To think Laurel Hubbard should not be competing against other women

I know I am going to get ripped apart for this. Smile

I have no problem with the transgender community, that is your life/body and I am not one to judge anyone else, do what makes you happy.

There is something fundamentally wrong about a person who is biologically a man competing against a woman in sport as significant as weightlifting.
I am not taking anything away from women weightlifters, however when competing in that sport, a person who was born a man will always have an unfair advantage over a woman.

I am all for equal rights but it seems political correctness has now put us in a position that we will only consider the equal rights of those in the transgender community. What happens to the equal rights of all the other women who have worked extremely hard to get to the olympics who should be competing against biological women.

There needs to be clearer cut criteria on entrance requirements to every sport, to give every person the equal rights they deserve.

My heart goes out to all the other women competing who I’m sure must be somewhat disheartened about their chances of success now they are competing against a biological man. Sad

Agree with you 100%

Witchesbelazy · 31/07/2021 10:01

What bothers me as well is if Laurel doesn’t win it will be oh ok that’s that it’s fair for biological males to complete in female sport crack on, when it’s not.

ElliottSmithsfingers · 31/07/2021 10:01

It's not against "other women" given he's a man. A man with at least 10 times as much testosterone as the women he's competing against (based on current rules). Women who would be permanently banned from sports (according to the same rules) if they took performance enhancing drugs that would give them testosterone levels still a fraction of this man. As he's a man!!

OhRene · 31/07/2021 10:01

Of course yanbu. It is cheating. There are a growing number of mediocre males cheating their way to medals now. And loads and loads of women so badly conditioned to be kind at all costs they cheer it on, or cover their eyes.

This may be a good thing. If and when competitions become saturated with mediocre men who are too old and too rubbish to compete in their own sex competitions (Laurel is over 10 years older than the oldest female competitor and she is likely near retirement!) it will show the governing bodies what a load of bollocks it is.
I can't see any other way of fixing it. The misogynistic TRAs will never admit the truth but when it's glaringly obvious, maybe everyone else will.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/07/2021 10:02

It makes a mockery of the Olympic values.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 31/07/2021 10:03

This was highlighted yesterday when I watched the mixed 4 x 400m relay.

One team had changed their order and had a woman running her leg when the others were all men.

She had a decent lead on baton exchange. The men all overtook her. Every single one.

Whatwouldscullydo · 31/07/2021 10:04

Of course they shouldn't

We now have mens sports.

Amd mixed sports.

And that's supposed to be progressive /inclusive.

Its frightenin the number if people who don't think women should have their own sports.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 31/07/2021 10:04

@yourestandingonmyneck

Is there anybody here who thinks that this should be allowed?

I have never come across anybody who agrees with it and I would be interested to hear their argument. I can't for the life of me think of a single convincing argument for it.

2% of people apparently

When ive been on similar voting threads the people voting yabu don’t come on to say why…unless its to apologise for pressing the wrong button 🤔

Sophoclesthefox · 31/07/2021 10:04

Has the voting been disabled? I can’t see the results.

I’m guessing it’s a landslide. Nobody -NOBODY- truly thinks Hubbard deserves to be there.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 31/07/2021 10:04

Getting my YANBU in before we end up in the Naughty Corner!

redpontipine · 31/07/2021 10:05

Yanbu
Watching the mixed relays when the team used m-w-m-w against m-w-w-m I was actually surprised.
I know men are biologically stronger and faster but seeing the comparison on screen like that in the games my first thought was how can they allow trans women to compete.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 31/07/2021 10:05

Crosspost 😀

AlfonsoTheMango · 31/07/2021 10:05

YANBU. Sports should be segregated by sex, not gender.

sleepyhead · 31/07/2021 10:05

LH is so terribly oppressed (the MOST oppressed), so stunning and brave, that the world bends over backwards and excludes a woman of colour who's had to fight all her life, in order for LH to have her lady-feels affirmed.

That LH can show her face in this situation tells me all I need to know about LH's character.

Shame on LH. Shame.

LadyGAgain · 31/07/2021 10:05

@rattusrattus20

this chart shows the age distribution amongst Olympic medal winners at the last four sets of games.

I take my hat off to Ms Hubbard for being a credible medal contender at the age of 43, breaking the mould like that really takes some balls.

I fear you have truly missed the point of this thread.
Mummyoflittledragon · 31/07/2021 10:05

234 votes 98% YANBU. Registering this before it goes to the naughty corner

NeedToKnow101 · 31/07/2021 10:06

Could you ask MN to amend the title, as LH isn't a woman. That's the whole point.

OneTC · 31/07/2021 10:07

I fear you have truly missed the point of this thread

Woosh

yourestandingonmyneck · 31/07/2021 10:07

This sums it up for me.

If a woman is banned for taking performance enhancing drugs to increase testosterone levels, why the hell are men, with massively higher testosterone levels, allowed to compete with them?

This is insane. Who makes these rules? How is this justified?

NeedToKnow101 · 31/07/2021 10:07

But yes, I obviously agree with you, as do the majority. Olympics Committee don't give a shit about women.

reprehensibleme · 31/07/2021 10:07

LadyGAgain, I think Rattus was being tongue in cheek there

ferretface · 31/07/2021 10:08

It's obviously unfair

ArabellaScott · 31/07/2021 10:08

YANBU, OP.

Males should not be in women's sports, or any other spaces for women.

And to all those tiresome posts popping up to say this issue should be only discussed in a secret, hidden-away corner of the website, when this whole website is BUILT around the existence of women and mothers- shame on you.

ThanksIGotItInMorrisons · 31/07/2021 10:08

Who are the 3% who disagree with you?? Wtf??

FurierTransform · 31/07/2021 10:10

Everyone suddenly agrees with this, but women on the whole have not been on the side of the (predominantly male) voices who have been pointing out how ridiculous this has been getting for years ...
