To think Laurel Hubbard should not be competing against other women

I know I am going to get ripped apart for this. Smile

I have no problem with the transgender community, that is your life/body and I am not one to judge anyone else, do what makes you happy.

There is something fundamentally wrong about a person who is biologically a man competing against a woman in sport as significant as weightlifting.
I am not taking anything away from women weightlifters, however when competing in that sport, a person who was born a man will always have an unfair advantage over a woman.

I am all for equal rights but it seems political correctness has now put us in a position that we will only consider the equal rights of those in the transgender community. What happens to the equal rights of all the other women who have worked extremely hard to get to the olympics who should be competing against biological women.

There needs to be clearer cut criteria on entrance requirements to every sport, to give every person the equal rights they deserve.

My heart goes out to all the other women competing who I’m sure must be somewhat disheartened about their chances of success now they are competing against a biological man. Sad

Isn't it weird that at about 1000 votes, 1300 votes and now 1500 votes the margin is still 98% / 2%. That hasn't changed at all. It didn't go up or down, just stayed the same.

Hmmm. Almost as is MNHQ stopped counting after a certain point.

Scout2016 · 31/07/2021 18:20

YANBU, and neither should Chelsea Chelsea Wolfe or Stephanie Barrett.

TheWeeDonkey · 31/07/2021 18:22

I think people have forgotten that all sports are games. It's really not that serious.

Wow, just so much ignorance and knee jerk nonsense in here. People, please educate yourselves before posting.

Difficult to converse with madness. Calm down, read up - take a deep breath and then post. All this melodrama will not help your cause.

If you want change, be very purposeful about it rather than wallowing in spite and self pity.

The UK does hate so well

This is the callibre of argument that is destroying women's hard fought rights the world over.

Apologies if this has already been linked, from Fair Play For Women

On voting. Looks like the AIBU meter is stuck. Can we have a breakdown of votes on a purely numerical basis, please MNHQ?]

Yes, it's like arguing with a stroppy teenager. They just throw insults and then flounce when they can't come up with something else, calling us all 'meanies' on the way out and slamming the door for good measure.

Jorriss · 31/07/2021 18:28

I think people have forgotten that all sports are games. It's really not that serious.

It is for those who have made a career out of it. And for the many fans following it.

If the people playing the game think they won't win because someone they're up against is better than them, they don't need to play. If they continue and the better person wins they just need to try harder

So you advocate that women should just give up their sport and hand their places over to middle aged men who are dressed as women Hmm

Because trying harder is not going to make a jot of difference. And if you don't understand that, then probably best to go educate yourself. ☺️

WomaninBoots · 31/07/2021 18:28

Yes. I doubt its still 98 to 2. Reckon the metre is trying to work out how to do "less than 1%"

I'm sorry you think being world champion or winning an olympic gold medal is 'not that serious'?? and the women need to try harder to beat biological men?? I think you're the one who needs to try harder.

IMO the men's category should be open so that men/transgender women and women are all free to enter if they wish. The women's category should be for biological women only.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 31/07/2021 18:35

I haven't read the thread but have issue with the title. Hubbard is not competing against "other women". Hubbard is not a woman.

HMBB · 31/07/2021 18:39

@NashvilleQueen

I hope she wins gold. I hope she smashes every record going for women. Lifts twice as much as the next closest.

Then the world can see what an absolute travesty it is for women's sport.

This!

And OP YANBU at all

erinaceus · 31/07/2021 18:41

@Blibbyblobby Thanks. I rather had the impression that the vocal trans ideology was not particularly representative of trans people in general. (Perhaps based on the handful of trans people I have met who don’t seem like idiots to me, not that I ever discussed trans ideology with them.)

I think it’s the lack of self-awareness that I find astounding. Maybe because I’m a scientist and like to classify things. It’s just…quite weird to declare that there is no word needed for a thing, and to not see that that behaviour is darkly problematic.

I learned today that Wikipedia routinely removes the names that trans people were known as before they transitioned from Wikipedia articles about them, under a “no deadnaming” policy, the exception being if the person had been notable under their previous name. I found that quite weird too — an Orwellian rewriting of history.

UrbanRambler · 31/07/2021 18:43

YANBU, except the word "other" does not fit well in the thread title. I'm sick of this TWAW nonsense.

Bryonyshcmyony · 31/07/2021 18:43

@RaindropsOnRosie

Perfect example

People who don't like sport or women. Particularly women competing in sports.

BlackeyedSusan · 31/07/2021 18:43

Floisme · 31/07/2021 18:44

I think we should let cheetahs enter the men's 100 metres. It's only sport, and if men don't like being beaten, they don't need to play, or they could just try harder.

RedDogsBeg · 31/07/2021 18:45

@CorvusPurpureus

Not satire - regular drive-by plopper.
Yes, RaindropsOnRosie just plops and runs, no argument to back up their pronouncements, best to ignore and leave them to their pandering to the patriarchy.
Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/07/2021 18:56

YADNBU

The reason males have been allowed into female sports is because they are male, and therefore by default get everything they demand.

So the female competitors get fucked over and ignored because that is more acceptable than hurting male feelings by telling them no.

2021, where a middle age, privileged, wealthy white male can pretend to be most oppressed because of a 'gender identity'

The female athletes are told to shut up or else.

Blibbyblobby · 31/07/2021 18:58

@erinaceus

Maybe because I’m a scientist and like to classify things. It’s just…quite weird to declare that there is no word needed for a thing, and to not see that that behaviour is darkly problematic.

It's kind of the other way round. It's not that they don't think there is no word needed for the thing, it's that they think there is not even a thing in the first place that a word could be needed for.

The actual people who profess these beliefs are of course aware of the sex classes formerly known as men and women, but their ideology tells them this classification was incorrect and flawed.

They handle the cognitive dissonance between what they know and what they are told they should believe by blaming it on their unconscious bias surfacing and therefore something to reject. So the harder and more obvious the practical problems of redefining women as a mixed sex group become, the harder they deny them.

It is indeed darkly problematic.

I see.

The big that always gets me is … but chromosomes?

I always think that, that even if you had top surgery and bottom surgery, would you not feel wrong because every single cell in your body* contains chromosomes that match the sex you were born as. Do trans people not feel a sort of cellular level dysphoria? (I have not asked a trans person this.) (I studied biochemistry…I don’t think cells are unconsciously biased, nor do I think that classification based on chromosomes is some kind of manifestation of bigotry.)

*red blood cells excepted.

I agree completely. Whether it's plain or internalised, misogyny is rife on threads like these.

heathspeedwell · 31/07/2021 19:05

Perhaps RaindropsonRosie can explain:

If sport is so unimportant then why are people like Elliot Page saying that children will literally commit suicide if they can't play on the team that best suits their gender?

HarryHedgehog · 31/07/2021 19:07

YANBU op…it’s bollocks

I’m sick of all this transgender shit, be who you want, dress how you want, live as you want… but I truly believe this is taking the absolute biscuit.
