What would you think if a date called you cute and adorable?

notthenever · 10/06/2021 14:26

And you were 50?

Had a first date and he messaged me later to say this. Must admit my first thought was ' Jeez, I'm 50 and your equal. Stop describing me like I am five years old or a puppy. Don't patronise me, man.'
'

But then I thought, 'Jeez, he's just trying to tell you he likes you. Lighten up'

So how would you react?

YABU - 'Jeez, he's just trying to tell you he likes you. Lighten up'
YANBU - Jeez, You're 50 and his equal, not five or a puppy. He'll patronise you.'.

(ps this is lighthearted!)

Though I am genuinely interested in people's thoughts!

I’d think… “ew….cheesy as fuck”.
I wouldn’t let it determine my whole view of him, but it would make me cringe.

Hopefully it’s just him trying too hard and he’s not actually that sickly with sentiments.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 10/06/2021 14:28

I’d assume there was a bunny next to me and he was addressing the bun.

VodkaSlimline · 10/06/2021 14:29

I think kittens are cute and adorable but I've never wanted to have sex with one.

That made me laugh!

That brought a little bit of sick into my mouth..

Has he met me? Would be my first thought, because...neither.

katy1213 · 10/06/2021 14:33

I'd assume the NHS had run out of white sticks.

I must admit I did think that. I had quite a rant about my favourite topic. I'm have pretty strong opinions. I've never seen myself as cute or adorable!

I would think he was talking about a Teddy bear or a puppy or even a cute toddler , it does not bode well .

Harrykanesrightsock · 10/06/2021 14:43

Oh god. I bet he’s a ickle wickle baby talker and thanks you in a cute voice after sex

EBearhug · 10/06/2021 14:45

I would try to be fair and think he's just saying he likes me, but it would depend on how much else was on both the pro and con sides. I can live with adorable more easily than cute, and it's always possible I'd just burst out with, "Cute? Me? Are you sure?" or something equal disbelieving.

I’d think it was a line he had found successful in the past that couldn’t have been inspired by me.

Tell me I’m funny. Clever. Tbat my opinions are interesting. Say I have a lovely smile or sexy eyes.

Cute and adorable? No no no. At age 15 perhaps.

Yes, its made me yearn for the guy I had a date with and who messaged me afterwards to tell me I was ' Beautiful, engaging and intelligent'. Proper grown up adjectives! Sadly practicalities meant it didn't work out with him.

That they were very perceptive

grapewine · 10/06/2021 15:00

I wouldn't date him again. I assume you had a conversation? Is he one of the men who finds women's opinions "cute and adorable" but of little consequence? I'd wonder about that.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/06/2021 15:04

I had quite a rant about my favourite topic.

Being called cute after a rant would piss me right off. I would not be the woman for him.

FolornLawn · 10/06/2021 15:07

I wouldn’t be able to think as I’d be distracted by the booming clang of my vadge slamming shut.

EmeraldShamrock · 10/06/2021 15:09

I think it's patronising after the age of 9.

updownroundandround · 10/06/2021 15:13

It would be as offensive to me as saying ''I think you're good enough for me to date, but you'll never be my equal''

A 3yr old is 'cute' and 'adorable', a 50yr old woman could 'attractive' , 'intersesting' ,'intelligent' and 'fun' Hmm

His 1950's misoginy is showing IMO.

Yes if this came in response to you stating strong opinions on a specific matter…then I would find it annoying and seriously question seeing him again.

If it were a generally comment I’d let him get away with being sickly once

Yes we did. I did most of the talking, he warned me before hand that he would probably be quite quiet as he is a bit shy at first. He did talk, but I don't feel I really got to know him. What he did say he seemed nice enough . At least it made a change from guys who just talk about themselves.

Is he one of the men who finds women's opinions "cute and adorable" but of little consequence? That is a possibility. I did once dump a guy after he was really offensive to me and I got angry and then he then told me I was sexy when I was angry. Hmm I told him that was really sexist and offensive and he looked completely taken aback and said 'Is it?!' I think he thought he was giving me a compliment. Confused

No it wasn't after the rant. I agree, if he had said it after the rant he would off gone the way of the ' you are so sexy when you are angry' guy.

Maybe he thinks it’s what you want to hear? I would find it bizarre, not least because as well as being an adult woman I am tall and Amazonian and could wrestle 50% of men to the ground.
