Noisy effing cyclists

We have lived in our village for years. The last couple we seem to have ended up on a very popular route for large groups of cyclists.

I have no problem with cyclists on the road but we live on a corner and a junction and they shout at each other constantly as they cycle past. It's constant all day.

Sometimes just that the junction is clear, sometimes what they are having for dinner or sometimes, like this morning, how much of a bitch his wife was! There have been five groups already this morning since 6am, which has woken the kids (6 and 3). All shouting at each other as they ride past.

I know AIBU to expect anything from people when they are outside my house and on a
public road but it's it unreasonable not to expect people to be quiet outside anyone's house at 6am on a Sunday morning!??

Rant over, made me feel better, thanks.

😡🤬

Picklypickles. you're just not funny
Ouch! That's cut me to the bone that has. Maybe I could dress from head to toe in lycra and go sit behind a tractor full of shit for a few miles in the 30 degree heat, that will definitely give a few people a good laugh! I'm not sure I'd enjoy the feeling of being absolutely despised and ridiculed everywhere I went though, I have to admit you are braver than I!!
Blackwidow47 · 18/07/2021 13:09

What about investing in an air horn, blow it every time they come past!! I’ve seen cyclists do this here, bellowing “clear” at corners and suchlike. I get the safety aspect but feel consideration for all wouldn’t go amiss .

Sprig1 · 18/07/2021 13:09

We get this too. Lots of them swear too. Not ideal when we are playing in the garden with the kids.

3beesinmybonnet · 18/07/2021 13:15

I once had to ask a vanload of police to keep the noise down under our bedroom window. I didn't need to know the contents of their sandwiches at 4 in the morning!
I agree the cyclists or indeed anyone should not be shouting near houses in the early morning.

Dontwatchfootball · 18/07/2021 13:16

I am all for people exercising but groups of cyclists often seem to be obnoxious. Not all, but enough to make them a freaking nuisance. There are loads near us and they can make going to work in the morning a total nightmare.

SlightSilverStardust · 18/07/2021 13:16

I’d buy a bull horn from Amazon, not too expensive, I’ve previously priced them, for annoying dog walkers at 5 and 6AM

ivykaty44 · 18/07/2021 13:18

you're doing a good job just where you are

JavaQ · 18/07/2021 13:26

Yep, SHOUTY (male) cyclists. WTF is that all about? You cant have a conversation with someone 50 yards behind you. Just go for a ride and chat in the cafe. Or just dress in lycra, ride to the cafe, and pretend.
W*nkers, the lot of them.

I start SHOUTING in the garden ....."PIERS!!! HUGO!!!!!!!!!!!! HEDGE FUND!!!!!!! TUSCANY!!!!!!!! RAHRAHRAAAAH!!!

LadyLolaRuben · 18/07/2021 13:26

Yes I have the same. The lane I live on is on a popular cycling route - its used by Bradley Wiggins. They shout to each other to talk but, its so loud, it sounds like someone is shouting through your window as they whizz past. And its at all times like you say 6am on a Sunday!

Oldraver · 18/07/2021 13:28

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Is there any way to rig up a motion-sensitive speaker system that shouts back? As in;

YOUR PENIS IS SMALL!
YOUR SHORTS ARE TOO TIGHT!
YOUR CONDOM DOES NOT SUIT YOU!

It sounds awful OP. I feel for you.

I had a neighbour that regularily screeched at her OH, so my friend made a cd in loop of ....shut up, shut up just shut up, from the song

Never got to use it though

Lanique · 18/07/2021 13:39

We have exactly the same issue OP. Loud fucking shouty twat men in the early hours Sunday mornings. I can't even wince to DH about it as he's a cyclist and will always stand up for them. Probably because he's one of the loud fucking shouty twat men plaguing another village at the same time.

I will however show him this thread. Perhaps a campaign for reclaiming Lea time on a Sunday morning should be started.

Lanique · 18/07/2021 13:40

*peace time

KatieB55 · 18/07/2021 14:26

Our village must be on a similar cycle club route. Then we also get large groups of motorbikes flying through at weekends taking no notice whatsoever of the speed limit.

Dontwatchfootball · 18/07/2021 14:37

Anyone else noticing this is mostly men who do this crap.

JackieeWeaver · 18/07/2021 15:22

Drives me bonkers! 5.45 this morning. Lycra clad middle aged men yelling at each other cycling past our house. So fucking annoying!

Picklypickles · 18/07/2021 15:33

Oh no! Do you mean I'm not loved and worshipped by the Almighty Twats in Lycra Club? I suppose it must really upset them that I and others in my village don't just dive into the hedge or vanish from the material plane entirely to make way for them on their little pleasure rides, I suppose it is terribly thoughtless of us to attempt to go about our own lives knowing the inconvenience it must be causing cyclists out on a pleasure ride. No other reason for them to be in our village, there's nothing here.
muddyford · 18/07/2021 15:49

It's the way they think they are entitled to do anything on the roads, shared use tracks and footpaths. I have started not to leap out the way when they come whizzing behind me and the dog. Let them slow down. They don't pull over when I'm in the car and slow down for them. My husband carries a sturdy hiking pole sticking out at an angle, hoping some Lycra-clad moron will come too close and catch his spokes in it. One moment of joy when two set off down the footpath into a children's play area, clearly marked No cycling. She caught her handlebars on the bollard and fell off quite dramatically. Friend and I helpfully pointed out it was No cycling!

Your dh is very nasty.
lljkk · 18/07/2021 18:40

DH would love to find clubs that have regular starts at 545 am or 6am.
Especially in winter, 2 hours before the sun comes up. Where do you guys live that experience this?

Hankunamatata · 18/07/2021 18:44

Time for a big sign op telling them to respect quiet pre 9am

ahoyshipmates · 18/07/2021 18:56

Yeah, round here they even have a habit of shouting at you whilst you've given way to them coming the other way and overtaking parked cars even though it was your right of way anyway.

A whole rancid sweating hairy bunch of them forced me to give way once, and as they cycled past the lead one shouted sarcastically "Take care..." as if I was in the wrong and needed telling off.
"Fuck off you twat" was my retort to that one.

They really do believe they own the road. Arseholes.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/07/2021 19:16

The emerging packs of twats cyclists are one of the worst side effects of lockdown.

ListenToChickens · 19/07/2021 07:55

Lots of sweary cyclists pass us too. They'd no doubt complain at shouting sweary yoofs, but wearing Lycra and riding posh bikes makes their swearing more acceptable in their minds, presumably.

ChainJane · 19/07/2021 08:35

YANBU but good luck expecting cyclists to behave considerately, especially if they're in a pack.

Oblomov21 · 19/07/2021 09:03

Similar here. Drives me crazy. Surely there is nothing that can be done though?
