To go all out for next year’s summer holiday! Anyone else with me? I’ve just booked…

7 nights
Sea view, suite, own pool, direct beach access
Absolute top end
British airways flights. At perfect times.
Private airport transfers

Spent 30% more than on previous summer holidays, and i have always gone fairly top end.
It’s pretty eye watering but strangely, not even a nano second of regret.

Are people doing the same? Two years of no abroad holiday (yes yes, UK holidays are lovely. Got a week booked by the coast at really looking forward to it! In the same way as abroad luxury holiday with guaranteed sun? No.).

Anyone else going a bit crazy with their summer holidays next year??

Yes. My delayed 40th birthday next Feb. Booked business class flights to Thailand and a hotel room with a private pool.
Also a high end all inclusive with the kids in summer.
I demand some luxury

Geamhradh · 08/07/2021 09:06

I've got enough flight vouchers to book with Elon bloody Musk and go to the Moon but yes, I'm going to be spending as much time as possible on holidays next year!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 08/07/2021 09:13

good for you.
we had an unusually £££ (for us) holiday booked for April 2020, and as soon as that country opens up its borders I'm rebooking, only I think this time I'm going to spend even more. We'll book a full fortnight instead of 10 days, and better accommodation.

Challengerice · 08/07/2021 09:17

I love this!!

To scared to book yet but.... I was toying with a spa type hotel for 2020 but booked bog standard all inclusive which got cancelled. If I do book in 2022 it's the spa hotel. We very rarely go abroad. But it's been five years now 😭

I spent last years holiday money on the house.

Nsky · 08/07/2021 09:23

If only I could afford too.
I always go to family, otherwise couldn’t afford to, luckily 2 of my 3 brothers Spain and Italy.
Planning on a big family get together in France ( where 1 brothers own my parents house ) for a relatively big 60th.
I’m just hoping to go to Spain this year and have sibling time, esp as I live alone

JaceLancs · 08/07/2021 09:31

I don’t normally spend huge amounts on holidays but last year spent the money saved on new garden furniture, bbq, pond, plants etc
This year I’ve bought jewellery!
If holidays are back to normal next year I plan to go for 2 weeks each time rather than my normal 1 week (my employer has allowed us to carry forward more holiday than usual so will be possible)

ShitPoetryClub · 08/07/2021 09:38

California. Now Trumps gone.

Tal45 · 08/07/2021 09:40

I'm scared to book next years yet, still hoping that this years will come off!
Where are you going?

My price for exact same holiday went up by £192. Since yesterday morning.

This is for July 2022

Prices are increasing as every day more vaccinated and less hospitalisations and “freedom” day so close

I’ve just booked a 5* adults only spa hotel in Malta next Easter and a cruise from Boston up to Nova Scotia next August, they were offering 30% discount plus drinks package/excursions etc. we’ll have a few days in Boston beforehand as we’ve never been.
Anywhere ‘popular’ like Orlando is insanely priced due to people having to reshuffle from last year and this year. There will be thousands of families not visiting Florida next year due to lack of availability/high prices and the shit show Disneyworld have created with their changes.
I’d like to say we’ve saved a fortune with no holidays since 2019 but we’ve spent on the garden instead plus a new garage and ‘luxury’ shed.

IncessantNameChanger · 08/07/2021 10:54

Oh cries, I guess I need to book soon then

Teaandbicciesplease · 08/07/2021 10:59

I can barely afford the 3 night camping trip we're going on next week, but am enjoying living vicariously through all of you! Make sure you order champagne on the flight Smile

FionnulaTheCooler · 08/07/2021 11:02

Thinking about Orlando next year, probably not until October though. We want to get back before DD starts getting charged adult prices and next year will be our last chance for that. I did say to DH I'd like to upgrade our flights if it's not too eye wateringly expensive since it's likely to be the last time we go at least for a few years.

This is sadly why our children are f#*ked. There is a climate emergency. In the not too distant future there will be: Food insecurity. More and more places becoming impossible to live in. Huge migration. Social instability. War over resources.

But as long as here and now we get our holidays abroad, drive our ‘nice cars’ and buy tons of stuff we don’t need...who cares about the s#%t storm our children will have to deal with.

But please do enjoy

Worldgonecrazy · 08/07/2021 11:11

Hoping to go later this year. Can’t afford next year, same holiday nearly double the price as we need to go in school holidays now. Our holidays are probably going to be bounce every two years, though we are luckier than many as we live in a tourist area so can still have a really nice holiday at home.

Hope everyone has a great time.

Thanks. I will enjoy Biscuit. I don't have children, so I beat you in the climate smugness stakes Grin
isseys4xmastinselcats · 08/07/2021 11:13

We were going to USA for a huge motorbike rally next year but looking at flight costs it is now out of our price range due to flight costs going up so we are going to do two city breaks instead Krakow and Vienna

BillyRaywasapreachersson · 08/07/2021 11:14

Want to, but am really not clear on what the situation is with kids, DD will be 16 next year and I'm loathe to book anything until I understand what the rules are...

polkadotpjs · 08/07/2021 11:18

Also enjoying vicariously as I accept I'm not in this position but enjoy reading about it. Also looking to book for next year. High end AI sounds good - maybe not achievable but who do you use? I'd like to look in case of any windfalls

Also don’t have kids so do I have your permission to have a holiday? Biscuit

Increasing the population by having children is going to impact the environment more than me spending two weeks in the sun

Cavalierqueen · 08/07/2021 11:21

Joyous response, really tickled me. Grin

I flew back from my third bubble holiday this year last night, lucky to live in a hub where Maldives and Zanzibar are only hours away. I don't really care about the climate stuff, it's just not that important to me. Travel is a massive privelige and we should take advantage of every opportunity to experience as much of the world as possible. And seeing as I have to pay more tax for my qsuite, I don't feel guilty. I also don't have loads of children or a knacked old banger car and am vegetarian and grow a huge amount of my food so I am already vastly morally superior to the eco warrior mums.

sailmeaway · 08/07/2021 11:27

Honestly, not even thought about it. And when we do I think it'll be based around seeing family we haven't seen in 2.5 yrs now rather than sea views...

DotDotDotDot · 08/07/2021 11:31

Oh yes, I'm vegetarian too, as well as not having any children. I forgot about that - does that win me even more climate-smugness points?

Next year I'm hoping to go to the Maldives. If I do, I'll be sure to give zero fucks about the climate, apart from worrying whether I have enough SPF 50 sunscreen.
