How often do you clean your doorstep?

NDN being weird AF...always bothers me, with young DC, how friends and family bring dirt into the house, especially with COVID. So I always clean my step everyday as well as mopping downstairs floors. Neighbour thinks I'm being obsessed who's right?

Having lived in my house for 25 and never having cleaned it, I’ve just been to check to see if it is dirty. Just noticed my front door frame is flush with the edge - who knew!

purpleme12 · 16/08/2021 19:30

This made me laugh cos it made me think of when I was in Spain when always saw people doing this ... And yet I knew no one who did it here!

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 16/08/2021 19:30

I've lived here nearly 6 years. The step outside the door is under a covered porch. The only thing I've done to clean was sweep away the dust when we replaced the coir mat 3 years ago.

SofaSpuds · 16/08/2021 19:30

Maybe twice in the past 20 years. Daily seems bonkers to me 🤪

BordelDeMerde · 16/08/2021 19:31

I don't really have a doorstep. We hoover/power wash outside when it looks particularly dirty. Hoover maybe once a month. Power wash maybe every 4/6 months.

vodkaredbullgirl · 16/08/2021 19:31

Never.

IvysMum12 · 16/08/2021 19:31

Turtle Mats. They catch all the dirt. Then Vacuum up.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 16/08/2021 19:33

You mean the stone step in front of the door?
Never.

My great grandma will be turning in her grave 😁.

BordelDeMerde · 16/08/2021 19:33

*should have noted that we have a veranda thingy outside the front door. I'm hoovering that, not the street because that would be bonkers.

Mybalconyiscracking · 16/08/2021 19:34

I tend to clean my doorstep and wipe my keys at the same time…

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 16/08/2021 19:34

What is it with the “how often do you clean”
questions today?!

Youcunnyfunt · 16/08/2021 19:36

Grin I thought maybe you were one of my neighbours watching me this weekend. Every couple of months. I'm North facing so moss and dust gets blown into my porch. Plus bloody spiders.
A lot of houses on my street very clearly don't clean their porch, doorstep, or house fronts, or even the front gardens. Some are bloody awful. I like my house to be tidy, inside and out.

ShinyMe · 16/08/2021 19:41

I've lived here 21 years and have never cleaned the door step! I did once kick some grass cuttings off it though, when the strimmer went a bit mad.

Tereseta · 16/08/2021 19:44

I never have but I live in a Northern terraced street and many people do daily, usually with the mop water after doing their floors.
You can tell the houses that do as the paving slabs are lighter. I have a dark pavement of shame outside mine Grin
It's bloody annoying in the winter though as there are random ice patches where the water freezes

Samanabanana · 16/08/2021 19:45

I have never cleaned a doorstep Grin

MissDollyMix · 16/08/2021 19:45

We don’t have a door step (probably as a result of the front door being moved 3 times by previous owners of our house!) We do however have a decent door mat on both sides of the door. Inside door mat gets vacuumed most days and shoes are taken off in the house so I think that covers the ‘not getting dirt inside the house’ part! Can’t say I ever cleaned out doorstep when we lived in our old house and did have one to be honest.

00100001 · 16/08/2021 19:46

You clean your outside step EVERY DAY???

Antinerak · 16/08/2021 19:46

I sweep it with the broom when I'm doing the path a couple of times a week but can't say I clean it? I clean the inside hallway bit every day if that's what you mean?

00100001 · 16/08/2021 19:46

@00100001

You clean your outside step EVERY DAY???
I mean..what's the point? Where do you stop? Just the step? Or do you also include the oath leading up to the step? Because that's just as dirty, surely?
Goodthings · 16/08/2021 19:47

I do it every day as it’s white and new!

MotionActivatedDog · 16/08/2021 19:48

It only counts if you have it done before 10am. After that and you’re the talk of the wash house.

EatSprayGlove · 16/08/2021 19:50

Me never but my DH is not from the UK and thinks that it should be done weekly. The compromise is he does it once or twice a year. It is obsessive cleanliness when we visit his country in houses I find with no one coming anywhere near the front door with shoes on whereas in the UK my cleanest friend has shoes on in the house. Horses for courses.

tiredanddangerous · 16/08/2021 19:50

I can honestly say that in all my 40 years I have never cleaned a door step.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/08/2021 19:51

I am 48 years old and I have never cleaned a doorstep.

My neighbour hoses down her entire path several times a week and has two doormats, one at the gate because you have to wipe your feet before entering her garden and then a second one when you get to the door and a third on entering the house. I've been in clean rooms with fewer layers of dirt removal.

I like to think that, between us, we average out at a sensible and achievable level of cleanliness.

VanGoghsDog · 16/08/2021 19:52

I don't have a doorstep, I have put a coir mat outside the front door. I've lived here four years and I've swept the drive twice in that time.
