Noisy effing cyclists

AnxiousPixie · 18/07/2021 07:15

We have lived in our village for years. The last couple we seem to have ended up on a very popular route for large groups of cyclists.

I have no problem with cyclists on the road but we live on a corner and a junction and they shout at each other constantly as they cycle past. It's constant all day.

Sometimes just that the junction is clear, sometimes what they are having for dinner or sometimes, like this morning, how much of a bitch his wife was! There have been five groups already this morning since 6am, which has woken the kids (6 and 3). All shouting at each other as they ride past.

I know AIBU to expect anything from people when they are outside my house and on a
public road but it's it unreasonable not to expect people to be quiet outside anyone's house at 6am on a Sunday morning!??

Rant over, made me feel better, thanks.

😡🤬

Yes, I was woken up yesterday morning and this morning before 7am by cyclists yelling to each other. They’re totally inconsiderate.

Maybeone · 18/07/2021 11:26

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit

Didn't realise there was so much anti cyclist feeling Shock I'll swap you OP for the motorbikes near my house.
I fucking hate them

Almost always men hogging the fucking road too

blueberryporridge · 18/07/2021 11:27

And then of course there were the group of bikers staying in the Air BNB near us who felt the need to disturb all the neighbours’ lie-ins this morning reviving their bikes. Heaven help whichever country circuit they are going to blast along today.

billybullshitterz1n · 18/07/2021 11:48

Yep in our village it was 7.15 this morning. Lycra knobheads bellowing at each other right past my bedroom window. I'm tempted to get a super soaker for such occasions Grin

ivykaty44 · 18/07/2021 12:16

What do you think happens when it rains? And on a day like today it’d be great 👍🏻

Picklypickles · 18/07/2021 12:20

Good point, better to fill the super soakers with jam so that the lycra twats will be eaten alive by flying ants and wasps.

ivykaty44 · 18/07/2021 12:25

Hmm I think that might backfire on you….

YellowBellyCat · 18/07/2021 12:27

I'm a cyclist and admit when out in a group we will shout instructions at junctions for the safety of the group. So people at the front are supposed to shout clear or stopping and cyclist etiquette is that you repeat it down the group.

I'm never out before 9am though and I'd be mortified if we were disturbing someone. I think definitely try and get the word out amongst the local cycling community. Either by some signs or join some local club fb groups and raise it there.

Pandora64 · 18/07/2021 12:28

Same here - living near a crossroads, popular cycle route, shouting as they pass. The bedrooms are at the other side though so it doesn’t bother us much.

Those revvy motor bikes zooming past on the other handAngry

Picklypickles · 18/07/2021 12:32

Hmm I think too many hours with a bike seat wedged up your arse has damaged your sense of humour...

Don't worry, I don't own a super soaker and I'm certainly not wasting any of my lovely jam on those shit stains! I do laugh though when I see a group of them stuck behind a tractor carrying a big trailer full of manure for miles and miles down our country lanes, must be lovely on hot days like this!

SingingSands · 18/07/2021 12:32

I understand how you feel OP as I get woken by dog walkers having loud conversations every morning - anywhere from 6am onwards.

It's really annoying to be woken up by people being loud, somehow more annoying than a motorbike or a tractor, as at least that noise passes in seconds. Dog walkers stand and chat for ages or have shouty conversations across the road at each other. It's inconsiderate.

Could you put a sign on the corner asking for quiet before 8am? It might take a few weeks for the message to filter through, but it should eventually.

DinosaurDiana · 18/07/2021 12:33

I get the horses feet clip-clopping waking me up.

3scape · 18/07/2021 12:39

Performance exercise that these men engage in. The shouting often seems to be very much attention seeking and part of their entitlement. They are exercising therefore it is an Important Activity Hmm everyone must know.

Picklypickles · 18/07/2021 12:41

I never used to feel this way about cyclists, for most of my life many people (myself included) have managed to ride around the area on their bikes without causing any bother at all, single file, letting cars pass them, not racing around blind corners oblivious to pedestrians and horses etc, just showing general common sense you know? Now its become fashionable they are a real menace, so many of them almost seem to be out looking to cause trouble so they can post their little outraged videos online for attention. I also don't think it will be long before a pedestrian is killed by some of these men racing around at ridiculous speeds with their heads down looking at the floor - in popular beauty spots full of pedestrians, children and dogs etc on sunday afternoons, its absolutely terrifying. But hey, apparently they can do whatever the fuck they like and there are no consequences.

BrozTito · 18/07/2021 12:47

Oh my lord dont get me started on these tits. I have a hide in the woods. They come through every sunday screaming at each other. And a woman who lets her dog off the lead then screams its name every few seconds for miles. Always massive toffs. Weirdly the young lads who use the place for dirt jumps and a bit of covert drinking/green smoking are really respectful.

hennybeans · 18/07/2021 12:48

I sympathize, op. My house is the last in the village before a very popular walking route. I get people walking with their friends early morning, 7 days a week, who often stop in front of my house to have noisy conversations with other people they've bumped into. I guess my front garden feels like as natural stopping point before they get onto the proper walking route. They are 2 meters from under my open bedroom window and think it's a great place to have an enthusiastic 7am conversation.

I think people are mostly just in their own world and don't think that others might still be sleeping. There is very little common courtesy.

BrozTito · 18/07/2021 12:50

Yes there is anti cyclist feeling because they're massively defensive and in denial about their behaviour and just drop in 'what about cars'
endlessly.

ivykaty44 · 18/07/2021 12:54

Picklypickles. you're just not funny

BreakOnThrough · 18/07/2021 12:55

Lots of people have taking up cycling in the past decade. It's very good. But a lot of them are totally lacking in awareness, i.e., road safety. etiquette, social awareness. My DD works in a cafe, and she dreads when (many of) these people arrive on Sat and Sun. Not all are like that of course, but...

Heathofhares · 18/07/2021 12:56

Are you in a certain part of Surrey OP? - We're often out first thing in a very popular cycling area and yes lots of cyclist do seem to carry on at the tops of their voices - they are spread out and trying to have a conversation as they go along. - I thought it might be a covid thing? People are riding further apart?

Mind you it helps me know when the mountain bike groups are about to come careering past!

Near young lads? Sounds much more sinister than people shouting their dog's name.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 18/07/2021 13:05

The world would be a slightly better place if people would realise that noise travels, and that when it’s quiet, such as early in the morning, that any noise they make will seem louder. Then just be considerate of those within earshot. I had to remind my neighbour of that when he was using power tools in his garage at 5:30 one Sunday morning! 🙄 Thankfully he's a reasonable bloke who forgot that just because it's light doesn't mean people are up.

BrozTito · 18/07/2021 13:05

Yes its a free ice cream stall that turns into a child catching cage

BrozTito · 18/07/2021 13:06

Its for wildlife watching and they're 17 or so

TheSaucepanMan · 18/07/2021 13:07

We have so many cyclists around us, they are a bloody nuisance, whenever someone mentions something on the community Facebook group cyclists get very defensive and at times abusive. Wish they'd piss off.
