I know this should go in the litter tray but posting for traffic before our guest disappears as we don’t know what to do!

Kitten is a female, looks around the age where you would buy one but I didn’t think they are supposed to be running around outside yet. She’s currently playing with my bemused old rescue cats tail in the garden.

Dh thinks we should just leave them to find their way home. He thinks it’s the feckless estates couple who keep buying animals then chucking them outside.

I think we should bring them in and call the local vets to check whose they are. We live on a very busy main road, lots of dogs around (and a neighbours cat has been killed previously).

It’s such a young cat I’m worried it could easily get killed running around loose and I think there is a frantic owner somewhere.

What should we do?

Please don't assume she's your's - I'm sure you wouldn't.

My boy - Slippy by name, slippy by nature - was a real escape artist, was desperate to get out and as we got him during lock down the vet was not able to spay and chip him till he was 6 months old! It was a nightmare trying to keep him in!

This little one could have a loving home and a little girl desperately upset waiting for her as mine was.

Soubriquet · 12/08/2021 12:36

Read the update….she’s gone home to her owners which the OP found

goose1964 · 12/08/2021 12:44

I'm glad she's back with her owners (or should that be slaves) it's horrible to lose a cat.

Bookloverjay · 12/08/2021 13:13

Aww she is so cute. Glad her owners have been located and she's now home.

Your cat seems really chilled, I think he deserves a treat Grin I was hoping to see a photo of him.

Yorkshiretolondon · 12/08/2021 13:41

@TheGenealogist

Neither option.

I would not be bringing an animal into the house. I would stick it in a cardboard box and sent oldest DS to walk to the vets with it, 5 minutes away.

Leave at vets. Their problem to deal with.

Wow bit harsh Since when is it the vets problem…..

You can log it with local RSPCA and Cats Protection as these are usually the first places people phone when their cat goes missing.
I isn't a very young cat probably 5-6 months old as from the picture it looks quite well grown.
Also worth doing some posters and pinning them up locally (don't put a picture of the cat though). If you get a reply ask them to describe the cat.

We had a similar situation with a dog running loose near the main road, (didn't want to take it to the dog pound, & RSPCA & local dog rescues were full). We logged it with the police & rescue centres and got a call the next day from the owners.

Monestera · 12/08/2021 14:40

You can log it with local RSPCA and Cats Protection Why would you do this?? Why would either of these organisations entertain the idea?

I isn't a very young cat probably 5-6 months old as from the picture it looks quite well grown. Why would you think this??

Also worth doing some posters and pinning them up locally (don't put a picture of the cat though) Again, why would you do this??

cannockcandy · 14/08/2021 19:03

She's adorable and I'm glad you took her in and took her to the vets.
I had a similar situation with two kittens and I deeply regret not taking them in as not even a week later they were both run over. The owner said, and I quote "they shouldn't have shat on the floor, they'll learn to stay away from cars". This was after us having them in our house twice, once when the weather was horrific and once on bonfire night!

Nigglenaggle · 14/08/2021 21:36

Leave the goddamn cat alone, catnapper!

Ddot · 14/08/2021 23:15

What is wrong with you people, op took a small kitten in and then found its owner. WTF is wrong with that if my little one ever got lost I would hope and pray someone would do the same for her.
