To enjoy cheap chocolate?

Just had a Cadbury Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut chocolate bar 🍫- it was delicious!
I actually much prefer this cheap type of chocolate from the supermarket to ‘posh’ chocolate like Godiva, Leonidas etc.

AIBU for preferring the cheap chocolate and does it mean I have a horrible and cheap taste in chocolate?

YANBU. I love it. I mean, I also like expensive chocolate but sometimes nothing hits the spot like a good old fruit and nut. Tony's chocolate is lush but they get consumed in one evening here too!

Marmite27 · 06/06/2021 13:02

I like the Aldi Moser Roth chocolate best.

Particularly the sea salt one.

PawsQueen · 06/06/2021 13:03

I love the really cheap stuff. Like white chocolate mice and the chocolate ice cups Blush

wishihadagoodone · 06/06/2021 13:03

When you say cheap chocolate, I automatically think of those little coloured foil cups that were filled with chocolate.

God I loved those!!!!

Beautiful3 · 06/06/2021 13:03

I used to love Cadbury chocolate. Since they (the American company) reduced the time they mix it, the quality has reduced. I don't like the posh chocolates (green and blacks, Thorntons) either. I tend not to eat chocolate now.

Carrotinsaladiswrong · 06/06/2021 13:05

Cadbury’s is cheap? I thought you were going to say the 50p happy shoppers bars

musthavebeenlove · 06/06/2021 13:06

I also love After Eight chocolates and can easily eat a whole package of them at once (the reason why I almost never buy them).
Also not posh Grin

YABU.

The palm oil industry is one of the main environmental destroyers.

Cheap food is killing the planet.

cherrypiepie · 06/06/2021 13:06

Aldi salted pretzel chocolate - huge bar in a box! I'm they also do rum and raisin and fruit and nut.

Nice than Cadbury's imho.

Marmite27 · 06/06/2021 13:06

I’ve tried Tony’s Chocoloney, it was ok, but nothing special imo and at that price it needs to be special for me.

My most recent find chocolate wise are Knopper nut bars, they’re really nice. A bit like a snickers with a crunchy wafer.

jellybaby10 · 06/06/2021 13:07

I love Toblerone. Cadbury just doesn't taste the same now. The milk tray all taste the same too

You’re definitely right about that one! I think I eat a chocolate bar about once per month and try to live in an environmental conscious way in the meantime (we use public transport instead of car, dry our clothes outside, don’t eat meat every day, try to buy ecological cleaning products as much as possible etc.)

@wishihadagoodone you can still get them!

Hallyup6 · 06/06/2021 13:09

I'm with you, op. I love Cadbury's and genuinely can't taste the difference between how it was and the 'muck' they now supposedly produce. I guess my palate isn't refined enough! The only difference I can see from my childhood is that the bars have got smaller, but give me a cold Dairy Milk over any posh chocolate, anyday.

I LOVE Toblerone too! They unfortunately sell only very very tiny bars of those here that cost about £3 each so I buy the Cadbury instead

Cadbury's is awful these days. Coop own brand is nice though, way way cheaper too.

newtb · 06/06/2021 13:12

I used to like the green and black bar with dried cherries though normally prefer milk choc.

My favourite is Michel Cluizel milk choc with 64% cocoa but a box of thin discs costs more than 30€ plus post.

Don't like cote d'or and much prefer bog standard Nestlé milk dessert choc.

Also like the Moser Roth ones with orange bits and raspberry bits. The pistachio one's been ruined imo by caramelising the nuts.

Lots of the Lidl/aldi copy mars/twix etc use quite a lot of palm oil.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 06/06/2021 13:12

B&M for all your Toblerone needs.
They’re £1 for a normal-sized-chocolate-bar sized bar

partyatthepalace · 06/06/2021 13:13

Like like both Grin

But when it comes to Cadbury’s it’s whole nut for me (but not the cheaper version when they batter the nuts into bits)

WellTidy · 06/06/2021 13:15

Everything has its place. I love Cadbury’s, but don’t like cheaper chocolate like the kinnerton branded chocolate that you used to get when you bought an Easter egg in a mug. Haven’t seen them around for ages, maybe because the Dc are older now and I’m not looking for it. I also love after eights dipped in a cup of coffee. Could easily eat an entire box that way.

Can’t beat a fruit and nut, if that’s what you’re in the mood for, but my absolute favourite is Prestat chocolate, which also has its place. Can’t wolf that down as often as Cadbury’s though as I’d be bankrupt!

Stressybetty · 06/06/2021 13:15

Cadbury fruit and nut used to be my favourite but in the last year I've switched to Lindt. Cadbury doesn't taste the same as it did. Might just be me getting older!

We’re outside the UK unfortunately so we have to pay a lot for a tiny bit of toblerone. Life is hugely unfair sometimes Grin. I’m going to stock up on those huge packages they sell at the airport as soon as it’s possible to travel back home again.
