To think Laurel Hubbard should not be competing against other women

I know I am going to get ripped apart for this. Smile

I have no problem with the transgender community, that is your life/body and I am not one to judge anyone else, do what makes you happy.

There is something fundamentally wrong about a person who is biologically a man competing against a woman in sport as significant as weightlifting.
I am not taking anything away from women weightlifters, however when competing in that sport, a person who was born a man will always have an unfair advantage over a woman.

I am all for equal rights but it seems political correctness has now put us in a position that we will only consider the equal rights of those in the transgender community. What happens to the equal rights of all the other women who have worked extremely hard to get to the olympics who should be competing against biological women.

There needs to be clearer cut criteria on entrance requirements to every sport, to give every person the equal rights they deserve.

My heart goes out to all the other women competing who I’m sure must be somewhat disheartened about their chances of success now they are competing against a biological man. Sad

@Foghead

I don’t understand how this was even allowed. It just seems a bit mad.

I recommend reading Helen Joyce's recent book on the huge damage done by trans activists (NOT transpeople - there is a huge difference between transmen and transwomen going about their daily lives, and the toxic lobby groups who are dominating the discourse).

It's been a long, slow drip over several decades, like boiling a frog.

cariadlet · 31/07/2021 10:10

@Sophoclesthefox

Has the voting been disabled? I can’t see the results.

I’m guessing it’s a landslide. Nobody -NOBODY- truly thinks Hubbard deserves to be there.

Are you using the app? I'm using the app on my phone and posted earlier but didn't even realise that there was a vote. I had to switch to the website to vote.
Currently 280 votes. 98% YNBU and 3% YBU
I wish some of those 3% would come on here and explain their reasoning.

'other women' Hmm

MattDamon · 31/07/2021 10:11

Partner's brother who is sports mad and coaches says it's waking up a lot of his male coach friends as to what's been happening.

Eyesofdisarray · 31/07/2021 10:11

YANBU
but you are BU to say other women
And maybe the subject will get more sunlight on AIBU?? That's not unreasonable.
Maybe a bit like Freddie Mercury bringing ballet to the masses God bless him 😊

Hubbard has the male biological advantage and also all the other advantages which accrue to a white, affluent male with a father who just happens to be in a senior position in the sport.

A poor minority woman has been shoved aside to make room for Laurel but she doesn't matter apparently.

However Hubbard is far from the only athlete in Tokyo with male body advantage, just the most well known.

@FurierTransform

Everyone suddenly agrees with this, but women on the whole have not been on the side of the (predominantly male) voices who have been pointing out how ridiculous this has been getting for years ...
What do you mean?
Beamur · 31/07/2021 10:12

This question should stay in AIBU and not be moved. Most of the readers of the feminist boards are aware of this person. This question is for a wider audience.

happydappy2 · 31/07/2021 10:12

Roviel Detenamu is the woman denied her rightful chance to compete, because LH has taken it. Even if they don't win its grossly unfair that a woman was excluded from her own sporting category to accommodate a male person.

Clarice99 · 31/07/2021 10:12

YANBU. LH is a biological male.

Sex matters. We need clear, defined sex based boundaries.

@Adirondack

Yanbu. And it’s gpod that you posted in Aibu as more women need to know that this kind of thing is going on. Threads like these should be brought into the light not just hidden away on a specialist board.
Completely agree with you and I hope MNHQ don't move this thread. It's is an important issue that deserves wider discussion.

I beg your pardon

Are you saying that women haven’t been complaining about this for years?

Have I misunderstood you?

Women have been complaining and being sacked and silenced for years!

korawick12345 · 31/07/2021 10:13

It’s an absolute disgrace. You only have to look at any of the mixed relays to see that although the men and women are all equally elite athletes at the absolute pinnacle of physical fitness they are clearly physically very different. I would guess the differences between male and female elite athletes are actually greater than the differences between ‘average’ men and women. The mixed swimming relay was such a good illustration that despite training just as hard and in a very similar way the women are unable to develop the same level of upper body musculature as the men. The two women in the team looked tiny next to the guys!

Jorriss · 31/07/2021 10:13

Men should not be competing in the female categories, no matter how those males identify. It's cheating, it takes a place away from a woman who has worked hard for that place, and it's deeply misogynistic and disrespectful. Women are supposed to politely step back whilst the males step in and beat them in the womens category?
The advantage is blindingly obvious. Men have no place in women's sport. Absolutely fuck that shit.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 31/07/2021 10:14

I don't think you have been listening very hard..

Or at all

CaptSkippy · 31/07/2021 10:14

I would not call this situation "politically correct". In fact, I'd call it decidedly politically incorrect. It is just downright unfair and an abuse of privilege on Hubbard's part.

ArabellaScott · 31/07/2021 10:14

Completely agree with you and I hope MNHQ don't move this thread. It's is an important issue that deserves wider discussion.

Yep. It all needs discussed; that's all women have been asking for for years. But for some reason there are a small but very vociferous coterie of people who are INCENSED when women try to talk about it. I wonder why?

Bryonyshcmyony · 31/07/2021 10:15

@Potteringshed

YABU to post here when there is a whole board for these conversations.
Well I think you will find after Monday thst this conversation will be very much mainstream

And about time too

Carriemac · 31/07/2021 10:15

It's cheating and very sexist

Katjolo · 31/07/2021 10:16

Agreed OP. Absolute madness!

DrSbaitso · 31/07/2021 10:16

@MNHQ, please don't move the thread. The Olympics are on, it's happening now. It's current affairs.

SteppedOnBloodyLego · 31/07/2021 10:16

There are a growing number of mediocre males cheating their way to medals now

Sums it up.

Have you been living under a rock? Women have been fighting against this for years. And ignored. Maybe you ignored women too.
