How often do you clean your doorstep?

NDN being weird AF...always bothers me, with young DC, how friends and family bring dirt into the house, especially with COVID. So I always clean my step everyday as well as mopping downstairs floors. Neighbour thinks I'm being obsessed who's right?

OP posts:
Bebeschitt · 16/08/2021 19:13

Um. Once a year?

Bebeschitt · 16/08/2021 19:13

Shoes off in my house though. Dirty doorstep or not

BlueLobelia · 16/08/2021 19:14

doorstep about once a week.

Mopping downstairs a couple of times a week.

Sadiecow · 16/08/2021 19:14

Does the doorstep need cleaning!

wizzywig · 16/08/2021 19:15

Outside the front door? Never

Watto1 · 16/08/2021 19:15

I don’t think I ever have. Doormat just inside the door and shoes off.

ElizaDoolots · 16/08/2021 19:15

I don’t think I’ve ever thought to clean my doorstep. I just ask people to take their shoes off. Confused

WineIsMyCarb · 16/08/2021 19:15

Are you a working class northern woman from the 1920s? If so, YANBU...what would the rest of the street think of you if your step were covered in coal dust?!?!
If you are from the 21st century and have central heating then I think you can save yourself a job most weeks Smile

rainyskylight · 16/08/2021 19:15

Better you start cleaning the path and the pavement as well OP because they’ll be tramping that all over your nice clean step.

Or be shoes off household.

TinySaltLick · 16/08/2021 19:16

Literally never, it is outside the house

WashableVelvet · 16/08/2021 19:16

Coir doormat outside, washable doormat inside, shoes off. I have never washed the step.

MojoMoon · 16/08/2021 19:16

Covid is spread by airborne transmission.
A dirty doorstep does not spread covid. Neither do dirty shoes.

I have never cleaned my doorstep. How does mopping it stop people bringing dirt into the house? They must walk on the street and path to get there?

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 16/08/2021 19:17

Doorstep never
Floor in the hall gets mopped around once a week, runner thing gets hoovered around the same.

megletthesecond · 16/08/2021 19:19

Never.
Floor gets dysoned most weeks. No shoe household. No pets.

SomebodysMum · 16/08/2021 19:20

This is one of the weirdest things I’ve ever read.

DowntonCrabby · 16/08/2021 19:20

Literally not once in 15 years of living in my home. It’s possibly been swept through those years but cleaned, no.

NinaBallerinaShoes · 16/08/2021 19:23

Never. I don't wear an apron or a bonny ribbon in my hair either.

User16838 · 16/08/2021 19:25

I clean ours every couple of weeks and I’m not a weird clean person who washes the toilet 47 times a day. We’ve just got a new front door with a white step and it looks awful after rain etc. Nothing to do with Covid.

Burnt0utMum · 16/08/2021 19:27

We don't really have a "step" but directly outside the house gets brushed occasionally with the rest of the front garden to clear away leaves etc. Can't imagine ever actually washing the concrete slabs though. We're a shoes off household anyway.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/08/2021 19:28

Why just why would anyone clean the bloody front door step?! Thought that went out in the 1950’s when women used to compete to chalk it white.

Talk about finding work to do.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/08/2021 19:28

I have actually cleaned my doorstep before. We had birds nesting in the porch, and they make a right mess. (Porch as in outside covered bit, not indoors)

JellyfishandShells · 16/08/2021 19:28

Outdoor coir mat in open front porch and indoor mat mean that not a lot travels in. The outdoor mat gets a thwack against the front garden wall about every month or so to get rid of accumulated grit and the porch (equivalent to the doorstep ?) gets a sweep then. Probably an annual wash.

Hallway hoovered couple of times a week. DH about to deep clean and refinish all the downstairs wooden flooring over the next few days so we might have a couple of months of attempted levitation and muttering about inadequate shoe wiping action.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/08/2021 19:28

Wait. What👀

afaloren · 16/08/2021 19:28

Never. I might sweep it once a year or kick debris off it with my foot but actually clean it? Nope.

user97495 · 16/08/2021 19:28

As frequently as I vacuum the grass, and dust & polish the rose bushes.
