Someone has parked over my H bar and blocked my car in ...

WatfordGap · 23/07/2021 15:22

Earlier this year, I had an H bar painted across my dropped kerb because people kept parking over the edge of the dropped bit, meaning I couldn't get in or out of my drive (the drive is narrow and at an angle on a very narrow street with cars parked opposite).

So far, it's pretty much done the trick. But today I went out for an hour and came back and someone has parked a good foot or so over the end of it, meaning that I can't get my car off the driveway. Unfortunately for them, I was not using the vehicle which was (and still is) parked on the drive, but another one. :)

So I've parked across the rest of my H bar. There's now enough room between my front bumper and their rear one to get a matchbox in. There's about a foot between them and the car parked in front of them.

Today is my last day at work for 2 weeks. Do you think I should have an early glass of wine to celebrate? Grin

The wanker is unlikely to care about a note, they already don't care about the highway code or just basic decency.
Urgh so many bad memories of total wank bags parking over my drive in my old house, I needed to be able to get out 24/7 and I was sometimes trapped in for hours, tried the notes thing, totally pointless.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/07/2021 19:17

@majesticallyawkward

I'm taking notes 😄 someone keeps parking blocking my garage door and it's driving me nuts! Not sure I can block them in... but there has to be some way to take petty revenge.
It really isn't your responsibility to keep any plastic bags that have come round dry-cleaned clothes you know, the very thin ones out of the engine compartment of a car in front of your garage. If one of those, blowing about in the wind, gets in among the engine, it melts when the engine gets hot. It doesn't cause any actual damage, just a strong smell of overheated plastic -- very worrying.
JungleBeats · 23/07/2021 19:19

Why do you always get a few people on parking threads blaming (in one way or another) the person who is blocked in?

Don't fucking park where you shouldn't be parking you selfish cunt.

It really is that simple.

CassandraTrotter · 23/07/2021 19:20

I was concerned i wouldnt have any entertainment this evening as i have watched everything i want to watch on netflix. Then, just like a gift from the parking gods, a parking thread arrives, with diagram.

camouflagejacket · 23/07/2021 19:22

A parking thread on a Friday evening is always all the more enjoyable. I'm off to get a bottle of wine, but I'll be back.

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 23/07/2021 19:22

I'm another one who couldn't get a car out in an emergency. DH, bf at the time, couldn't get his car out of his parents' garage at around 2am when I needed to go back to hospital following repeated asthma attacks. The wanker neighbour had parked partway across, and that meant DH couldn't have got the car out of the very tight garage, even with all the fancy manoeuvring in the world. We had to get a taxi because I refused to call an ambulance. Selfish drivers parking badly make me mad as hell.

headintheproverbial · 23/07/2021 19:28

Enjoying this so far. Super diagram!

Not sure why @peridito is being such an arse though? Maybe a bad parker herself??

DysmalRadius · 23/07/2021 19:28

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar

This explains a lot - if you are the kind of person who actively tries to catch flies by providing honey, you probably find that you are out of step with the majority of society on a lot of other things as well, including parking disputes.

OP - on the off-chance that the parking wanker is of a similar mindset to Peridito, perhaps a good squeeze of honey on his bonnet will attract some fly friends to make up for being blocked in...

😁 I always think the contrary Mary's on parking threads are probably shit parkers feeling defensive!
UrbanRambler · 23/07/2021 19:33

Enjoy your wine, OP. As this seems to be an ongoing issue, have you thought about having part of your front wall/fence removed, to give you a bit more room to manoeuvre? We did this, and found it made a difference as people then have a very visible reminder that they should avoid parking across the turning area for your drive. It's another way to enforce the message, and you could also put a notice up saying "Please don't park across or obstruct any part of our driveway - thank you."

RogueMnerHidesUnderABigHat · 23/07/2021 19:37

I like catching flies with a fly swat.

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 23/07/2021 19:37

Good on you, OP.
Also - gorgeous handwriting.

ejhhhhh · 23/07/2021 19:39

This sort of thread is basically what I'm on MN for. keep us posted on the drama.

I read "bf" and breaatfed, and was very confused for a moment 🤣🤣
ejhhhhh · 23/07/2021 19:42

*breastfed. It's Friday and on the lager!

Dollybird89 · 23/07/2021 19:45

Got my camping chair ready to stake it out 🤣

AddressLabel · 23/07/2021 19:45

I think @peridito is deluded and doesn’t actually have a driveway to fully appreciate the inconvienience this kind of behaviour causes. It may be this drivers “first offence” (it won’t be, they’ll have done it before), but as an end drive owner I can assure you, you constantly get these types. Different car, same story.
I’ve left notes, and had one person read it, scrunch it up and THROW IT ON THE FLOOR. I’ve had one person repeatedly obstruct my drive and the PCSO had to go and have a word. They do it because they are too lazy and inconsiderate to find a suitable space further away. They don’t do it by ‘accident’.

I don’t bother with notes anymore. I usually drive the front of my car right up against the side of theirs so you’d be lucky to get a piece of paper in the gap. They don’t come complaining, they just make a quick exit and don’t do it again.

Perdito do you iron your knickers? You do, don’t you?

endofthelinefinally · 23/07/2021 19:54

Years ago when property owners controlled their own parking the company that owned the flats I lived in used to glue a huge note across the entire windscreen of the errant car. It would take the driver ages to scrape off.

MrMeSeeks · 23/07/2021 19:54

Well I can't. I've had two glasses of wine
What a shame Grin

Hilarious, though in reality would've been very very dodgy!
DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/07/2021 19:55

I feel your pain. I had someone park on my drive today. No sign of where they’d gone or why it was abandoned.

I was so tempted to block them in, but my car was on the drive. Otherwise I’d have blocked them in. I was looking at all angles trying to work out how to do it.
