Just had to sit through one of his shows with my mum, who really likes him. There's something about his tone of voice, vocabulary choices and even the styling of the cooking programme that makes me want to tear my hair out.

I'm sure he's a nice enough man, but he comes across as a smarmy, self-satisfied twat. Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this!

I saw one of his programmes, he said “I’d be happy with that, for my tea” it was about tomatoes on toast. It looked lush, and I love tomatoes on toast. But I felt stabby as he said it. It was his tone and facial expression.

I still watch him as some of his recipes look fabulous, I just sometimes wish he would shut up.

mrsbyers · 03/08/2021 17:06

Hideous

NoYOUbekind · 03/08/2021 17:06

@CatMumsw

I'll have to look at his recipes, as so many of you seem to rate them. Not having to listen to him will help.

I've just realised that he reminds me of a lad I lived with during my first year at Uni, who turned out to be the biggest dickhead, so that may be souring my feelings towards Nige.

The key is to not watch him on the telly. His books and recipes are fantastic.
MaliceOrgan · 03/08/2021 17:07

I love him. His food is lovely and the recipes are relaxed and unbossy.

He comes across as quite shy which makes me like him more.

I much prefer his style of food and presenting to that of Gordon Ramsay or James Martin or the Pioneer Woman

Emotionalfuckwit · 03/08/2021 17:08

He's a smug bastard. His clearing the fridge before shopping recipe and he has a fucking whole salmon or something in there. And when he pretends he's never tried a recipe before and it's worked perfectly the first time and he's filming it 🤬

Why doesn't he try making something delicious out of some questionable potatoes and wafer thin ham that has seen better days at the back of the fridge - then I'll be impressed

Hemingwaycat · 03/08/2021 17:08

He’s the only chef I actually like. Loved the BBC programme a few years ago about his childhood, ‘Toast’ I think.

CarpeVitam · 03/08/2021 17:09

@SummerHouse

Imagine having sex with him.
Isn't he gay?
simbobs · 03/08/2021 17:11

Sorry, I'm on Team Nigel. I really like him and his approach to cooking.

tothelakes · 03/08/2021 17:11

I love him and find him very soothing to watch. I could listen to him talk all day about any old shit.
He's very gentle too, I love that.

fairislecable · 03/08/2021 17:11

YABU - he is lovely. His recipes always work out, without excessive and weird condiments. Very practical.
There is no swearing shouting or posturing.
His book Toast was so well written.

I’d go to his place for dinner anytime

potter5 · 03/08/2021 17:14

Love him. Thought he was married to Joan Potter.

NeedNewKnees · 03/08/2021 17:15

His recipes are wonderful - his recipe books are ones we've used for decades. Sensible, no cheffy nonsense, pragmatic and reliable.

I agree with fusspot and old hen; he comes across like that on telly. But his writing is great and I eat meals from his books every week.

MushMonster · 03/08/2021 17:15

Good cook. Nice food. Nice environment.
I want to run in the other direction when he starts speaking!
I cannot really say why, but I cannot stand his voice.
He seems to be a marmite type.

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/08/2021 17:16

I love him.

Lottapianos · 03/08/2021 17:16

I agree he's not a telly natural. He's a fabulous writer though, truly adores food, and seems like a lovely person. I'm a big fan

No idea what the comment about having sex with him has got to do with the price of eggs Confused

@GreenestValley

Some low key homophobia here...
Nah there's not

Even thinking about his TV programme makes me feel a bit urgh and I haven't actually seen any of it for a long long time.

His hair always looks like it needs a good wash. Yuck.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 03/08/2021 17:21

This thread is really cruel. You can not like him without picking apart his appearance.

DDiva · 03/08/2021 17:21

I've always said this. There are few programs or people I refuse to watch but he is my main one !

SilverBirchWithout · 03/08/2021 17:21

I haven’t felt the same about him after reading his autobiography. He killed his pet guinea pig as a child because it was a gift from his despised step-mother 😱

FrownedUpon · 03/08/2021 17:21

He seems like a lovely, gentle, intelligent man. Unlike some other chefs (Tom Kerridge).

burritofan · 03/08/2021 17:22

Isn’t he gay?
I think gay people still have sex.

I love Nigel. With his bloody gorgeous house and fancy garden, and his tiny recipes that leave me starving and in need of a bowl of chips.

WhatsMyNameGonnaBeNow · 03/08/2021 17:22

I really like him, I find him very calm and soothing. Also, he looks and sounds a lot like someone I worked with years ago who I was very fond of so that works in his favour for me.

Wishes2020 · 03/08/2021 17:24

Imaging being this upset just because a man exists.

NiceGerbil · 03/08/2021 17:25

I got his roast chicken book years ago. V good.

I like his recipes style simplicity etc but I'm not keen on his presenting. At least he's not Tom kerridge though who once said said something on his prog that pissed me off so much I avoid him. And if DH is watching or he suddenly appears I go off on a expletive filled rant Grin
