At 5’4 mother in law seems to think not. She told me I could do with loosing half a stone. I was about half a stone lighter before I had dd.

I’m 5”3 and I was once told by my GP 7-9 stone was healthy for my height.

Ozanj · 10/07/2021 14:25

Depends on many things - height, muscle tone, weight, how active you are. I am mixed race & partly from an Asian background and know Asian women who have 34 inch waists at 8 stones. The ones who can’t exercise have been asked to lose fat through losing weight, but not huge amounts.

sylbunny · 10/07/2021 14:27

8 stone at that height is basically itty bitty teeny tiny I would have thought?

XjustagirlX · 10/07/2021 14:29

Im 5ft 4 and I have been 8 st for a few years. It depends on your body shape and muscle/fat %. I look petite but not underweight or ill. You certainly won’t need to lose weight.

Grapewrath · 10/07/2021 14:30

Mil has issues
I’m 8st 4 at 5ft 4 and a size 8

Mumoftwoinprimary · 10/07/2021 14:40

A healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 25. Your current BMI is 19.2. At 7.5 stone you will be down to 18 and so underweight.

PurpleMustang · 10/07/2021 14:44

Just tell her to fuck off. Your half a stone different to before baby, that is nothing. If she won't shut up, either start commenting to her as she does you. Or lie and say you have lost it. And don't discuss it ever again with her. You have learnt there are certain subjects to not mention in front of her and is now none of her business if she can't be polite or supportive

The obvious answer to MIL is " How much do you weigh,. MIL? Oh, is that all? You look much heavier"
Whyyouso · 10/07/2021 15:24

She’s very slim not sure exactly how much she weighs but would imagine she’s smaller then me.

irregularegular · 10/07/2021 15:32

I'm 5 ft 4. I was 8 stone for years and I was generally considered to be very slim. I'm a bit more now, but still definitely not overweight (though I prefer 8 stone on purely aesthetic grounds). At my very lightest I encroached on 7.5 stone and that was underweight. I was very stressed and non sleeping at the time.

She's definitely talking nonsense. And worse than that, very rude!!

Tavelo · 10/07/2021 15:34

To me 8 stone at 5 ft 4 is very slim. I'm 5 ft 3 and 10 stone, i've just dropped 1 stone (through illness) and actually want to gain it back. I know that isn't the norm but I feel happier and sexier at 11. The older generation have serious issues with what they consider the perfect size, basically no visible body fat. Some people look great skinny but some atually look rather ill it just depends on the person and losing weight is by no means always a good thing.

Kitkat151 · 10/07/2021 15:37

I’m 5ft 6 and 8st 5lb....I’m a size 8 and look a bit scrawny if I’m honest🙄

gillysSong · 10/07/2021 15:40

She's mental. I'm slim at 4ft 11 and 8 stone.
I could be 13lb heavier and still be within a healthy weight for height.

whatthejiggeries · 10/07/2021 15:44

I'm the same as you and I don't think I am slim - I have plenty of squidgy bits. 8st 13 can't possibly be the lowest ideal weight for my height I would be a size 12-14 at that. So in answer to your question I think it's average it really slim but not overweight

Essentialironingwater · 10/07/2021 16:02

I'm quite light for my shape (I suppose the opposite of 'big boned!?') so at 5'5 and 8 stone 7 I look average - i.e. not "very slim". It depends on the person. Even if you were 20 stone though your MIL has no right to comment, how rude!!

Nocutenamesleft · 10/07/2021 16:05

I’m the same. 5’4. 8 stone. Everyone tells me I’m too skinny.

It isn’t fat or large by any stretch of the imagination. I actually would like to be nearer 63kgs. I was more curvier then. I’m just straight up and down this end.

Redjumper1 · 10/07/2021 16:06

My DM is very slim and thinks people who are slim are overweight. It's their preference. When my DM tells me to lose weight I just tell her I'm a normal weight and in happy enough. Basically mind your business.

Nocutenamesleft · 10/07/2021 16:10

I was that height and 6 and a half stone. I was a size 4. Till I was 29 ish

I hated my weight. I ate like you wouldn’t believe to try to gain. Never anorexic. But people were so mean. I looked skin and bones. Hated it.

I just have an amazing metabolism. Which people think is great. But if you ever need to sedate me. Watch out. I take huge amounts to knock me out. Same for pain killers. It makes for a huge pain to have it.

We should normalise bodies. Any bodies. Anyone who is large. Slim. Small tall. Short.

Why can’t we just be us?

TheMarzipanDildo · 10/07/2021 16:10

At 5’4- bloody hell, I know people carry weight differently, but I can’t imagine that being anything other than slim!

notacooldad · 10/07/2021 16:12

Why are you even taking this comment on board?

Jangle33 · 10/07/2021 16:15

What the hell has it got to do with your MIL and why does she think it’s ok to comment! And don’t tell her next time.

Chunkymenrock · 10/07/2021 16:15

Losing, not loosing. 8st is very light indeed.

Wiredforsound · 10/07/2021 16:16

Tell her to fuck off and stop being weird. It’s not her place to judge you. Her comment is nothing to do with your weight. It’s born out of a desire to make you feel bad about yourself.

StopCryingYourHeartOut · 10/07/2021 16:17

I'm the same height and weight as you OP and it's perfect for my frame.
So, no just ignore her.

maddening · 10/07/2021 16:18

Do tell what the MILs physique Is?
