Leftovers.

I recently attended an outdoor wedding with around 40 guests (it was allowed, everything was in order!).Everyone brought food which made a fantastic buffet.Everyone except a family of two adults and three teenage children. When the last person in line for food sat down, there was still loads left-people had brought four or five items each and everyone had just taken a small portion to start with.intending to go back for more. The desserts hadn't even been touched. As one, this family, whose plates were already overflowing, advanced on the buffet with three or four empty Tupperware containers each and just about cleared it.They just hoovered everything up in a couple of minutes.even taking some of the bowls and plates people had brought their contributions in.They took the three full bottles of wine from their table and grabbed a couple of prosecco bottles from the buffet too.Carrying their own huge plates, they then left!People were dumbfounded and the poor bride was in tears. The family were the groom's uncle-when approached the next day, uncle said he thought they were leftovers which he didn't want to go to waste. He was furloughed and short of cash so that would feed the family for a few days. That was also the reason why he hadn't brought a present.People had bent over backwards to hep them.Someone (who didn't even know them) had driven 200 miles to collect them, from their home, put them up overnight then driven them to the venue. The three women in the family had borrowed clothes and makeup from the host family (which still haven't been returned),had moaned about the quality of the mattress in the adult's bed and lack of cooked breakfast then tried to persuade the hairdresser booked by the host family to do their hair as well for free (fortunately that didn't work.)All in all they were a nightmare. Now there's another outdoor wedding coming up and they haven't been invited, despite it being the niece of the uncle from Hell. He's creating trouble already, firing off emails to the bride every day about how badly he's been treated, how he only took a few scraps which would have been thrown out in order to feed his starving family (none of them looked as if they were starving!).He's blackmailing the poor girl emotionally, saying she's responsible for dividing the family if they don't invite his tribe when non family guests will be attending..Yes,he's family but surely the poor girl has the right to choose her guests, especially when numbers are so limited?

Oh come on.

Why on earth would people just stare dumbfounded while that charade went on?

Sparklesocks · 06/06/2021 14:32

That sounds awful.
But also why did nobody stop them, or say people hadn’t finished going up for more helpings yet while it was happening?

musthavebeenlove · 06/06/2021 14:33

Is this even real?

I wouldn’t even invite them anymore to my dog’s birthday party.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 06/06/2021 14:36

The image of a family clearing untouched wedding desserts and drinks and promptly leaving while the rest of the guests gaze at them aghast, but remain unmoved, and the bride weeps silently into her chicken coleslaw is a good story, but not a very believable one.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 06/06/2021 14:37

And how did they go home with this buffet considering a complete stranger drove 200 miles to collect them

PurpleDaisies · 06/06/2021 14:38

Unbelievable behaviour.

It was a bit risky to be relying on leftovers though. Every buffet I’ve been to has been picked clean.

Pebbledashery · 06/06/2021 14:39

I've got visions of chicken man from Friday night dinner being the uncle 😂

Did the person who picked them up not notice them bringing 15-20 Tupperware boxes along?

No-one noticed them bringing the same boxes to the wedding?

Where did they “just go” to, given that someone had made a 200 mile round trip to collect them?

Interesting that they had the foresight to bring all the plastic tubs, no?

And no-one said, “steady on - people haven’t finished yet”? Really?

And the niece really gives a shit about not in inviting them?
I’d just say, “uncle, no-one minds the leftovers being used - I’m not inviting you because you just pissed off in the middle of the last wedding.”

How did they get the (100 miles?) back home?

I do not believe that this family did not already have form for this.

TheUnexpectedPickle · 06/06/2021 14:42

@Twistered I read your comment in a heavy Glaswegian accent in my head, apologies if that's not the case Grin

rirette · 06/06/2021 14:42

'Unbelievable behaviour' - yes, quite. Literally

daisyjgrey · 06/06/2021 14:42

I'm more bothered that you think that a comma or full stop negates you from using a space.

It's not an either/or situation.

PurpleDaisies · 06/06/2021 14:43

Anyone else hearing “Got your big plate Alan?” in their head?

Cocomarine · 06/06/2021 14:43

Which sap of a relative loaded the 15-20 boxes of food into the back of their car for the 200 mile return journey to take them back?

🤣🤣🤣

Pebbledashery · 06/06/2021 14:44
