AIBU or should DH LTB - Scone disagreement

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 16:59

DH has gone to the shop and bought some clotted cream to go with my homemade scones.

I’ve served them without also making tea. He is outraged as whenever he prepares a meal or snack I get ‘full service’.

This is entirely true. He’s a foodie of the highest order and I always get a variety of trimmings and extras - he deals with all general food administration. I am LAZY and cannot be fagged with all the faffery.

He has said if I asked here I would be deemed entirely unreasonable for not providing tea (and a small round of ham sandwiches) with our afternoon tea.

YANBU - you made the scones from SCRATCH - he can do the tea if he wants some

YABU - if you serve scones you serve tea you heathen

THIS IS OBVIOUSLY LIGHTHEARTED

My husband is like that. A wonderful cook.
In 35 years I've only ever made toast.
I applaud your scone making!

beela · 16/08/2021 17:42

I was on your dh's side, until I heard about the jam on first. Shocking.

fringeneedsatrim · 16/08/2021 17:46

You've clearly fucked up by baking in the first place ... this is not 1950... no women should ever bake scones for their husbands or it means that you're anti feminist and hate your fellow women. AND he wants tea?!!!! Cheeky fucker. He clearly only sees you as an object to fulfil his crazy whims. Patio the bastard immediately!

Then bring the scones (to rhyme with bones) along with jam and cream to me immediately Grin

whatdoidonowffs · 16/08/2021 17:47

Cream first ??? Thats grounds for him to divorce you

Seashor · 16/08/2021 17:48

The only way to serve them is cream on first, jam and a glass of English sparkling white, champagne or cava. Absolutely gorgeous.

burritofan · 16/08/2021 17:49

Team sconn over here, otherwise “What’s the fastest cake in the world? Scone!” makes no sense.

I do hope the jam was homemade, too, otherwise you may as well just set fire to the cake stand and shit on it for good measure.

PattyPan · 16/08/2021 17:55

Depends if you also made the jam from scratch Wink

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 18:01

Jam is Sainsbury’s because as I said earlier I’m very lazy.

Hmmmm. Sparkling wine 🤔

YABU for not disclosing whether you put the jam or cream on first.

I only opened the thread to tell you to LTB if he put the cream on first. I think it is automatic grounds for a quickie divorce.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 16/08/2021 18:05
@Flamglimglubberty

Well. I’m cream first. He’s jam. This makes me irrationally irritated.
OMG he should be getting his ducks in a row and packing your bags!!!!

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 18:07

Ok. He’s upstairs packing. He’s heeded the collective wisdom and is moving to the local Travelodge.

If he takes the kids I might call it a win…

I've just googled the pronunciation, someone has produced a colour-coded map of the British Isles showing how pronunciation varies. Apparently people in Ireland pronounce it to ryhme with "bone", but those in Northern Ireland pronounce it Sconn, as do the Scottish, and those in North Wales. The area where English people usually pronounce it to rhyme with "bone" is from Stock-on-Trent to Kingston upon Hull. Essex appears to lean that way too. In most of the rest of England and Wales there appears to be an even mix of both pronunciations, but leaning slightly more towards "sconn" .

I'm afraid he might find travelodge not quite up to his foodie standards maybe do what the did on The Grand Tour and just rock up to the nearest Castle.

RaininSummer · 16/08/2021 18:15

Very U I am afraid as tea is essential with scones as far too claggy without

Toddlerteaplease · 16/08/2021 18:21

@MurielSpriggs

Jam is a matter of no consequence, but if either of you says "sconn" then that person is unreasonable and appalling and must be cast out from polite society.
Too right!! It's a sconE.
burritofan · 16/08/2021 18:24

What flavour jam was it?

Peanutsandchilli · 16/08/2021 18:39

Scones at 5pm would need the works (sandwiches and tea) because it's a proper mealtime. Scones at 3pm and you can just have a scone (or two!)

And it's pronounced cone with an s on the beginning. Exactly how it's spelled.

drumandthebass · 16/08/2021 18:45

Sconn, sconn, sconn, sconn, sconn

Tell me you didn't put the jam on before the cream Angry?

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 16/08/2021 18:46

For the love of God where is the butter??
Butter
Jam
Clotted cream
On the SCONN
With either tea or coffee and hopefully some crisps, cheese, crackers, pickles please.
I'll be round in 10 minutes 😁

BlindMedusa · 16/08/2021 18:47

Thinking about the Scone (Sconn) I had Saturday morning with a cup of tea that I had with just butter .... not jam nor cream grabs rosary beads and slinks off to Confession

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 18:50

Ok.

It was raspberry jam

I’m cream first. He’s jam first. He’s wrong.

I thought that was dinner but I’ve come down from bathing the toddler and he’s got sautéed potatoes on the go and some chicken in a pan…

If he doesn't serve a drink with it, please please please ask where the cup of tea is Grin

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2021 18:57
