To go all out for next year’s summer holiday! Anyone else with me? I’ve just booked…

7 nights
Sea view, suite, own pool, direct beach access
Absolute top end
British airways flights. At perfect times.
Private airport transfers

Spent 30% more than on previous summer holidays, and i have always gone fairly top end.
It’s pretty eye watering but strangely, not even a nano second of regret.

Are people doing the same? Two years of no abroad holiday (yes yes, UK holidays are lovely. Got a week booked by the coast at really looking forward to it! In the same way as abroad luxury holiday with guaranteed sun? No.).

Anyone else going a bit crazy with their summer holidays next year??

Yes me, but I’ve also upgraded this years holiday too.. have not given up on the idea of travel for this year!

undertheduvet · 08/07/2021 17:16

Omg, crazy price for a 7-day beach holiday!

We paid £17,500 for a 7-week tour of S.America including 5-day Galapagos cruise with Cox & Kings (for 2, in 2015), honeymoon.

We’ve got little kids now so somewhat limited but next year would like to do the trans-siberian from Moscow to Vladivostok. Not booking yet though. First priority is to visit family in UK when we can.

This year we’re going to Zermatt (Switzerland, where we live) to see the Matterhorn 🏔

Get yourself a re quote for your interest because my friend had a five week one quoted for with c&k…. £29,000 for the pair. And that was out of season and cutting back on every extra Indeed - lowest price they’re offering for out of season and no extras on their website for 17 days is c £7kpp on a group tour!

We are going to an Ikos resort in Greece. Top quality. Then in 2023 hopefully a 2 week trip to French Polynesia! Eye watering prices but 2 years with no holidays means I've saved.

@Lostmarbles2021

This is sadly why our children are f#*ked. There is a climate emergency. In the not too distant future there will be: Food insecurity. More and more places becoming impossible to live in. Huge migration. Social instability. War over resources.

But as long as here and now we get our holidays abroad, drive our ‘nice cars’ and buy tons of stuff we don’t need...who cares about the s#%t storm our children will have to deal with.

But please do enjoy

I don't have children. I think that probably balances out the odd flight I take.
FloconDeNeige · 08/07/2021 20:30

Good job I went when I did!

Having worked all through and having had to carry over annual leave for two years now, I've just come back from my first UK holiday in 20 years and the weather was shite. You bet your self-righteous life I want - nay, need - to jet off for some proper sun and rest.

She does have a point though doesn’t she
It’s depressing but true
We consume and consume
And if we think COVID has been bad !

And I’m flying Monday
Because my ex chose to move back home and hasn’t seen his kids for a year

I don’t know Confused

How lovely but who are all these people booking such luxurious holidays and how do they afford it?? Is it credit?

Blossomtoes · 08/07/2021 20:49

People with high incomes. And two years holiday budget in the bank.

People who haven't had holidays since 2019? People who work fucking hard and get to spend their money where they want? People who put the holiday on their credit card? (So what?)

I know on MN you're supposed to be happy in a tent in Milton Keynes pissing in a bucket for a week and making that MN chicken last for all that time, but fuck that.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/07/2021 21:01

I am not on a high income. I earn minimum wage. Never buy anything on credit. I just have low outgoings!

Zenithbear · 08/07/2021 21:03

No high incomes here. Just lots of disposable income and savings, no mortgages or debt and holidays are a priority even more so with awful cabin fever lock down flashbacks.

MoChridhe · 08/07/2021 21:06

Disney world whatever the cost!

Not in my case

Combination of a well paid professional job
Plus a high level of child maintenance from ex husband
Plus making loads of savings for last two years
Means my two children and I will have a damn indulgent 2022!
I don’t have anything on credit, makes me anxious

Thank you! Yes, I wasn’t being facetious as I would genuinely love to do the same but just can’t seem to make it happen on the income of two professionals and we also are trying to avoid credit. Anyway, wasn’t having a pop at anyone and hope everyone who is lucky enough to have booked something has a great time.

vanessalightfoot · 08/07/2021 21:19

Can we have some links please? All these places sound amazing. What would you have to spend realistically to go high end? By which I mean no manky buffet, decent beds and separate bedrooms for kids, non plastic-y sun loungers and proper drinks out of glasses not shitty plastic cups for everything (bitter tui all inclusive experience speaking)

NeverForgetYourDreams · 08/07/2021 21:22

Yes we've got two booked (moved from 2020 to 2021 and now to 2022)

Plus it's the year I turn 50 so I feel an extra special holiday being added.

We've got two years worth of holiday savings to use !!

Next years holidays are both paid for by the refunds from 2020 ones :-)

BobMortimersPetOwl · 08/07/2021 21:27

No, in all honestly I've really enjoyed not dealing with the faff of airports, and I don't particularly like flying.

I'm looking at either doing a trip around the Hebrides or driving up to Scandinavia as we can take the dogs to either, and lockdown reinforced for us that we really love just all being together!

If I were booking a regular holiday I'd happily go all out tho!

Ikos resort in Greece that I am going to is high end. School holiday price for 7 nights has cost me £3200 for 2 of us. They have a few different resorts, all very highly rated on Trip Advisor. They are all inclusive but it's not buffet food, it's sit down meals in restaurants and they make any cocktail that you ask for even if it's not on the menu.
Daphnise · 08/07/2021 21:37

Does anyone on MN boast about their low end holiday proposals, or book standard accommodation?

And if you boast about top end accommodation while you are in it, would it not reduce the "top endedness" of said accommodation?

Down to "Common"!
