To think Laurel Hubbard should not be competing against other women

I know I am going to get ripped apart for this. Smile

I have no problem with the transgender community, that is your life/body and I am not one to judge anyone else, do what makes you happy.

There is something fundamentally wrong about a person who is biologically a man competing against a woman in sport as significant as weightlifting.
I am not taking anything away from women weightlifters, however when competing in that sport, a person who was born a man will always have an unfair advantage over a woman.

I am all for equal rights but it seems political correctness has now put us in a position that we will only consider the equal rights of those in the transgender community. What happens to the equal rights of all the other women who have worked extremely hard to get to the olympics who should be competing against biological women.

There needs to be clearer cut criteria on entrance requirements to every sport, to give every person the equal rights they deserve.

My heart goes out to all the other women competing who I’m sure must be somewhat disheartened about their chances of success now they are competing against a biological man. Sad

@Taliskerskye

if your are mtf to have to have certain rules in place before you can compete with women

If you are ftm then you can compete with men, no restrictions at all.

What does that say

The rules are that you must get your testosterone levels down to a point that's still about twice as much as ever recorded in a natal woman, and would get a natal woman disqualified for doping.
YouMadeABear · 31/07/2021 09:50

Laurel Hubbard should not be competing against women, no. Laurel Hubbard's presence there means a woman has missed out on a chance to compete. It's a total joke but not a very funny one.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 31/07/2021 09:50

This is the first year where GB have sent more females to the Olympics than males yet one of the medal winners had to crowdfund her own expenses as the funding for the female team was removed

Someone told me this yesterday

Fucking disgusting, I honestly and truly don’t know how (some) people can say we have equality when this shit is being pulled

reprehensibleme · 31/07/2021 09:51

You only had to watch the mixed 400m relay yesterday to know that makes have no place in female sports.

reprehensibleme · 31/07/2021 09:52

males not makes

@YouMadeABear

Not just a woman, but underprivileged Maori women who overcame so much adversity to get where they are.

Ditched for a privileged white male person who competed in the correct sex class until she aged out of it. And now, middle aged and fresh from an injury, is still a worthy contender against women half her age. Because she's male. And there are times when that matters.

Such a fucking cheating disgrace.

rattusrattus20 · 31/07/2021 09:53

this chart shows the age distribution amongst Olympic medal winners at the last four sets of games.

I take my hat off to Ms Hubbard for being a credible medal contender at the age of 43, breaking the mould like that really takes some balls.

To think Laurel Hubbard should not be competing against other women
trumpisagit · 31/07/2021 09:54

YANBU
The only fair way to divide people for sport is by biological sex.
Hopefully Laurel Hubbard's inclusion will highlight that.

dementedma · 31/07/2021 09:55

Yanbu. Good to see this on the main threads instead of hidden away on the feminist board

timeisnotaline · 31/07/2021 09:55

If you are a woman, and you specifically opened this thread to attempt to silence a woman concerned about women, be ashamed of yourselves.
So much this.

OneTC · 31/07/2021 09:56

breaking the mould like that really takes some balls.

actorbynight · 31/07/2021 09:56

Wow. This is the first time I've heard this story, but I'm glad it's on a popular board to draw due attention to it.

I don't get it. It's really unfair. If I was one of the other athletes competing against Laurel, who has an unfair advantage having gone through male puberty, I'd be really upset.

yourestandingonmyneck · 31/07/2021 09:56

Is there anybody here who thinks that this should be allowed?

I have never come across anybody who agrees with it and I would be interested to hear their argument. I can't for the life of me think of a single convincing argument for it.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 31/07/2021 09:56

YANBU unreasonable at all & the IOC are clearly nervous about how this is going to play out on the Olympic stage

I would not say “competing against other women”. Hubbard is not a woman, Hubbard is a TW

00100001 · 31/07/2021 09:57

The mad thing is Oscar Pestorious wasn't allowed to compete in the Olympics because it was declared his blades gave him an unfair advantage, so had to stay in the Paralympics. And even then the Paralympics are then segregated again, eg to the level of disability. (For a wild made up example) a 2 legged runner isn't allowed in the 1 legged running race.... because if unfair advantages....

But that's all swept aside in some sports,if you identify as a woman...you can have ten times the amount of testosterone, gone through male puberty etc... And that's Okay....

SirVixofVixHall · 31/07/2021 09:58

YADNBU mediocre middle aged male beating women in their twenties. It is a travesty.

Flapjak · 31/07/2021 09:58

LB is no more entering the competition fairly than all those athletes who use performance enhancers. They are exploiting a loophole in poor decision making based on inclusion rather than science.

NotBadConsidering · 31/07/2021 09:59

The testosterone rule is immaterial when you consider the only thing that makes Hubbard worthy of consideration for entry into the women’s competition is a feeling inside Hubbard’s head. That’s all it took, then the testosterone rule was fudged around that internal head feeling of Hubbard and other trans athletes. A feeling.

Hubbard comes from a very wealthy, white, privileged background in NZ. Hubbard has taken the place of a woman of colour, someone who can’t say she is an Olympian as a result. Regardless of where Hubbard places, every woman below on the final board will be one place lower than they should be. And the IOC, weightlifting organisations, and the New Zealand government just shrug and say “it’s the rules!” But it’s only the rules because the rules were created in such away that they ignore reality to cater for the internal feelings of males.

They should all be fucking ashamed.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/07/2021 09:59

Yanbu, absolutely ridiculous. So unfair.

TheGenealogist · 31/07/2021 09:59

Of course Laurel Hubbard should not be competing against women.

I hope all the major news channels cover this competition as many people who have no interest in gender/sex issues and who believe that transwomen are women may change their ideas a bit.

SirVixofVixHall · 31/07/2021 09:59

@yourestandingonmyneck

Is there anybody here who thinks that this should be allowed?

I have never come across anybody who agrees with it and I would be interested to hear their argument. I can't for the life of me think of a single convincing argument for it.

A friend says that lowering testosterone males male people “exactly the same “ as female people, and that they have no advantage. That is her “argument “ It is bollocks.
MadamBatty · 31/07/2021 10:00

Hubbard is not the only MtF in the olympics, there are more

We should all respect feelings & beliefs.

However science trumps feelings.

Born males have much higher muscle density, lung capacity & different skeletons to females,

Sophoclesthefox · 31/07/2021 10:00

YANBU, of course.

If the end goal truly is inclusion, then why aren’t we having conversations about how to introduce handicaps into men’s events so that transmen have a real chance of competing?

Maggiesfarm · 31/07/2021 10:00

I agree with you Belle.

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/07/2021 10:00

YANBU. But YABU to say other women. LH is a most certainly not a woman.
