AIBU or should DH LTB - Scone disagreement

DH has gone to the shop and bought some clotted cream to go with my homemade scones.

I’ve served them without also making tea. He is outraged as whenever he prepares a meal or snack I get ‘full service’.

This is entirely true. He’s a foodie of the highest order and I always get a variety of trimmings and extras - he deals with all general food administration. I am LAZY and cannot be fagged with all the faffery.

He has said if I asked here I would be deemed entirely unreasonable for not providing tea (and a small round of ham sandwiches) with our afternoon tea.

YANBU - you made the scones from SCRATCH - he can do the tea if he wants some

YABU - if you serve scones you serve tea you heathen

THIS IS OBVIOUSLY LIGHTHEARTED

YABU for not putting jam on them too.

CanofCant · 16/08/2021 17:02

Ooh, as much as it pains me to say, YABU! Was there jam at least?

Hekatestorch · 16/08/2021 17:03

Yeah. Yabu. Definitely 🤣

MoonlightWanderer · 16/08/2021 17:03

I was also worried about the jam. I wouldn't have scones without cream, but I'd probably skip the sandwiches.

MoonlightWanderer · 16/08/2021 17:04

Also scones are quite easy to make.

MurielSpriggs · 16/08/2021 17:06

Jam is a matter of no consequence, but if either of you says "sconn" then that person is unreasonable and appalling and must be cast out from polite society.

TheChild · 16/08/2021 17:06

You lovingly made delicious scones, from SCRATCH.

Direct him to the kettle and then scoff all the scones, the ungrateful so and so!

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 17:06

Sorry - OBVIOUSLY there’s jam - we already had jam.

He’s currently making some sandwiches and a plate of pickles and cheese.

@MurielSpriggs

We are a ‘scone rhymes with bone’ in this house. No fear.

You've won me back to side YANBU then. 😂
Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 17:08

Er @MoonlightWanderer I had to weigh out the ingredients and EVERYTHING

But that's the proper way to say it Hmm Wink
Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 17:09

He’s also done a soft drink.

Sorry! You are right of course. 😔

I'm very relieved to hear about the jam.

Shock

FFS! I thought this thread was supposed to be lighthearted! I'm going to have to go and find something in the cupboard along the lines of a sconn but obviously not as good just to get through the next hour. This is not how my Monday was supposed to go Sad

DogFoodPie · 16/08/2021 17:12

I've voted yabu for not providing tea, we are British you know! Sandwiches I am not bothered about though, I'd rather have an extra scone.

Blueberrycreampie · 16/08/2021 17:13

Don't know how you could eat scones without tea tbh. It's like sausage without mash, fish without chips, bacon sarnie without brown sauce ( sub tomato if you must!)

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 17:13

@Orgasmagorical

I literally typed that and DH said ‘do you want another sconn?’

We are now trying to remember how we usually say it 😬

Can you nip to Coop for some cake!

Good god - literally barbaric. Please seek redemption and try again tomorrow

thevassal · 16/08/2021 17:14

voted YABU for no tea - as in a cup of - but he is BU by going tok far the other way - expecting sandwiches, cheeses, pickles and a soft drink - scones are a snack to be enjoyed as an elevenses/mid afternoon pick me up not an invitation to create an extra two course meal!

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 17:16

@thevassal

I kid you not this man is obsessed with food.

OP posts:
ApolloandDaphne · 16/08/2021 17:16

If you are in Scotland you are having a scon never a scown unless you are visiting Scone in which case you pronounce it Scoon.

LostThings · 16/08/2021 17:16

Oh no, you're going to start the sconn v scone debate now. It is 100% scone rhymes with bone btw. And YANBU.

MilduraS · 16/08/2021 17:18

Or scone rhymes with cone to make it even more obvious that it's right...

Palavah · 16/08/2021 17:20

It's not polite society if you pronounce it wrongly, dear.
