Who is being unreasonable? Found a kitten in garden.

I know this should go in the litter tray but posting for traffic before our guest disappears as we don’t know what to do!

Kitten is a female, looks around the age where you would buy one but I didn’t think they are supposed to be running around outside yet. She’s currently playing with my bemused old rescue cats tail in the garden.

Dh thinks we should just leave them to find their way home. He thinks it’s the feckless estates couple who keep buying animals then chucking them outside.

I think we should bring them in and call the local vets to check whose they are. We live on a very busy main road, lots of dogs around (and a neighbours cat has been killed previously).

It’s such a young cat I’m worried it could easily get killed running around loose and I think there is a frantic owner somewhere.

What should we do?

Size comparison with my normal size cat!

Awww, 11 weeks old is so tiny and definitely far far too young to be outside alone; many breeders and rescues wouldn’t even separate a kitten from the mum until 12 weeks old.

Well done for doing the right thing and bringing her in to somewhere safe and for not listening to all the mumsnetters trying to convince you she was just a small adult cat and to shove her back outside!

Notdoingthis · 10/08/2021 13:58

That cat is beigger than mine. Mine are chipped, vaccinated and neutered and will soon be allowed out.

BIWI · 10/08/2021 13:58

Glad you've found its owner!

Notdoingthis · 10/08/2021 13:59

Glad you found the owner.

Are your cats 11/12 weeks old though?

GuppytheCat · 10/08/2021 14:03

They do get through the tiniest of gaps at that age, and have absolutely zero common sense.

For those saying that a caring owner would have been ringing round the vets -- you don't always think of that when you're still outside frantically searching under every bush.

Our local Facebook groups are full of posts about cats that have been let out by their owners, gone missing and now have worried sick owners and if you see it, please take it in.

Then there are posts about cats that have been found and taken in.

Then there are posts about cats that are not lost and please will people stop finding their cat and taking it in.

I don't get it, but the amount of cat shit in my garden makes me feel very uncharitably towards cat owners.

This isn't a car shit thread. Go find one of those to berate cat owners on
sashh · 10/08/2021 14:11

Ow glad it's a happy ending.

I was going to post this, I know there is no need now but hey it's a cat. Not a very good pic of the cat or my decorating skills but she's sitting on a tissue box.

I thought she was about 6 months when she arrived but the vet estimated she was about a year.

Apparently if they have kittens early then they stop growing and I'm not sure an unneutered cat would get to a year without pregnancy.

Crunchymum · 10/08/2021 14:11

Naughty, naughty wee Kiera, but yay for a happy ending.

Doomscrolling · 10/08/2021 14:15

Glad Keira is home with her family!

LysistrataVickers · 10/08/2021 14:17

Aw well done OP. I hope someone like you would find and look after my cat if she was lost very unlikely as she's old and lazy and goes no further than the back garden

Chaotica · 10/08/2021 14:18

Aw. Well done, OP. I'm glad she's home safely.

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 10/08/2021 14:19

Lovely ending! What a cute kitten too! Our kitten is 5 months old and not huge.

LizzieW1969 · 10/08/2021 14:21

She’s so cute. I’m really glad there’s a happy ending to the story and that the kitten has been reunited with her owners. Smile

NotMyCat · 10/08/2021 14:27

Bless her
My friend got a new kitten by her cat bringing one home and dumping it on her bed at 4am Blush it was tiny and very feral
Her cat was "here, have this" and then sodded off outside again while she was WTF why is there a kitten on my bed Grin

I always imagine the cat shit posters being the siblings of the poo trolls.

My brother died after a drunk driver killed him on the pavement and left him to die in front of his friends. Are there any other comments you'd like to make about him?

Christmasfairy2020 · 10/08/2021 14:50

Facebook and vets wouldn't let her out

overnightangel · 10/08/2021 15:06

@Deathsquito

Oh go on then, one more Grin

FlyingRabbitsAtNoon · 10/08/2021 15:09

I'm just popping a comment here for the cat pics Smile

Hoppinggreen · 10/08/2021 15:11

@TheGenealogist

Neither option.

I would not be bringing an animal into the house. I would stick it in a cardboard box and sent oldest DS to walk to the vets with it, 5 minutes away.

Leave at vets. Their problem to deal with.

It’s really not Vets aren’t animal sanctuaries
