To consider 8 stone very slim

Whyyouso · 10/07/2021 12:46

At 5’4 mother in law seems to think not. She told me I could do with loosing half a stone. I was about half a stone lighter before I had dd.

OP posts:
ImaHogg · 10/07/2021 16:20

I’m 5’6 and just under 9 stone. People are constantly telling me I’m too slim. You must be very slim and your mil must have issues.

CounsellorTroi · 10/07/2021 16:20

At 5ft 2 and 8st 5lb I was a size 6-8. It was too light for me, my neck looked scrawny and my hands looked veiny. I look best at around 9st or just over. I'm an hour glass shape, medium/large frame with relatively long legs and a short body, full in the bust and bum, and tend to gain weight pretty evenly all over.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 10/07/2021 16:22

Who the hell does she think she is! She's trying to make you feel bad about yourself. I'd make some snidy comment about not wanting to look scrawny...

CardinalCat · 10/07/2021 16:23

I think it depends on your frame and body composition of muscle v fat. I'm bang on 8 stone and 5 foot 3 and while I'm slim/ athletic, I'm definitely not'very slim'. I'm muscular and do a lot of weightlifting and have big runners legs. I really would need to lose half a stone to be very slim.

CardinalCat · 10/07/2021 16:23

Obviously your MiL is an absolute horror though! Who would say such a thing? Is she jealous? I'd pay no attention to her.

NutterflyEffect · 10/07/2021 16:24

There is no adult who is not slim at 8st.

Even if you are 4'10 you will still be slim at 8st
Your weight is no one else's business, bar your dr.

marmaladehound · 10/07/2021 16:48

Your MIL needs to piss off and leave you well alone. 100% her issue. That weight and height is very slim and healthy with room for more weight.
Does your MIL like to knock your confidence or make you doubt yourself frequently? If so this is all about her own insecurities.

Wombat36 · 10/07/2021 18:09

Smacks of control issues too.

honeybuns007 · 10/07/2021 18:23

@Whyyouso

She’s very slim not sure exactly how much she weighs but would imagine she’s smaller then me.
Then she possibly has a disordered view if things. If you are 8 stone at 5'4" and she thinks you are over weight then she has some sort of warped view. That she is even thinner suggests an eating disorder or at least, disordered eating
Middersweekly · 10/07/2021 19:33

I’m roughly the same height as you OP and at 8st 3lbs I was very very skinny and a size 6. I weigh a stone more post lockdown and that is still a healthy BMI. For an adult woman who’s had children 8 stone is tiny. Your MIL needs to give her head a wobble!

ImFree2doasiwant · 10/07/2021 19:37

My best friend is 5ft 4 and weighs 10st 6, she is incredibly thin. She's also very active, so quite muscular. She was half a stone lighter, and looked ill

kowari · 10/07/2021 19:40

A healthy weight at 5ft 4 is 7st 10 to 10st 6, so 8st is slim.

TheCanyon · 10/07/2021 19:40

I'm 7 stone 12 at 5 ft 5, I don't remotely look tiny. Although I've lost a half a stone through illness, said illness has totally wasted my muscles so I feel quite shite.

Buildabitch · 10/07/2021 19:43

You know it’s slim. You can see that from your clothes size or your bmi.

So you either posted to brag about your weight for validation or you ignore blatant facts and gives one persons opinion too much importance.

Wide · 10/07/2021 19:46

I used to be 7stone before kids and now i am around 8 stone and 5ft 2 and I look chubbier, I am petite in my frame and bones but I do have podgy bits that could be to do with needing to tone and pull everything in. I would like to be smaller

DelphiniumBlue · 10/07/2021 19:51

Hmm, I'd say ( on personal experience) 5"4 and 8 stone is slim but not very slim. Personally I still had a rounded tummy and looked pretty well covered at that height and weight ( nowhere near that now!). I'd add that I m not particularly small boned-size 6 feet- so it might look different on a smaller or larger boned person.
But MiL is rude to be commenting on your weight, whatever it is, unless you asked for her opinion.

careerchangeperhaps · 10/07/2021 19:55

I'd say at 5'4", 8 stone would be very slim for most people, yes. I'd also tell your MIL to fuck off.

FrancesFlute · 10/07/2021 19:58

Wow. I'm 5'3" and was just under 8 stone pre-pregnancy. It's natural for me but I have always felt very slim and tbh would have liked to have been about 8 and a half ideally. You must be very petite too so no, surely you don't need to lose weight. None of her business. What height and size is she?!

Squirrelfluffkin · 10/07/2021 19:58

I’m 5ft 5” and 8st 2lbs. If I’m honest I’d like to lose the 2lbs. I’m not very toned so even though I’m light my stomach is fat and I don’t look great. I’ve had two c sections though, which doesn’t help me.

cadburyegg · 10/07/2021 20:30

You are very slim, I’m 5’2 and when I was 8 stone I was a size 8.

MarianneUnfaithful · 10/07/2021 20:31

So what if it wasn’t slim?

Is she getting to you OP?

She has no business saying such a thing to any woman.
She had no business saying such a thing to a woman who has a young child
She has no business saying such a thing to someone obviously slim / a healthy weight.

etopp · 10/07/2021 20:34

Each to their own. I'm 5 foot 2 and would think 8 stone was at the heavy end of normal. But I'd also think a MIL should piss off and keep her opinions to herself.

etopp · 10/07/2021 20:35

I don't think dress size is relevant to anything, btw. At my lightest, I was 5 stone 12. My frame still meant I was a size 8-10 on the bottom. Dress size means nothing. What matters is that you feel ok with the way you are. Nobody else's view matters.

Wide · 10/07/2021 20:36

@etopp exactly I agree!! I hate it when people assume a certain weight is soo small and you have an unhealthy eating disorder if you think not. As I said above I am 5ft 2 and around 8 stone and I have bad saddle bags and I look chubbier, I think alot of people have a very different view of what is slim as people have low standards

etopp · 10/07/2021 20:37

@NutterflyEffect

Not true. I am verging on evidently overweight at this weight. We are all different!
