To enjoy cheap chocolate?

Just had a Cadbury Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut chocolate bar 🍫- it was delicious!
I actually much prefer this cheap type of chocolate from the supermarket to ‘posh’ chocolate like Godiva, Leonidas etc.

AIBU for preferring the cheap chocolate and does it mean I have a horrible and cheap taste in chocolate?

There is a huge range between Cadbury and Leonidas.

I hate cheap chocolate like Cadbury as it just taste oily and not like chocolate at all anymore. I innocently ate some chocolate buttons two years ago and nearly gagged on them. Not sure what Cadbury did but I decline it since then.

I buy normally "single origin" bars from Sainsbury, Lidl, M&S or Waitrose, it's around £2/bar and I enjoy the taste as it taste like chocolate and not a oily sugary something.

I eat things like Twix or Kinder Riegel but I don't call them chocolate.

I love Leonidas and similar brands but for me they are absolute treats.

YABU for calling Cadbury's chocolate Grin

TinySongstress · 06/06/2021 12:25

I always loved Cadbury's but won't buy it anymore. It's changed beyond recognition, it's just 'soft brown' now, not even chocolatey! (And I'm no connoisseur)

I do LOVE that cheap burger van ketchup you get at fairs and car boot sales though. Soooo vinegary. 🥰

Yabu for calling Cadbury’s cheap

We prefer 30p per bar Lidl’s own

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 06/06/2021 12:27

Totally agree with you. My husband would always get me Godiva’s or Hotel Chocolat for special occasions. I’ve had to tactically tell him, I’d much prefer Cadbury’s, Galaxy or Aero!

DD asks DH to buy her the cooking/cheapest chocolate from Lidl/Aldi. He bought her moser Roth once and she was not happy 😆

Bythemillpond · 06/06/2021 12:30

Nothing wrong with Lidl’s own😃

ApolloandDaphne · 06/06/2021 12:30

I love Aldi Titan bars which are fake Mars bars. They are my current favourite chocolate!

Another dairy milk fan here, straight out of the fridge….. yum!

cupsofcoffee · 06/06/2021 12:37

No it doesn't Grin it's an oily, tasteless mess. It USED to be amazing, though.

Just as I feared, I have a horrible taste in chocolate then 😅 I even licked off the inside of the wrapper after eating it (to my defense, I was alone in the bedroom eating it and watching Netflix, definitely wouldn’t be doing this in public).

Cadbury’s is nice. Eat the chocolate you enjoy!

willithappen · 06/06/2021 12:49

When on earth did Cadbury's become cheap chocolate? I was thinking you meant like Asda smart price chocolate or something 😅

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 06/06/2021 12:51

Leonidas is mass produced factory chocolate, not that different from Cadbury’s tbh

Leonidas used to exclusive and good snd made in small batches. The quality has been steadily going downhill imo

There’s not much in it

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 06/06/2021 12:51

Tony’s is amazing too!

It’s one of the cheapest chocolate bars that I can buy here actually. My favorite is Côte d’Or but it’s about £5 a bar. Cadbury is about £2. We live outside the UK and I have to go to a special ‘foreign brands’ supermarket. I wish we had Aldi here.

I prefer Tescos own whole nut to Cadburys.

StopPokingTheRoyalTitDear · 06/06/2021 12:58

I love Aldi dairy fine (I think?) milk chocolate. And their chocolate buttons. I still eat Cadbury’s but given a choice would choose Aldi. Either way I prefer the cheaper stuff to the “posh” chocolate. Posh to me is hotel chocolat, green and blacks and anything in that price range.

HeronLanyon · 06/06/2021 12:59

Just as with food I like certain things from the whole range of chocolate (other than white).
My standard will always be good quality dark but sometimes only a toffee crisp or daim bar will do.
Wouldn’t worry at all about what your taste is.

Bloodyfuckit · 06/06/2021 12:59

I too love cadburies, over any of the more expensive brands. Currently working my way through a packet of twirls as we speak. Twirls are the best by far but caramel comes a pretty close 2nd.

Firstbornunicorn · 06/06/2021 12:59

I like Cadbury’s. Hate galaxy, though: too oily and doesn’t taste chocolatey to me. Green and Blacks is my current favourite. Thornton’s is disgusting: just tastes like lard and sugar.

We like what we like. I’m pretty sure there is such a thing as a chocolate snob and they’ll be all over this thread soon!
