To ask if anyone ever gets a pickled egg?

I’ve had a chippy tea, there were pickled eggs in a jar and I’ve never had one, never seen anyone order one and never really heard of them spoken about.

Do people still get them? And what do they taste of?

Oh, yes. One of my go-to quick meals because we always have eggs in - very healthy as well as long as you make your own curry sauce rather than use a jar one

I love a pickled egg but I can't eat them anymore as I get really bad heartburn from anything pickled.

Yup love a pickled egg. Won’t have fish n chips without one. My friend who’s a chef tells me “that’s just wrong”

What area of the country do you live? I've never seen pickled eggs in a pub (though I know someone who has a choking phobia because they were in the pub when a friend choked and died in a pickled egg eating contest). I have never seen them in a fish shop, as we call a chippy. I've seen them in a supermarket though. I think I would also worry they had been there 50 years.

I'm near Glasgow, but they also had them in NE England, where I'm originally from, and they were easy to get in Bristol too when I was at Uni.

They have them in chippies where I am (W. Yorks).

I used to work in a chippy and we used to sell around a jar every week. People do buy them

I once made a mini set of pickles and chutneys for a secret santa - the jars were small so I only managed to pickle on egg but I used a mold to make it look like a fish.

Oh if anyone is making their own pickles, use a little raspberry vinegar in with the pickling vinegar.

I discovered this when I ran out of vinegar with my last pickle jar and only had raspberry left.

I also double spice the vinegar.

Pickled eggs used to get dropped in your pint of lager back in the day to reduce the fizz 🤣 then you had to fish them out and eat them 😍

Oh no, that's just too far for me.

DH loves a pickled egg but the idea makes me nauseous

I love them. As does my 11 year old.
Happy with a pickled onion too. Chippy tea definitely needs a vinegar based snack though!

I like hard boiled eggs, but those pickled eggs in a big jar look sinister to me ( not sure why) and make me think of a woman's fertility eggs ( I know I'm weird!)
I've never tried one though , so maybe I'm missing out ? I also don't like the look of pickled gurkins either. Vinegar makes me shudder.

Gherkins are amazing.
Mrs Elswood haimisha pickles are my absolute favourite, they are really strong and salty.

Ooh, I love a pickled egg. Tastes like a hard boiled egg that's pickled in vinegar 😉

I will always buy one from the fish and chip shop.
