Appealing a ping?!

mumofblueeyes · 18/07/2021 23:17

Does anyone know if you can 'appeal' a ping? Got the email of doom this evening which states I can come out of isolation on Thursday 22nd. I believe this means I was in contact with a positive person last Sunday (ie. over a week ago). On that Sunday my family and I were holed up in a villa in Mallorca. We did not leave the villa on Saturday, Sunday or until late on Monday. We landed in the UK Tuesday morning and not knowing, have been on general circulation since then (Mallorca was at the time Green, we are double vaxxed, we had a negative fit to fly home and a negative PCR day 2). It seems weird after a sociable 7 days to now stay in for 4 days and very strange that the system has alerted us when we didn't meet a soul that day and knew no-one in Mallorca. Do we just have to accept the isolation or can you appeal?

OMG it's Test and Trace from the flight, not the app it doesn't matter if you've been vaccinated. Of course you have to follow it, don't be a total arse OP.

mumofblueeyes · 19/07/2021 10:28

There were about 400 people on the flight. All by law have to take a Day 2 test so the odds are that someone will test positive. If one person tests positive on the plane I believe the whole plane gets a ping? We kept to ourselves on our holiday but shared the plane with large groups of partying youngsters. I guess therefore if you fly to a green country, the likelihood is you will have to isolate for 10 days on return, even if symptom free, double vaxxed and with two negative tests.

Scirius, why do you have to resort to calling me unpleasant names? I've asked a reasonable question and have appreciated the advice of others. I'm not an arse. Just a normal mum muting a question.

@cherrybonbons

Use your common sense and delete the app
It has been said so many times on here and other threads. This is NOT the app, this is from Test and a Trace and IS legally enforceable Unfortunately OP it probably was the plane. We had emails and texts and a phone call while still in post holiday quarantine It’s shite but you have to do it
mumofblueeyes · 19/07/2021 10:33

If you read my original post, my question was relating to the fact that Test and Trace are saying my day of contact was Sunday, when I didn't leave the (holiday) home on Sat, Sun or most of Mon. I flew home Tuesday morning.
How does that make me a 'total arse'? I hate the way you can't ask a reasonable question on Mumsnet without getting abuse. It's worse than the school playground.

Worth asking for details. Unlikely to be a mistake but just in case.

gamerchick · 19/07/2021 10:37

You can try but I doubt you'll get anywhere. Good luck though.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 19/07/2021 10:37

I’m not normally a harsh poster but:

We kept to ourselves on our holiday but shared the plane with large groups of partying youngsters. I guess therefore if you fly to a green country, the likelihood is you will have to isolate for 10 days on return, even if symptom free, double vaxxed and with two negative tests.

Surely that’s an obvious risk you take by flying abroad? There isn’t all that much that can be done to reduce the risk of passing it on on a plane. I would have thought a flight crammed full of 400 other passengers you don’t know is just about one of the most high risk things you can do right now, so surely you factored that in to your choice to go on holiday?

It’s bloody obvious that even if you are all fully vaccinated, lateral flowed up to the eyeballs and stay in your villa on your own and never go out, the flights are still hugely high risk and you’re running a high risk of getting pinged as a result.

ChequerBoard · 19/07/2021 10:39

It's not a ping - that would come from the app as a result of your phone being in close vicinity of another app user that has tested positive.

This is an enforceable isolation notice via email from NHS Test and Trace, probably via the passenger locator form from your flight back from Mallorca.

Why wouldn't it apply to you? You chose to go on holiday and sit in a plane full of people. Now one them has tested positive and you need to isolate.

What's hard to comprehend?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/07/2021 10:42

This isn’t a ping.

This is a legally enforceable email telling you to isolate from T&T.

You can ask for more details but you will need to comply.

FreakinFrankNFurter · 19/07/2021 10:45

What's hard to comprehend?

Erm, I’d imagine it is what the op said, that
A - she’s been told the contact was Sunday when she wasn’t in contact with anyone,
B - the isolation end date corresponds with contact on Monday
C - she flew on Tuesday

I’m not surprised you’re confused and questioning it op. I certainly would if I was told to isolate and the dates didn’t add up.

i've don't two lateral flows, both negative, i for a PCR as my husband was positive, my PCR came back positive and i now have symptoms. don't rely on lateral flow tests if that's what you used.
Signalbox · 19/07/2021 10:48

OP if you feel the decision is incorrect you could try calling 119. I expect they will be busy though.

If you need help getting a test to check if you have coronavirus, or have been contacted by NHS Test and Trace and have a question or concern, call 119

rookiemere · 19/07/2021 10:52

This is one of the many reasons we've decided not to go abroad with flights already booked from last year.

There's a high possibility based on general prevalence of the virus at the minute that someone will test positive on the plane. At least it was the return journey OP so you get to isolate at home rather than goodness knows where if you'd tested positive abroad.

GreenWillow · 19/07/2021 10:53

I’d be ignoring it personally. You’re double jabbed, I’d consider that as you having done your bit.

ChessieFL · 19/07/2021 11:00

The OP says they left the villa late Monday and arrived in the UK on Tuesday morning. To me this implies the flight left late Monday evening (or she was at least in the airport with people on her flight at that time) which ties up with the isolation ending on Thursday.

mumofblueeyes · 19/07/2021 11:01

Thanks all. I'm not ignoring it, currently sat inside sweating my pants off with my kids going loopy and in the process of cancelling my husbands birthday lunch. Living in a caravan for the summer and it is unbearable in the heat. And yes, that is the chance you take when you go on holiday. Now regretting it. For those asking why I am confused, it is because the day of contact was Sunday and I was not in contact with anyone that day, or the day before, or most of the day after. That was the basis of my OP.

OP posts:
AllieTM · 19/07/2021 11:04

Did they tell you the day of contact was Sunday or is that an assumption you have made from the end of isolation date? That makes a difference.

mumofblueeyes · 19/07/2021 11:04

Misshub. Sorry to hear you are positive and hope you feel better soon. My two tests were both PCR's - for for to fly and day 2. Both went through labs and not done at home.

OP posts:
mumofblueeyes · 19/07/2021 11:06

Hi Allie. Yes, maybe I am doing the days wrong. I was just using the guidance on the email and worked out Monday. Flew Tuesday but maybe it links in to Mon as well. Who knows. I can end isolation at the end of Thursday. Husband birthday lunch is Wednesday :(

OP posts:
mumofblueeyes · 19/07/2021 11:08

I guess my post is a warning to those considering going to Green countries for a quick trip. If there are any green countries left?! The odds of you being required to isolate on return must be very high.

I know, it’s ok. We are in the same position (well we’re until today - yay Freedom!!) We figure someone from the plane got a positive result from their day 2 test. The isolation and quarantine systems are unconnected though so you might get 2 calls

I actually might go to that in your shoes Sssssshhhhhhhh!
simbobs · 19/07/2021 11:19

Completely sympathise with you, OP, but all of this exposes the flaws in the Test & Trace system. You have quite blithely been going about your business with a completely clear conscience, despite the possibility that you may be infectious. For this to work at all the notification has to be much sooner. Isolating for the remainder of the period sounds pretty ineffective. Don't beat yourself up about it there are far more football fans in circulation with a much higher chance of being covid positive.
