She was a style icon yet she’s in one of those frumpy waist belts that were only in fashion briefly. The face does nothing to represent how beautiful she was. It’s too harsh.

@Theunamedcat

Its a statue not a photograph
Wow, such insight!
LittleBearPad · 01/07/2021 17:27

@Ponoka7

"She was stunningly beautiful in real life"

That's subjective. I think that she was slightly attractive, but had the best stylists and was tall.
I think it looks like her.
This is a official statement;
"Kensington Palace said the statue aims to reflect Diana’s “warmth, elegance and energy”, while the children represent the “universality and generational impact of the princess’s work”.
It added: “The portrait and style of dress was based on the final period of her life as she gained confidence in her role as an ambassador for humanitarian causes and aims to convey her character and compassion.”

The boys and her family worked together, they actually knew her, so I don't think anyone can say that they got it wrong.

There’s no energy to the statue. It’s too lumpen to be elegant.

i like that Harry tidily folded up the green sheet

Probably nabbing it to make a sunshade for his chickens Grin

Have you ever tried sculpting Coco Chanel dresses?

Nah, didn't think so!

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2021 17:28

Looks like a social worker !
I was expecting something wow. This isn't it.
Still , if it's what they wanted and they like it , then that's good.

BirdsandBeesmakinghay · 01/07/2021 17:31

@speakout

I dislike the whole theme of token waifs/black children. A little too mother theresa for me. Plus she looks more like a young George Michael.
Yes! She does!
speakout · 01/07/2021 17:32

Thanks for posting the video- the animosity between the brothers was palpable.
I would have thought some symbolic gesture- some closeness would have given a PR boost.

seensome · 01/07/2021 17:33

I just thought it was a shame William and Harry were standing so far apart, with William not looking very open to engage with Harry, bit awkward.

Proudboomer · 01/07/2021 17:33

I don’t think in inclusion of a black child is an olive branch. The statue was commissioned in January 2017 so before meghan and before everything had to have a woke agenda.

I was just thinking that!

Pretty awful really

ForeverAintEnough3 · 01/07/2021 17:35

@VerticalHorizon who said anything about a coco Chanel dress? I’d you look at pictures of her casually she’s generally in a nice pair of jeans and a jumper or blouse.

Statues rarely turn out well and this is no exception.

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2021 17:36

I doubt they have patched it up : H will go back home and nothing will resolved now.

Too much water under the bridge.

NoviceGardenLady · 01/07/2021 17:38

Looks like an 80s male footballer in terrible drag quietly abducting two random children

SheldonesqueDoesNotBelongHere · 01/07/2021 17:39

Snap 80s

The very opposite to ‘least said soonest mended’ has come into play.

The only thing that might heal things is time. And I’m not sure there would ever be enough time for anything other than an uneasy truce.

BirdsandBeesmakinghay · 01/07/2021 17:39

I thought the body language was interesting. Harry for once looking quite relaxed and open. No scowling and dagger looks. William looking very tense and like he would rather be anywhere else on Earth. They did not have any rapport which is very sad.

I think Harry only stayed 90 minutes for the whole shebang. Arrived 15 minutes before the unveiling, folded the green bedsheet and left again. He is probably choosing megs duty free perfume at Heathrow by now.
the80sweregreat · 01/07/2021 17:43

People fall out , it's sad , but it is what it is.
The daily Mail and that friend of Meghan's ( scoobie doo someone) keep up the feud and no doubt once H goes back there will be more ' she said, he said ' in order to keep it all going again. You know they don't like Meghan at all so it'll be all her fault that the statue isn't a roaring success or whatever .
On it goes

Roselilly36 · 01/07/2021 17:44

So disappointed, who could guess it was Princess Diana? Looks nothing like her.

the80sweregreat · 01/07/2021 17:45

' look Meghan , a new ground sheet for the chicks and some perfume'
' great '

DysonSphere · 01/07/2021 17:45

@BakedBiscuit

I love that they made the statue ethnically diverse! Really moving forward in the right direction, that would not have happened without Megan.
Hmm

It’s a pity to see things so frosty between them. At least Harry was smiling at him. William could’ve tried a bit even just in public given the occasion. Even if he had faked friendship between them it would’ve been nice and meant the media speculation would die down. It seemed like he was a total stranger to William.
