To think Laurel Hubbard should not be competing against other women

I know I am going to get ripped apart for this. Smile

I have no problem with the transgender community, that is your life/body and I am not one to judge anyone else, do what makes you happy.

There is something fundamentally wrong about a person who is biologically a man competing against a woman in sport as significant as weightlifting.
I am not taking anything away from women weightlifters, however when competing in that sport, a person who was born a man will always have an unfair advantage over a woman.

I am all for equal rights but it seems political correctness has now put us in a position that we will only consider the equal rights of those in the transgender community. What happens to the equal rights of all the other women who have worked extremely hard to get to the olympics who should be competing against biological women.

There needs to be clearer cut criteria on entrance requirements to every sport, to give every person the equal rights they deserve.

My heart goes out to all the other women competing who I’m sure must be somewhat disheartened about their chances of success now they are competing against a biological man. Sad

I agree completely. Whether it's plain or internalised, misogyny is rife on threads like these.

The cap fits you so well RaindropsonRosie.

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 31/07/2021 19:12

I'd be interested in the comparison of the timelines between the IOC debating to include trans athletes as their preferred sex and Gavin Hubbard, a failed Olympic weightlifter, deciding he was going to start identifying as a female

Plopper is a good name for the posters who spout shit and then disappear because their shit is just that, shit.

Talk shit. Full of shit. Shit for brains. Plopper.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/07/2021 19:13

If the people playing the game think they won't win because someone they're up against is better than them, they don't need to play. If they continue and the better person wins they just need to try harder.

Define "better". What's the advantage LH has, in your opinion?

rosyvalentine · 31/07/2021 19:14

YANBU. Crazy that this is being allowed and extremely unfair to women competitors - specifically the one who didn't make it to the Olympics because of this travesty. LH should be ashamed.

sst1234 · 31/07/2021 19:14

While most people will never be Olympians so mat think, ‘so why should I care about this debate’, just remember that women’s hard won rights, physical, Psychological protection is being taken away by stealth. And the woke crowd is cheering on patting themselves on the back about how progressive they are. Just remember that the leadership of the official opposition, the Labour Party in this country will not acknowledge that a woman is born a female. Just remember that this menace is creeping up on women so fast and we are being told to shut up and put up.

RaindropsOnRosie · 31/07/2021 19:16

@heathspeedwell

Perhaps RaindropsonRosie can explain:

If sport is so unimportant then why are people like Elliot Page saying that children will literally commit suicide if they can't play on the team that best suits their gender?

Because misgendering children is very different to grown adults whingeing about losing a game. If you take children committing suicide less seriously than a game, you probably need to give your head a wobble.

If it means I can refer to people on threads as 'Plopper' instead of 'Karen' (which, let's be real, are synonymous with each other), then I'm all for it!

@HarryHedgehog

YANBU op…it’s bollocks

I’m sick of all this transgender shit, be who you want, dress how you want, live as you want… but I truly believe this is taking the absolute biscuit.

All of it takes the absolute biscuit. Women inmates being forced to be housed with fully intact male rapists because they declare themselves to be women and must be allowed to socialise with women to validate themselves takes the entire biscuit factory and then some.

But, but feelings and men must have what they want at all costs.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 31/07/2021 19:19

Wait wait I left my bingo card in FWR

Right

Try harder
You’re being mean
Weaponising the repeatedly disproven suicide statistics of children (I never fail to be astonished that people who claim to be on the right side of history are happy to weaponise suicide)

I don't follow her sport so I don't know how good she is at it, but if people think she's too good for it I guess that's her advantage. Clearly people are struggling to comprehend that the winner of a game is the one who is best at it- through luck or skill.

Add the mention of 'Karen'
Theeyeballsinthesky · 31/07/2021 19:21

I refuse to say trans children. Children are not fucking trans, they are children finding their way in the world & trying out different things and should be supported to do so not set off on a lifetime of medication

Greyrootszerohoots · 31/07/2021 19:21

What would the IOC do if a 35 year old male boxer transitioned and entered into female boxing a few years later?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 31/07/2021 19:21

Luck, skill - or being an actual man consisting against women

Theeyeballsinthesky · 31/07/2021 19:21

Competing

@Greyrootszerohoots

What would the IOC do if a 35 year old male boxer transitioned and entered into female boxing a few years later?
Say it was down to the national boxing federation of that country to decide whilst also musing publicly whether it’s more important to be inclusive rather than fair
NecessaryScene · 31/07/2021 19:23

the winner of a game is the one who is best at it- through luck or skill.

Or cheating, of course.

RedDogsBeg · 31/07/2021 19:25

RaindropsonRosie do you apply your just try harder schtick to paralympians? Should they just try harder to beat able bodied athletes as it all such a game?

Sport and athletics is more than just a game as you so dismissively put it if that's all it was it wouldn't generate or be worth multi-billions of £'s.

RaindropsOnRosie · 31/07/2021 19:27

You're right. That label is so harmful. Maybe they should be called 'Children who are trans', not 'Children who are fucking trans'. The latter makes you look bad in many many ways.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/07/2021 19:28

Do you think that advantage LH has is fair? It comes mostly from testosterone, which the other competitors wont's have on the same level? How can this make LH "best"?

RedDogsBeg · 31/07/2021 19:29

I don't follow her sport so I don't know how good she is at it, but if people think she's too good for it I guess that's her advantage. Clearly people are struggling to comprehend that the winner of a game is the one who is best at it- through luck or skill.

The advantage is simple, LH is a cheat because LH is male, no luck or skill involved.

Jorriss · 31/07/2021 19:30

I don't follow her sport so I don't know how good she is at it, but if people think she's too good for it I guess that's her advantage.

Yes being a male competing against women is a significant advantage. Male privilege in fact.

Clearly people are struggling to comprehend that the winner of a game is the one who is best at it- through luck or skill.

Clearly you are struggling to understand the performance differences between males and females. There is a reason why sport has always been sex segregated you know.

RaindropsOnRosie · 31/07/2021 19:31

Paralympians rarely compete against olympians, so no. I get what you were trying to do there though.

If the people who aren't good enough at their sport aren't getting or generating enough money for themselves, their team, etc then they shouldn't be there and perhaps should try something else.

Board games, puzzles and video games generate and are worth multi-billions of £'s too. I'm really not sure what your point is?
