soooo many times!

CaveMum · 23/08/2021 22:50

Big Bluey fans in this house too, and yes DH is forced to play Magic Xylophone on a regular basis!

DS (4) favourite episode is Fairies and DD (7) regularly can be heard yelling “Diddums” at DS when they play together.

The sleep episode makes me cry too, and I have been known to mutter “Biscuits” under my breath rather than swearing on occasion!

This is a great article about the show: www.vulture.com/2021/05/bluey-best-kids-tv-show.html

@VanGoSunflowers

But have you all discovered Storybots?? That show is epic.

There is one episode and Snoop Dogg (actual rapper bloke - Snoop Dogg) appears to teach you about how computers work. It’s amazing.

We often use storybots in our science lessons at school. They are ace!

4yo DD tells everyone in a dramatic voice "I have bum worms" and I have to explain that it's from a cartoon, she doesn't actually have worms.

We do tactical wees too.

The takeaway episode is not a cartoon, it's a hardhitting documentary detailing a typical day of my life.

I always feel a bit weepy when Bluey asks Nana if she had a Nana and she (nana) says "oh yes, she was the best Nana" because it makes me miss my own nana.

Love the grannies. Whenever any of the DC get hold of a blanket they wrap themselves up in it and shout "mahjong!" at each other.

Has anyone seen the TikTok theory about Bandit and Chilli being involved in dodgy dealings because that's the only way they could afford their lifestyle based on the jobs they do? Basically Bandit, an archaeologist, knows where to source priceless artifacts and Chilli, who works in airport security, is an expert in how to smuggle them out of the country. Presto chango, million dollar house in a desirable suburb.

Figmentofimagination · 23/08/2021 23:51

@NotagainTuesday it really does pull at your heart strings. DS didn't sit up until 10m, bum shuffled at 13m, crawled at 19m (straight into a door because he had his head down🤦🏻‍♀️) and walked 2 days after his 2nd birthday. I always compared him and felt like a bad mother and could have done with a pep talk like Chilli got from Coco's mum.

Biscuits is DH's new swear word after DS kept copying him (DS also likes the copycat episode).
Don't enjoy when DS calls me mate though.

Ohhelppp · 24/08/2021 00:12

@Figmentofimagination
MY DC ARE CALLING ME MATE TOO! And DS calls me madam… is that from Bluey as well, by any chance?
I don’t take enough notice when they’re watching to have any in depth knowledge but DH has said for ages it makes him feel inadequate. And one day he made me sit down with him to watch the sleep episode because it had choked him up and he knew I’d love it/bawl my eyes out. Which I did!
It’s the only programme my DC will watch happily together (4 & 8) so I live it for that reason alone.

This makes a lot of sense!

ottermadness · 24/08/2021 00:31

Love love love Bluey!

ShitShop · 24/08/2021 00:44

My DCs are all teens now so I feel I’m missing out! One day DS16 told us about this show and said how wholesome it was, so we all watched an episode together. I may have to put it on our family viewing list!!

AllyBama · 24/08/2021 00:49

Yep the camping episode, baby race, the one where the kids visit chili’s dad and the one where the army kids dad surprised him at school have all made me cry. Love it.

Greygreenblue · 24/08/2021 01:26

@Cannes12

I honestly think Bluey was commissioned by the Austrialian government to teach macho Aussie men how to be nurturing parents.
I think you are overestimating the Australian Government there. Did you see their recent attempts at teaching teenagers about consent?

I love Bluey, it does make me feel inadequate but at the same time you do see the frustrations (I particularly identify with Chilli in Sticky Gecko where she sits down and declares they are never going anywhere ever again). Also they inspire me to do better.

TreeSmuggler · 24/08/2021 02:26

Have you noticed though, that often the parents will make under the breath comments when they are asked to play like "oh... great" or "maybe I could just have a rest" Grin so it is so realistic as well as funny. But then of course they do end up playing with the kids and all having fun.

Such a good show. My fave is the ep where the dad meets another dad at the playground and they reluctantly become friends after Bluey forces them to play "cafe".

Ozgirl75 · 24/08/2021 05:33

My 10 year old and I stumbled on Bluey when we were staining in a hotel and there wasn’t much on. We now all watch it regularly as a family with my 8 year old too. It’s so funny and poignant and just brilliant.
Love the one where they visit Chilli’s dad, where they go camping, Baby race.
Also the one where they do a bush walk and get a couple of leeches has totally fixed my son of his leech fear which is handy as we get them sometimes on bush walks.
We all also love the ones with their cousins who are kind of a nightmare. We love “you know I told you you’re the most special person in the world? Well you aren’t”.

Twizbe · 24/08/2021 06:53

My two (4 and 2) love Bluey.

They are always walking around saying 'oh biscuits!' Or singing one little bug on the wall.

I need to look up baby race it seems.

georgeregina · 24/08/2021 06:59

I love the calypso episode, makes my approach to parenting and entertaining a child seem woeful though.

KatieKat88 · 24/08/2021 08:10

The Mum and Dad Mountain may make you feel better OP - Bingo and Bluey scale the parents because they're knackered and will play but only if they don't have to move or talk Grin

It's a regular favourite here with DD (21mo) and DH and I (33yo) - it's fab. Baby race made me cry. The pool episode and the claw episode are hilarious.

ChloeDecker · 24/08/2021 08:32

I can’t escape tickle crabs in my household Grin

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/08/2021 09:26

Dd often walks round the house singing "one is the Queen, one does not like being the Queen, but one does it anyway"

DisgruntledPelican · 24/08/2021 10:32

Need to look up Baby Race. DP has caught that one but I haven’t. I love The Pool as I have always been the designated bringer of Boring Important Things, even pre-children.

Menissues · 24/08/2021 15:12

Love bluey but on my now TV box it only shows 11 episodes ! I'm missing out!

TowelStripes · 24/08/2021 15:23

@Lottle

I fancy the dad. Blush
Me too 🙈

My 3 yr old keeps saying "dad is actually boring" now after watching the pool 🤣

They're all on Disney plus if you can access it.

Another mum that isn’t v good at playing here! All the time for craft, reading, outdoor activities, baking... but I don’t want to play a game I’ll only “get wrong” and be shouted at for by my 5yo so...

I love Bluey too. I like the one outside the takeaway where dad is clearly just at the end of his tether. Relatable.
