Leftovers.

I recently attended an outdoor wedding with around 40 guests (it was allowed,everything was in order!).Everyone brought food which made a fantastic buffet.Everyone except a family of two adults and three teenage children.When the last person in line for food sat down,there was still loads left-people had brought four or five items each and everyone had just taken a small portion to start with.intending to go back for more.The desserts hadn't even been touched.As one,this family,whose plates were already overflowing,advanced on the buffet with three or four empty Tupperware containers each and just about cleared it.They just hoovered everything up in a couple of minutes.even taking some of the bowls and plates people had brought their contributions in.They took the three full bottles of wine from their table and grabbed a couple of prosecco bottles from the buffet too.Carrying their own huge plates,they then left!People were dumbfounded and the poor bride was in tears.The family were the groom's uncle-when approached the next day,uncle said he thought they were leftovers which he didn't want to go to waste.He was furloughed and short of cash so that would feed the family for a few days.That was also the reason why he hadn't brought a present.People had bent over backwards to hep them.Someone (who didn't even know them) had driven 200 miles to collect them, from their home,put them up overnight then driven them to the venue.The three women in the family had borrowed clothes and makeup from the host family (which still haven't been returned),had moaned about the quality of the mattress in the adult's bed and lack of cooked breakfast then tried to persuade the hairdresser booked by the host family to do their hair as well for free (fortunately that didn't work.)All in all they were a nightmare.Now there's another outdoor wedding coming up and they haven't been invited,despite it being the niece of the uncle from Hell.He's creating trouble already,firing off emails to the bride every day about how badly he's been treated,how he only took a few scraps which would have been thrown out in order to feed his starving family (none of them looked as if they were starving!).He's blackmailing the poor girl emotionally,saying she's responsible for dividing the family if they don't invite his tribe when non family guests will be attending..Yes,he's family but surely the poor girl has the right to choose her guests,especially when numbers are so limited?

Reminds me of a wedding my mum and dad went to in the eighties. The reception was in a marquee in the garden of the bride's family home. There were caterers but it was self serve. As expected the bridal party went first but my DM & Df were near the end and there was practically no food left as people were very generous in helping themselves. Obviously the caterers didn't do any policing or portion control of the food. My DM still talks about it today.

And here I thought this would be a debate thread about whether one should keep leftovers for the next day. How disappointing.

mrsbyers · 06/06/2021 14:55

Why are you getting involved ?

MintyMabel · 06/06/2021 14:55

@vodkaredbullgirl, pay attention, there were no biscuits left.

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/06/2021 14:56

oh fuck they nicked them all

ApolloandDaphne · 06/06/2021 14:58

If they left abruptly how did they get themselves and their Tupperware haul back the 200 miles home?

Diggingaholeformyself · 06/06/2021 15:00

I want to be like the other guests, I have zero restraint at a buffet and pile my plate a foot high Grin

Wrotten · 06/06/2021 15:00

I really wanted this to be about who gets the leftovers in your house.

In mine, it's usually me. I love leftovers.

JorisBonson · 06/06/2021 15:00

Did ye aye.

BlueDucky · 06/06/2021 15:01

I was hoping for a "this leftover chicken has been sat on the side for 5 days can I eat it" type thread
VettiyaIruken · 06/06/2021 15:05

Who took them home?

AtoZed · 06/06/2021 15:05

Someone must be quite bored today.

Pebbledashery · 06/06/2021 15:05

Also why did not one single member of the 40 guests at the wedding not say a single word to said family?

Wrotten · 06/06/2021 15:06

@Pebbledashery

Also why did not one single member of the 40 guests at the wedding not say a single word to said family?
Because they don't exist.

So many questions...

FastFood · 06/06/2021 15:11

Is it a reunion episode of Benidorm?

snotaproblem · 06/06/2021 15:12

I made a cauliflower cheese AND macaroni cheese so my dds could have the macaroni they asked for, however between them they ate ALL the cauliflower cheese and there was none left for me! I'm not keen on macaroni😪

GertietheGherkin · 06/06/2021 15:12

They did well to carry numerous Tupperware containers, piled high plates, plus bottles of wine and Presseco 100 miles 👍

Bloodypunkrockers · 06/06/2021 15:14

@Pebbledashery

I've got visions of chicken man from Friday night dinner being the uncle 😂

MadeOfStarStuff · 06/06/2021 15:15

I expect they flew home on their magic carpet with all their Tupperware containers did they? Was the magic carpet stolen as well?

Bloodypunkrockers · 06/06/2021 15:16

@Sparklingbrook

So many questions...
And so little time Grin
vodkaredbullgirl · 06/06/2021 15:17

I'm surprised they had enough lids for their tupperware.

MintyMabel · 06/06/2021 15:17

No, they flagged down a kindly passer by who gave the family their house and put their kids through college.

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2021 15:18

OP is expecting triplets in August stop being so mean everyone.

Pebbledashery · 06/06/2021 15:18
