She was a style icon yet she’s in one of those frumpy waist belts that were only in fashion briefly. The face does nothing to represent how beautiful she was. It’s too harsh.

@JudgeJ it’s the unveiling of a statue commemorating his mother. William could’ve faked a laugh/smile and looked a bit more engaged and jovial rather than like he was at the dentist getting this teeth pulled. Acting that way just prolongs the whole feud. We’ve all had to grin and bear a relative or co worker we dislike. That’s life. You plaster on a fake smile and get on with it. You don’t stand there with a puss on your face making it obvious. And that’s in general not when the world is watching.

The hidden child will end up with ' issues' as you can't see its face properly.,
Will nobody think of the children ?

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2021 18:12

Mother Theresa did die the same week as Diane did, so maybe they had a kind of link there somewhere ?

Maybe he's, you know, feeling emotional? About commemorating his dead mother?

Just a thought.

SheldonesqueDoesNotBelongHere · 01/07/2021 18:16

I think a fake smile would have been obvious.

He was hurt. He looks as though he is still hurting.

I’m not sure he should push his very valid feelings aside. H might be able to go full beam but that makes me think he overegged his hurt pudding.

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2021 18:17

A beautiful garden though. So pretty

Yellowbird54321 · 01/07/2021 18:18

"Richard Madeley" and "smoking" have just finished me off Grin Grin Grin

ForeverAintEnough3 · 01/07/2021 18:18

@ThursdayWeld I wonder if their mother would’ve been happier to see her two sons try to get on at an event commemorating her rather than one ‘feeling emotional’ by ignoring his brother when his brother at least tries to communicate with him. For her sake he could’ve tried. Apparently Harry was only there 90 minutes in total. It wouldn’t have been too much to ask.

Perhaps their mother would have been utterly fed up with people speculating about how her sons should be feeling, how they ought to be behaving in public, deciding they know how long her sons have been communicating...

All a bit ironic, really.

ThursdayWeld · 01/07/2021 18:21

Still, you keep judging!

midsomermurderess · 01/07/2021 18:21

I find the 'suffer the little children to come unto me vibe' a bit unsettling.

Cheeseismymiddlename · 01/07/2021 18:23

A little top heavy for her real likeness . I suppose in many years to come her fashion icon status will remain and be well reported on so the focus is on her caring /vulnerable / charitable qualities. I don’t think she would have minded it, but I don’t think she would have minded a statue depicting her with her sons. Perhaps there is a Royal protocol forbidding statues of living Royals , therefore William and Harry could not feature ? Hmm

whynotwhatknot · 01/07/2021 18:23

i dont particularly like it nice thought but could be better

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 01/07/2021 18:24

The whole experience must have been very difficult for both 'boys'. I wouldn't blame either of them for looking disconsolate.

GlencoraP · 01/07/2021 18:24

The pictures I saw showed broth brothers smiling and chatting with the sculpted , I think it’s possible to see what you want to see .

ForeverAintEnough3 · 01/07/2021 18:24

@ThursdayWeld which is my whole point and it will continue now because of the way William acted. It could have been a nice smile at Harry bit of a shared joke, look at the lovely statue of their mother. Go their separate ways. Instead it’s prolonging the whole thing, keeping it the media, showing clearly they are not on good terms. It’s a pity.

I had a friend who was horrible to me and were no longer friends but when I see her out and about or with our mutual friends I smile and say hello, I don’t cause a scene. It’s not that hard.

I saw a video someone posted on the thread. It looks so awkward.

But I’m derailing now myself. Back to the statue!

Well do remember that you saw a very short edited clip when they were there 90mins. There was actually plenty of footage of them smiling but there you go , that doesn’t fit some peoples narrative does it .

Cam22 · 01/07/2021 18:38

The princes were fine and acted perfectly well - considering.

Yes.
the80sweregreat · 01/07/2021 18:41

The Mail wanted a punch up. Didn't happen

postitgirl · 01/07/2021 18:41

are they grandchildren? think its very unflattering to her. I dont think she would have like d it !!!!

stairway · 01/07/2021 18:44

There was never going to be punch up. Prince William will just be polite until Harry’s back on the plane.

GrimDamnFanjo · 01/07/2021 18:46

I initially didn't like it - and I didn't expect to as Dianas likeness was so difficult to capture in say a painting. But then I actually thought it was quite a powerful pose, almost warrior like

ShirleyDab · 01/07/2021 18:47

One of those emperor's new clothes kind of statues.
Best viewed from a distance of about 5 miles methinks.
The blouse looks like it was picked out of a laundry basket.
