I recently attended an outdoor wedding with around 40 guests (it was allowed,everything was in order!).Everyone brought food which made a fantastic buffet.Everyone except a family of two adults and three teenage children.When the last person in line for food sat down,there was still loads left-people had brought four or five items each and everyone had just taken a small portion to start with.intending to go back for more.The desserts hadn't even been touched.As one,this family,whose plates were already overflowing,advanced on the buffet with three or four empty Tupperware containers each and just about cleared it.They just hoovered everything up in a couple of minutes.even taking some of the bowls and plates people had brought their contributions in.They took the three full bottles of wine from their table and grabbed a couple of prosecco bottles from the buffet too.Carrying their own huge plates,they then left!People were dumbfounded and the poor bride was in tears.The family were the groom's uncle-when approached the next day,uncle said he thought they were leftovers which he didn't want to go to waste.He was furloughed and short of cash so that would feed the family for a few days.That was also the reason why he hadn't brought a present.People had bent over backwards to hep them.Someone (who didn't even know them) had driven 200 miles to collect them, from their home,put them up overnight then driven them to the venue.The three women in the family had borrowed clothes and makeup from the host family (which still haven't been returned),had moaned about the quality of the mattress in the adult's bed and lack of cooked breakfast then tried to persuade the hairdresser booked by the host family to do their hair as well for free (fortunately that didn't work.)All in all they were a nightmare.Now there's another outdoor wedding coming up and they haven't been invited,despite it being the niece of the uncle from Hell.He's creating trouble already,firing off emails to the bride every day about how badly he's been treated,how he only took a few scraps which would have been thrown out in order to feed his starving family (none of them looked as if they were starving!).He's blackmailing the poor girl emotionally,saying she's responsible for dividing the family if they don't invite his tribe when non family guests will be attending..Yes,he's family but surely the poor girl has the right to choose her guests,especially when numbers are so limited?

@vodkaredbullgirl

I'm surprised they had enough lids for their tupperware.
No one ever does. It's a rule.

@SmidgenofaPigeon

The image of a family clearing untouched wedding desserts and drinks and promptly leaving while the rest of the guests gaze at them aghast, but remain unmoved, and the bride weeps silently into her chicken coleslaw is a good story, but not a very believable one.

They loaded up their plates, took 3 bottles of wine and a bottle of prosecco and left? And the bride say there in tears? Did they eat from their plates whilst walking out and swigging from the bottles of wine and prosecco? Honestly brilliant 😂😂😂.

Ahhh fictitious weddings for fictitious families are tricky.

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2021 15:30

@Rose789

Ahhh fictitious weddings for fictitious families are tricky.
Especially when 7 months pregnant with triplets.
AlternativePerspective · 06/06/2021 15:31

I’m just here for the deletion message.

As an aside, years ago we had a bbq where we roasted a sheep on a spit, (I grew up abroad,) and someone took all the alcohol home with them when they left. Difference being that the alcohol was in the kitchen so nobody noticed until someone went to get a drink and it had all gone. Shockn

Ellie56 · 06/06/2021 15:31

Yeah right. Hmm

Pebbledashery · 06/06/2021 15:32

I don't think mumsnet hq should take down this thread after booting the user out.. It's hilarious 🤣

OrchestraOfWankery · 06/06/2021 15:37

He's in the episode of Jacqui's not so surprise birthday.
OrchestraOfWankery · 06/06/2021 15:43

Ah thanks Pebbledashery. Must be an episode I missed!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/06/2021 16:02

When my DP was made redundant last year my greatest regret was that weddings weren’t allowed, otherwise we would definitely have done this. He’s working again now, but we have the Tupperware at the ready anyway.

cabingirl · 06/06/2021 16:06

You'd miss out on the cake though if you left immediately with your Tuppeware - better to bring along a small cooler or cold box - stash it under your table and keep filling it up throughout the night.

Newkitchen123 · 06/06/2021 16:15

Perhaps they fed the troll with all the food

burritofan · 06/06/2021 16:17

massiveportion · 06/06/2021 16:17

Aye right.

Iniyat · 06/06/2021 16:24

I can’t believe your triplets are 5 already!

stuckinarutatwork · 06/06/2021 16:25

Recently as in the last 15 months? 40 people and it was legit? And there was a self-serve germ fest buffet?
Really OP?

GertietheGherkin · 06/06/2021 16:25

@Pebbledashery

I'm imagining lots of these...
😂😂😂😂
partyatthepalace · 06/06/2021 16:33

Didn’t happen

WorraLiberty · 06/06/2021 16:37

@SmidgenofaPigeon

Oh come on.

Why on earth would people just stare dumbfounded while that charade went on?

Exactly my thoughts

And the bride in tears...

ChocolateCakeYum · 06/06/2021 16:38

This happened at my wedding pretty much. My mil and sil hoovered everything up and stole 90% of my cake (I had one sliver). Weirdly my mum also had it happen at her wedding too, her in-laws took most of the food before anyone had even had a chance to have even one serving. Weddings bring out the worst in people unfortunately.

CandyLeBonBon · 06/06/2021 16:38

It brings to mind a mine in Ed Sheeran's song 'shape of you':

"You and me are thrifty, so go all you can eat
Fill up your bag and I fill up a plate"

CandyLeBonBon · 06/06/2021 16:39

@ghostyslovesheets
