Air B n B, who gets the master room?

Planning a trip abroad next year for 10 days with my brother, his partner and 2 children and my partner and 3 children and our single sister.

We have found a place in the right location and size however we are having a dilemma with allocating the rooms.

Two of my children and their two will be sharing a family/kid room with bunk beds and beds. There is then a king size room left with an en suite and two queen size room. Single sister is happy to take a queen.

There are two other bathrooms in addition to the en suite.

We will be needing to put our then 5 year old in with us and I feel that we should have the larger room. The photos from the queen room would have very little floor space to put a foldaway bed.

My brothers partner isn’t happy with this idea and would like the king sized room.

If it’s important my brother and I will not be covering the air b n b, it is a gift trip from our sister who is joining.

Aibu that the room should go to us?

I think the parents with the extra child need the bigger room. If their other two kids also use the ensuite, then second family could have sile use of one bathroom, and single sister the sole use of the third, so each family sort of has an ensuite...

You should have the larger room to accommodate three people.

Your sister because she paid, and it keeps things equal. Whatever you do, don’t get into a argument about it and spoil the trip that none of you have paid for

Flip a coin. You may be right about the space but it’s ungracious to squabble when the trip is a gift. Is there any chance the 5 year old might want to squeeze in with the older DC?

Your sister should have the master bedroom with the ensuite as she is paying and it's very kind of her to treat you. You and your brother should each have a queen size room and a bathroom.

Three people definitely get a bigger room than two if there’s a choice.

Yeah it feels a little unfair, but if you need a bigger room then you should have it.
We had similar situation on recent extended family holiday. Despite us being one of the families that actually pay for the accommodation we got the shoddiest rooms because we arrived late. Dnephew and Dneice got the best and biggest room as they needed to fit a cot in.

Could the 5 year old go in with the other DCs?
Why does DSIL think she has rights to the bigger room anyway?

SIL reasons were she wanted the extra space and privacy.

I have told my sister she should take the king and en suite but she wanted me to have it with our LO, I got the call from my brother last night about the possible change of plan!

This! I’m cringing for you all arguing over a freebie! Toss a coin or let your single sister have it, don’t start a trip away together arguing over floor space, it doesn’t bode well for further decisions such as who pays what proportion of the joint food shop etc!

If your sister who is paying thinks you should have it with your child then have it. You having the room for 3 people trumps your SIL wanting space and privacy for two people-especially given you won’t have either, as your have your 5yr old with you!

I think your brother and sil would be very bottom of the list tbh

You first as having 3 people in one room, but that would only count if dc will definitely be in with you the whole holiday or will they want to stay in the kids room with his siblings/cousins? When we’ve had big family holidays, even though there has been allocated rooms and beds, the kids usually all pile into one room and top and tail!

Your sister would then deserve the bigger room to get more space/time away from the kids.. plus the rest of you have 1.5 rooms each and she has 1. Again dependent on if the price was split between families or per person.

Then lastly your brother and sil, because they are neither 3 people in need of a room nor an auntie in need of a break

Unless there is a backstory that sil needs a toilet very close to her, then she is BU.

Sister who paid takes the en suite.

This is because
A. She paid for this.
B. With an ensuite, she can close the bedroom door and escape the irritating chaos that is family life.
C. Solves the argument.

It sounds like there might be some nighttime issue with the toilet , is the only vaguely kind assumption I can make.

I mean everyone wants the best room don't they ? We'll sometimes pay more on shared holidays if everyone is ok with that, so we can have it.

But for SIL to be grabby about it on a free holiday is tackiness personified.

You should speak to DB and see what the issue is - Dsis is providing a free holiday, people shouldn't be wrangling over bedrooms.

Or you know what just be the bigger person and agree to take a Queen provided the pull out bed fits in the room. Is it really not an option for your 5 year old to go in with the other DCs ?

Either the person paying has it or the larger group. I think your SIL is pretty ungrateful and rude to insist on the bigger room.

Totally agree with this ^

If your sister then decides she wants to give the room to whoever she wants to then she can.
