I really do not find this funny and it is being funded by the Arts Council ie public monies. I’ve lost my sense of humour.

Hopefully it is not a ridiculous as that synopsis suggests.

Seawo · 17/08/2021 17:47

‘It’s a comedy about an anorexic guy who is trying to give himself stomach cancer so the NHS will perform stomach surgery’.

Can’t see it being in any way funny.

purpleme12 · 17/08/2021 17:50

Bloody hell
Who would want to see that

TonyThreePies · 17/08/2021 17:51

That's fucking awful Angry

idontknowwhyibother · 17/08/2021 17:53

Wtf. Hmm

I get transcomedy and all that but poor taste. Doubt anyone would want to see that.

Burnt0utMum · 17/08/2021 17:53

Yeah, I can't see how that'd be funny at all. Insensitive if anything.

girlmom21 · 17/08/2021 17:54

Sounds shite.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/08/2021 17:55

Please tell me there are some people calling this out on Twitter.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 17/08/2021 17:56

This really isn't funny.

NinaGonk · 17/08/2021 17:57

God the absolute unquestioning privilege of whoever dreamt that plot up.

Heatherington · 17/08/2021 17:57

😮

TheMarzipanDildo · 17/08/2021 17:58

What. The. Fuck.

KrisAkabusi · 17/08/2021 18:00

You can't say something isn't funny without having seen it. Humour is subjective. Just because you don't like the sound of something doesn't mean others won't find it hilarious. You're basing your dislike of it on a one sentence summary of the plot. That really doesn't tell you if it's funny or not. "A child is trapped on his own in a house while two lowlifes try to break in" doesn't sound particularly funny, but Home Alone is a very popular film.

SilverTimpani · 17/08/2021 18:09

Can’t judge a book by its cover and all that. You have no idea from that poster whether it’s clever, thoughtful, subversive, thought provoking etc.

And to be honest, even if you don’t find it funny - so? Not every piece of art will appeal to every audience. That’s the way of life.

Very true.

Fair enough.

I’m a fan of dark comedy but atm this just sounds like a fuck you to people with cancer. Maybe it’ll prove me wrong.

CorrBlimeyGG · 17/08/2021 18:21

The T-Word is what happens when a stand-up bit is taken way too seriously.

It's a shame you didn't bother to research a bit further.

Slythermum · 18/08/2021 07:42

I'll ask my best friend if this is a show she would like to go to.
Oh wait I can't because she died of breast cancer.

Regardless of whether the show is about something else - or subjectively funny or only funny to some people, the tweet from the performer is offensive. Put a rainbow on it and suddenly it makes it acceptable? Bullshit. Using something that creates so much pain and loss for women as your punchline is vile.

Apologists for this need to look at themselves in the mirror.

Standrewsschool · 18/08/2021 07:48

As someone who has had breast cancer, I find that a bit distasteful as well.

Soontobe60 · 18/08/2021 07:48

I believe their next show is a comedy about people trying to flee a war torn country by climbing onto the wing of a plane and failing miserably. Oh, wait….

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 18/08/2021 07:53

It's not aboit whether it's funny or not. The concept is attempting humour about deliberately trying to 'catch ' a disease that everyone dreads. And it's not catchable. And....it sounds like male privilege. 'I will catch this for my own benefit, stupid women should be using it as an opportunity for bigger boobs!' type thing. Acknowledge men get bc too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/08/2021 08:10

@LadyTiredWinterBottom2, in this instance it's not male privilege, as a 'trans guy' looking for 'top surgery' would be female and seeking an elective double mastectomy. Maybe the trans guy is trying out male privilege for size, though.

I can’t work out whether a “Trans guy” is a man wanting breast implants to look like a women, or a woman wanting a mastectomy to look like a man.

Either way, I guess it amuses the sort of people who find Frankie Boyle’s comments about disabilities and rape funny.

Holothane · 18/08/2021 08:11

That’s disgusting and very bad taste.

Slythermum · 18/08/2021 08:23

It's a transman (female to male) who is wanting "top surgery" (A full mastectomy) - and saying they are so desperate to have their breasts cut off that they are trying to "catch" breast cancer in order to skip the length of waiting for the surgery.

Offensive, bad taste, hurtful no matter how it is framed. I have tried to find out more about the show and there is scant little. Just a few videos where the transman in question gives a lukewarm self conscious performance of a bit of stand up and nothing else to "research a bit further" as one rainbow apologist has mentioned without any other information. Whilst the show itself may indeed be moving and stunning and brave - this flyer is disgusting, insulting and triggering.

I will be complaining to the arts council.
