Who is being unreasonable? Found a kitten in garden.

I know this should go in the litter tray but posting for traffic before our guest disappears as we don’t know what to do!

Kitten is a female, looks around the age where you would buy one but I didn’t think they are supposed to be running around outside yet. She’s currently playing with my bemused old rescue cats tail in the garden.

Dh thinks we should just leave them to find their way home. He thinks it’s the feckless estates couple who keep buying animals then chucking them outside.

I think we should bring them in and call the local vets to check whose they are. We live on a very busy main road, lots of dogs around (and a neighbours cat has been killed previously).

It’s such a young cat I’m worried it could easily get killed running around loose and I think there is a frantic owner somewhere.

What should we do?

If it is that small you should bring it in, no way should it be out and I cant imagine at that age it will find its way home, and besides it is too dangerous for it to be wandering around.

StylishMummy · 10/08/2021 10:48

I'd bring it in and get a vet check. If chipped then it's an easy answer, if not... do you want a new kitten? Grin

PugInTheHouse · 10/08/2021 10:48

And I would take to vets to be scanned or contact your local cat rescue charity as they usually have people with scanners.

Hathertonhariden · 10/08/2021 10:48

Do you have a local Facebook page you could post to before doing anything else?

30degreesandmeltinghere · 10/08/2021 10:49

Congratulations on being The Chosen One...
Get it checked at the vet for a chip. If not enjoy your new addition!

Deathsquito · 10/08/2021 10:50

Ok, I’ve brought them inside and put down some water. They are happily still playing with old rescue cat so I’ll check the local Facebook pages first. If not anything there I could call the vets and see if there is a microchip?

You are right. Bring it in and call the vet.

Soubriquet · 10/08/2021 10:53

It’s a tiny baby. Of course you bring it in

Ask around to see if anyone has lost a kitten (and get them to describe it, don’t assume it’s instantly theirs). No answer, enjoy your new kitten

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/08/2021 10:58

You're both being unreasonable. Bring it in and enjoy being a new kitten owner!

You've done the right thing bringing it inside. Teeny kittens shouldn't be outside.

ShitPoetryClub · 10/08/2021 10:59

Is it one kitten or several?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 10/08/2021 10:59

It's probably not chipped yet. Most people do it when they get them neutered.

PugInTheHouse · 10/08/2021 11:00

Kittens are mostly chipped before they go to their new owners so it should be chipped already

PugInTheHouse · 10/08/2021 11:01

Although it could be younger than that?

YABU to not include a photo though Grin

Deathsquito · 10/08/2021 11:21

Ok I’ve popped an ad on the local lost pet pages, didn’t include a photo and will be asking for a picture/description. The local vets said they will check for a microchip if we get no joy by the end of the day.

I’d love to keep her, but she’s adorable and litter trained so I’m sure she’s loved already.

Obligatory pictures (forgive the house, I was mid clean when she turned up!)

Super cute

EL8888 · 10/08/2021 11:24

She’s too cute!!!

MrsFin · 10/08/2021 11:27

What's with the "them" and "they"?

But I agree - take it in. I'd wait and see if someone comes looking for it - maybe check the local FB page

DeflatedGinDrinker · 10/08/2021 11:28

Looks huge I was picturing a little kitten whose not old enough to be out 🙈 that kitten looks fine probably on one of its first adventures.

Thefaceofboe · 10/08/2021 11:29

My kittens were probably out around that age but it’s better to be safe than sorry Smile

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 10/08/2021 11:29

It’s probably an outdoor cat learning to explore and you just kidnapped it!

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 10/08/2021 11:30

That's how I ended up with our now 13 year old fluffball! Walked to park one day got followed by a kitten who kept going in near misses with cars - was worried she would get hurt so scooped her up and took her to cat rescue place round the corner. They scanned her and no chip so advised me to take her home for safety and try to find her owners. After a week no sign of her being claimed after 2 weeks very obvious signs of her being pregnant - she was 4 months old!

So I either stole someone's cat or she chose me!

TheGenealogist · 10/08/2021 11:31

Neither option.

I would not be bringing an animal into the house. I would stick it in a cardboard box and sent oldest DS to walk to the vets with it, 5 minutes away.

Leave at vets. Their problem to deal with.

BettysGotMoxie · 10/08/2021 11:31

Awww she’s so perdy!
