To ask if anyone ever gets a pickled egg?

I’ve had a chippy tea, there were pickled eggs in a jar and I’ve never had one, never seen anyone order one and never really heard of them spoken about.

Do people still get them? And what do they taste of? Grin

I love pickled eggs.

They taste of vinegar.

I can't wait to have them again when I have my gallbladder out.

Recommend them with a few pints of bitter.

AndWhatNext · 04/06/2021 23:45

I love them. Even make my own at home sometimes.

PortMerrionCentre · 04/06/2021 23:45

DH always has a pickled egg!

Totallyrandomname · 04/06/2021 23:46

I love them.
They taste exactly like boiled eggs that have been pickled 😂

FelicityBeedle · 04/06/2021 23:48

I get one occasionally, mainly vinegar with a particularly lovey yolk

addictedtotwopenceslots · 04/06/2021 23:48

I tried one once and wasn't a fan. I always get a few pickled onions at chippy though. Give it a try, then you'll know!

bethmc93 · 04/06/2021 23:48

I get a chippy every Friday so next week I might explore a pickled egg! I don’t know exactly why they’ve made me so curious, they’re just odd to look at swimming about in their jar

Imagine a hard boiled egg, dipped in vinegar. Like an egg version of a pickled onion. They are the food of the gods!

Hughbert · 04/06/2021 23:50

Love a pickled egg. It is as you expect it to be - a hardboiled egg that tastes of vinegar. The texture is somewhat rubbery. I am aware I'm not selling them well, but they really are good.

Warmduscher · 04/06/2021 23:51

I love a pickled egg. You can buy jars of them in the supermarket.

addictedtotwopenceslots · 04/06/2021 23:53

Yeah, go for it on Friday and enjoy...hopefully Grin

bethmc93 · 04/06/2021 23:53

Pickled onions are key to a chippy I have to admit

I don’t wanna commit to a full jar as I’m not the biggest egg lover but I don’t mind one now and again, plus if I hate them I don’t know who I’d palm them off on😂

I love a pickled egg. I used to buy one in the pub in my 20s.
Much to the disgust of my friends Grin

Fluffyandsilly · 04/06/2021 23:56

Treat yourself and try one! They taste like a boiled egg which has been picked Grin
I only know this because Deliveroo accidentally gave us someone else’s chippy order last year as well as our own, then told us to keep it when we flagged this. Their pickled egg was rather nice.

RatsolutelyFabulous · 05/06/2021 00:00

Oooftt, yessssss! I love a pickled egg, I’ve even made some of my own with garlic and chilli over the years.

Any chippy has them, I’m getting a few, they’re beaut but they also give me ridiculous heartburn. So worth it though😊

TattyDevine · 05/06/2021 00:00

Surely not. Surely they are the same ones that have been kicking round since 1977

bethmc93 · 05/06/2021 00:01

I can just imagine them floating around in their jars for 43 years tbh, they’d probably tell a good taleGrin

Not from the chippy but from the pub and then put into a packet of salt n vinegar crisps for an extra smack in the face of sourness.

AdaColeman · 05/06/2021 00:07

Pubs often used to have them in the olden days, a quick lunch with a bag of crisps! 🍺 🥚 🍺 🥚 🍺 🥚 🍺

violetbunny · 05/06/2021 00:08

I've never seen the "egg in a bag of crisp" thing before and I'm intrigued. How do you actually eat the egg? With your fingers??

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/06/2021 00:10

Mmm I'm quite tempted to try one after reading this.
I've always wondered what they're like

effoffpigeon · 05/06/2021 00:10

DH always does, he would live off them if he could. I don’t understand it

Ostara212 · 05/06/2021 00:10

My former flatmate got them. I had to leave the room and then air it thoroughly and use odour neutraliser.

She started to only get them when I was out 😂

bethmc93 · 05/06/2021 00:11

I’m curious to that too actually, where does the egg 🥚 fit in the meal, on its own or cut up with chips etc?

OP posts:
HeadlessGummyBears · 05/06/2021 00:12

Only once. I usually like pickled things, I guess eggs were an eggception Smile
