Appealing a ping?!

mumofblueeyes · 18/07/2021 23:17

Does anyone know if you can 'appeal' a ping? Got the email of doom this evening which states I can come out of isolation on Thursday 22nd. I believe this means I was in contact with a positive person last Sunday (ie. over a week ago). On that Sunday my family and I were holed up in a villa in Mallorca. We did not leave the villa on Saturday, Sunday or until late on Monday. We landed in the UK Tuesday morning and not knowing, have been on general circulation since then (Mallorca was at the time Green, we are double vaxxed, we had a negative fit to fly home and a negative PCR day 2). It seems weird after a sociable 7 days to now stay in for 4 days and very strange that the system has alerted us when we didn't meet a soul that day and knew no-one in Mallorca. Do we just have to accept the isolation or can you appeal?

Sounds like it was the flight (10 days)

CovidCorvid · 18/07/2021 23:19

You can just ignore it, it’s not enforceable.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2021 23:25

@CovidCorvid

You can just ignore it, it’s not enforceable.
🙄🤦🏻‍♀️
Clawdy · 18/07/2021 23:25

Ignore it, then delete the app.

MarcelineMissouri · 18/07/2021 23:27

If it’s just the app then you don’t have anything to appeal - it’s guidance, not law.

CheersBoris · 18/07/2021 23:27

Ignore and delete. Test every day of you want.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2021 23:27

@Clawdy

Ignore it, then delete the app.
It was an email though. Her contact details have been given as a close contact. Probably from the flight on the Monday.
NakedAttraction · 18/07/2021 23:27

Agree it sounds like it’s from the flight.

Was it the app or Test and Trace that contacted you? The app is not legally enforceable. Official test and trace is.

cherrybonbons · 18/07/2021 23:31

Use your common sense and delete the app

SoupDragon · 18/07/2021 23:32

The app doesn't send emails. At least mine didn't.

mumofblueeyes · 18/07/2021 23:32

It wasn't the app but an email from NHS test and trace. I therefore believe it is legally enforceable rather than advisory? Was thinking the flight but that is out by a few days. After two vaccinations and then two negative Covid tests in a week the whole thing is just annoying. I was wondering if could be an admin error but my husband and I got pinged at exactly the same time.

If you've been told to isolate till Thursday, wouldn't that make the day of contact Monday? In any case, the whole point of tomorrow is that we're supposed to be excercising personal responsibility from now on. You've had both vaccinations and two negative tests and are presumably symptomless, so I would ignore it, in your shoes, as, on balance, you probably haven't got Covid. What's going to change between now and August 16th, when you won't be advised to isolate anyway, if you've had both jabs? Other than daily infections will probably have doubled. Confused

careerchangeperhaps · 18/07/2021 23:42

It will be the flight. The flight was Monday night so that's when you had contact with the Covid +ve person. Isolation ends 10 days later = Thursday.

If you've had an email rather than a ping, it's legally enforceable.

moynomore · 18/07/2021 23:45

Ignore and delete.

NCJuly2021 · 19/07/2021 00:02

Yep, sounds like it’s the flight.

If it’s an email, you can’t just ignore it, as you’ve been contacted directly by Test and Trace.

Laufeythejust · 19/07/2021 00:13

The contact day was Monday not Sunday (I have just got the dreaded message from a contact I had on Tuesday and my last day of isolation is Friday). It’s legally enforceable like others (and the message) says.

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 19/07/2021 00:22

Yeah, like you’re all saying, ignore it. You’re clearly special.

Is this what personal responsibility looks like? We are fucked.

CovidCorvid · 19/07/2021 00:23

Well if it’s from test and trace and now it sounds like it was from the flight rather than a faulty ping you’ll have to isolate.

AntiHop · 19/07/2021 00:26

Doesn't the Monday flight make it exactly 10 days til the Thursday?

Enforceable You need to follow T&T isolation guidance
HollaHolla · 19/07/2021 00:33

You need to follow it, as you are likely to be called/checked up on. Personal responsibility and all that.

Saoirse82 · 19/07/2021 00:38

Yeah, like you’re all saying, ignore it. You’re clearly special.

THIS

Bytheloch · 19/07/2021 00:50

Meh, legally enforceable how? If OP continues to test, then act responsibly if they have a positive test, nothing else will be done. Nobody at front door to check etc?

If it’s from the flight, I’d assume all passengers have been informed- if you’re not ignoring the email OP, I would be following up on it as it does sound out of sync timings? May just be a catch all notification, rather than specific to say passengers in next seat to you?

SoupDragon · 19/07/2021 00:54

Meh, legally enforceable how? If OP continues to test, then act responsibly if they have a positive test, nothing else will be done.

And yet everyone was frothing about Boris not isolating.
