Who is being unreasonable? Found a kitten in garden.

I know this should go in the litter tray but posting for traffic before our guest disappears as we don’t know what to do!

Kitten is a female, looks around the age where you would buy one but I didn’t think they are supposed to be running around outside yet. She’s currently playing with my bemused old rescue cats tail in the garden.

Dh thinks we should just leave them to find their way home. He thinks it’s the feckless estates couple who keep buying animals then chucking them outside.

I think we should bring them in and call the local vets to check whose they are. We live on a very busy main road, lots of dogs around (and a neighbours cat has been killed previously).

It’s such a young cat I’m worried it could easily get killed running around loose and I think there is a frantic owner somewhere.

What should we do?

It sounds as if little Keira was lonely and wanted a friend.

CambsAlways · 11/08/2021 17:29

She’s very cute, I hope you find the owner soon

tired100 · 11/08/2021 17:37

We had a collar made with our number on it for a kitten who often turned up in our garden, hungry. Received an irate phone call message but knew the kitten was owned and it’s owners wanted us to leave it out! That kitten looks about the same age so, if all else fails …

ShallWeStartTheMeeting · 11/08/2021 17:38

My kitten managed to escape the first day we got him.
I thought he was hiding somewhere in the house, was shaking the cat toy with Bell that was running to all morning, without any luck.
Eventually found him in the back garden, looking rather scared.
So glad Kiera is home!

I'm glad she's been reunited with her slave owner. Smile

Catsandallthingscrazy · 11/08/2021 18:14

Has she got a clipped up patch on her left flank area ? Or any clipped areas on tops of her front legs ? She looks about 5-6 months old to me and could easily be someone's pet if she's been spayed recently ?

BIWI · 11/08/2021 18:24

Have you bothered to read the thread? The OP found her owner yesterday!

MrsMop1964 · 11/08/2021 18:26

the only thing I got when I once took in a kitten for the weekend before getting it to the vet's was a case of ringworm!

cloudyrain · 11/08/2021 18:33

So pleased for the happy end to this tale. This is why I have always tried to rehome/adopt my cats in the winter as there is little chance of a window or door being open.

I get the neighbour's lad knowing people, I have a DD like that as a child she seemed to know everyone through school, friends and clubs, and if she didn't she would know someone who did. My DSis is very similar and an ideal person to have to call on in these circumstances

ThinWomansBrain · 11/08/2021 18:41

forgive the house, I was mid clean when she turned up! Lots more to explore then Grin
She looks adorable - the Vet should have been able to give you an approximate age. When I got mine, the Vet was convinced that she was around seven weeks rather than eight.

ThinWomansBrain · 11/08/2021 18:44

just rtft - glad she's reunited with her family

LittleMissPlant · 11/08/2021 18:49

If a couple keep getting animals and kicking them out then you need to call the RSPCA and report them for neglect.

Your husband is an a**

@DeflatedGinDrinker

Looks huge I was picturing a little kitten whose not old enough to be out 🙈 that kitten looks fine probably on one of its first adventures.
That’s what I thought lol. My neighbour has one, similar colouring and looks smaller. He lets him out, but we aren’t near a busy road.
TableFlowerss · 11/08/2021 19:50

@WorkingItOutAsIGo

It’s probably an outdoor cat learning to explore and you just kidnapped it!
🤣🤣 god that made me giggle
Greystray · 11/08/2021 19:52

Leave at vets. Their problem to deal with.

Just to say to anyone who may find a cat in future and read this comment - please do not do this. A vet is not an animal sanctuary Hmm

VanGoSunflowers · 11/08/2021 20:04

@Deathsquito

I’m happy to report that garden kitten (who is called Keira) has been reunited with a very relieved family!

The mum had been desperately trying to find her since she secretly slipped out around 8am! She hadn’t thought to search houses/gardens across the main road because she thought the kitten could never get over it in one piece. She cried saying she was so scared she’d be dead somewhere at the side of a road.

And Keira is 11 weeks old, they fetched her last week.

Thank you everyone who helped us do the right thing! Think our old cat is relieved to be able to nap in peace again 😂

Yay Smile

I'm so pleased that Keira has been reunited with her family. She's very pretty.

Birchtree1 · 11/08/2021 20:33

I am a vet and I have taken on 2 cats who where found and nobody claimed them. One was really lame and another needed all their teeth taken out. We have had first one for 2 years and 2nd one for 10 years.
I’d take it to the vets or ask some advice from rescues!

RubyFlint · 11/08/2021 20:52

Aw can we just post photos of our kitties

Not sure why you would want to put it in a litter tray, but you could offer it one and see if it will use it I suppose. It may just be old enough to be outside now but better to be safe than sorry.

AlwaysLatte · 11/08/2021 22:41

Sorry just seen your update!

AlwaysLatte · 11/08/2021 22:42

And I've just realised what you meant about the litter tray!

Localocal · 11/08/2021 23:19

Please take it to the vet to be scanned. It will certainly have a chip and the owners will want to know where it is.

Mamanyt · 12/08/2021 00:47

Insofar as I am concerned, always, always act in the best interests of the animals, and if this kitten is young, you should definitely bring it it, take it to the vet, and attempt to locate the owners. Failing locating them, get a cat rescue involved and find a responsible, loving home for that kitten if you cannot keep it.

Ddot · 12/08/2021 06:02

Sooo cute, kitten hero
